Bound By The Moon: The Alpha's Forbidden Mate Chapter 1 The Intruder

Lyra POV

Taking each step deeper into an unfamiliar territory, I pushed through the tangled brush. The scent was wild, earthy, yet unmistakably different like a warning in the air, daring me to turn back. But it was too late. I'd wandered too far, misjudged the boundaries. The Moonshade Pack's land stretched out before me, and with it came the rumor of the one wolf no lone omega dared to cross.

Just as I stilled to catch my breath, a low growl rumbled from afar, its force prickling across my skin.

"You're trespassing." The voice was low, dark, and cut through the forest air like a knife.

I whirled around, my heart stalling as my gaze locked onto the form of a man; tall, broad, with eyes so intense they seemed to sear right into me. Alpha Kaelan. I felt his power and Authority before he stepped out to where I could see him.

"I didn't mean to," I stammered. "I... I lost track of the border."

"Convenient excuse." He didn't sound like he believed me for a second, his gaze unwavering. "And yet here you are, right in the heart of Moonshade territory."

The way he was scanning me made my breath shaky. "I only wanted to rest. I swear, I wasn't here to cause trouble."

"Trouble or not, you crossed into my land," he said, stepping closer, his expression as cold as stone. "Trespassers are not treated lightly, especially for a lone wolf."

His words made the hair on my neck stand. I was more alone than he could imagine and he sensed it. My instinct signaled for me to run from him as far as possible. But the moment I tried to step back, his eyes gleamed dangerously.

"What's your name?" he demanded, his voice as firm as his eyes.

"Lyra," I responded, the word stuck in my throat. His glare softened, just a split second, maybe he liked my name. But he quickly masked it, his expression hardened once more.

"Lyra," he repeated. Then he took another step forward, this time he was close enough that I felt the heat he emitted. "You're coming with me."

"I'm not your prisoner," I retorted, taking a step back, but he matched my pull backwards, closing the space between us in a single step.

"No? Then what are you?" His voice was laced with something I couldn't quite place, an edge of curiosity but mixed with the control of someone who was used to getting his way. "A lost little omega in my land?"

I wrapped my hand to fist, resisting the urge to fire back. "I never wanted to be here. I don't want anything to do with your pack."

"And yet, here you are." He tilted his head, studying me. "If you didn't want trouble, Lyra, you wouldn't have wandered so deep into my territory."

His eyes were so intense, but I felt a pull, a connection somehow between us that was more than just hostility. Maybe he felt it too. His eyes grew softer for a second before he shook his head, seemingly to ward off an idea.

"You're coming with me" he declared, leaving no room for debate. "I must know why my wolf's reacting to you."

I blinked, caught off guard. "Your wolf...?"

"Don't you feel it, too?" He challenged me to deny it as his eyes locked with mine. You don't feel this, pull between us?

The words caught in my throat as I opened my mouth. The truth was indisputable, even though I wanted to deny it and insist it was all in his head. I sensed a thread that seemed to have been woven between us.

I muttered, "It doesn't matter how I feel," attempting to match his gaze. "I'm not staying here".

He scoffed, his expression hardening. "Who says you have a choice?"

I took a step back, but he stretched out his hand and grabbed my wrist in a firm manner. "You're not running, Lyra. Not until I know why you're here."

I had to suppress a gasp as his touch sent a hot, electric spark through me. His hold became tighter when I attempted to wrench my hand away.

"Let go of me," I spoke in a harsh tone.

"Why should I?" His eyes narrowed as he leaned closer. "Don't you sense that bond? Well, I cannot ignore this.

"Bond?" I tried not to tremble as I spoke. "You're not even someone I know."

"That's the problem," he murmured, his voice was almost like a growl.

Dhould I yell at him to let go of me? but the way he stared at me made me dumbfounded, like he was seeing through my soul. I hated him already.

"Why are you doing this?" I demanded, my voice was inconsistent.

He seemed to consider my question, furrowing his eyes he responded . "Because my wolf doesn't want me to let you go. And I'm not the kind of man who ignores instincts."

I swallowed hard. "So what now? Are you just going to keep me here?"

"For now, yes." His tone left no room for debate. "Until I figure out what this is between us, you're not leaving."

I glared at him, defiance sparking within me. "I don't belong to you. I'm not some toy you can keep around just because you're curious."

He smirked, loosening his gaze a bit. "Who said anything about you being a toy, Lyra? This is something else entirely."

I stared at him, my heart pounding as his words settled over me. Despite everything, there was something in his gaze, a heat that was impossible to ignore. The Alpha was attracted to me, and that thought alone was enough to send a rush of panic through me.

"Whatever this is, it's not proper," I calmly said this time while trying to pull his grip on my hand again. "Let me go. I don't want this."

He held firm, his expression unyielding. "I don't care what you want. I'm only concerned about what this thing between us is. And until we figure that out, you're staying."

"I won't be a prisoner," I snapped, my voice rising.

"Then stop fighting me." He released my hand abruptly, and I stumbled back, caught off guard. "Stay willingly. Stay until we understand... this."

At this moment, he looked almost vulnerable. But then he straightened his face again.

"Stay, Lyra," speaking calmly, the words a low command. "I can't let you leave. Not yet."

My resolve fluttered, taking a step back and his eyes were not leaving me, though I wanted to run but a part of me wanted to stay.

"Fine," I said, giving in after much struggle. "But only until you figure out why you feel this... this bond. Then I'm gone."

The corner of his mouth tugged slightly with a smirk, and he leaned slightly forward. "We'll see how that goes."

Then he turned and started walking, giving me room to catch up with him. When we got to his pack, he kept me in a cabin and summoned the pack elder.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.
