Chapter 1
Téa Erine took a deep breath before entering the large meeting room. Voices were already echoing around her, creating an electric atmosphere, a mixture of intense discussions and a few bursts of laughter. She searched for a discreet place, hoping to go unnoticed. After all, she was only there to listen, observe and learn, not to show off.
But as she walked forward, she felt something. Or rather someone. The air around her seemed charged with a different, almost overwhelming energy. And looking up, she saw the source of this magnetic presence: Nicolas Piel, the son of the Alpha. Tall, with messy dark hair, a piercing gaze, and a crooked smile that seemed defiant and confident at the same time. Téa felt her heart racing in spite of herself, and a slight blush rising to her cheeks. She tried to look away, but it was already too late.
She continued walking, staring stubbornly at the ground, hoping no one had noticed her confusion. But as she passed by him, a voice, warm and tinged with mockery, was heard.
"So, we get lost along the way, Miss Erine? » Nicolas said, his tone full of confidence.
Téa stopped abruptly, trying to hide her embarrassment. She looked up and met his gaze, despite herself defying his smirk.
"Not at all, Piel," she replied sharply. She wished her voice was more confident, but she knew he had picked up on her hesitation, if only for a brief moment.
Nicolas raised an eyebrow, looking amused. He had that kind of look, the one that made you feel like he could read you, see past the facades you tried so hard to maintain. She didn't like it. She didn't like that this arrogant, self-confident wolf could have this effect on her.
" Oh really ? So why do you look so tense? » he asked, crossing his arms casually. "Am I scaring you? »
The question was asked with such amusement that Téa felt anger rising. Fear ? No, he didn't scare her. But he annoyed her, deeply. She tried to remain calm, not to give him this satisfaction.
"Look," she replied, boring her eyes into his, "I'm here to attend this meeting, not to play your games. »
She expected him to react, to say something even more annoying, but instead he burst out laughing, a warm, surprising, sincere laugh. This sound disconcerted her. She expected arrogance, not this. She looked away, disturbed, trying to understand why this laughter had such an effect on her.
"All right, all right," he said, raising his hands in surrender. "Don't worry, I don't bite... not right away anyway. » His smirk returned, and he observed her silently, as if gauging her reaction.
Téa gritted her teeth, refusing to be carried away by his provocations. She turned her head away, preferring to ignore this magnetic energy that seemed to emanate from him. But she couldn't help but glance, just for a brief moment. And what she saw disturbed her even more. Behind this arrogant facade, there was something else in his eyes. A glow... a mystery perhaps. She couldn't define it, but she knew it disturbed her.
The meeting began shortly after. Téa took her seat, focused on the discussions that were beginning around her. But, despite herself, she felt Nicolas's gaze on her from time to time. He didn't say anything, but she knew he was looking at her. This invisible but very real presence irritated her as much as it captivated her.
Throughout the discussions, she tried to concentrate, not to think about him, not to feel this strange tension that was tugging at her. But it was easier said than done. Every time she felt his gaze rest on her, she felt strangely vulnerable, as if her most secret thoughts could be divined with just a glance.
Then, after a moment, she felt movement next to her. Nicolas had come closer, obviously with the intention of speaking to him.
"So, what do you think about all this? » he asked in a whisper, a smile still hanging on his lips.
She turned her head towards him, a little disconcerted. He was speaking to her seriously now, without apparent mockery. This change in attitude surprised her, and she felt, for the first time, a little unsettled.
"I think you'd better concentrate on what's being said instead of distracting me," she finally replied, with a hint of defiance in her voice. She didn't want to show that he was bothering her.
Nicolas raised an eyebrow, amused. "Interesting... But I think it's you who's distracted, Téa. » He said her name in a way that made her heart shudder. She tried to regain her composure, refusing to let this dominating wolf read her.
"I'm not distracted," she replied coolly, crossing her arms. "I'm here for business reasons, and that's it. »
He seemed to think for a moment, then a mischievous smile stretched his lips. "Professional, huh? Interesting... I hope it stays as professional the next time we meet. »
He stood up, leaving her alone with her troubled thoughts. It wasn't the first time she encountered arrogant wolves, but Nicolas was different. His confidence wasn't just a facade; it seemed to be embedded deep within him, just like his magnetic charm, and she knew it made him dangerous, too dangerous. She sighed, wondering how she was going to manage this inexplicable attraction.
