After getting married, my husband and I planned a trip to Thailand. An unexpected event occurred. I was abducted by human traffickers who wanted to take my organs. In a moment of desperation, I called Gu Shaoqiu. The cold prompt tone rang three times, and it wasn't until the moment I lay on the operating table that I realized that all the love I had believed in was a facade. On the day I died, my husband was at the hospital accompanying his white moonlight. Inside her chest, there was my heart.

Chapter 1

After getting married, my husband and I planned a trip to Ostrines.

An unexpected event occurred.

I was kidnapped by human traffickers who intended to take away my organs.

In desperation, I called my husband, Shane Murphy.

The indifferent, automated message repeated three times, and it wasn't until I lay on the operating table that I realized all of his love was a falsehood.

On the day I died, my husband was at the hospital with his true love. In her chest, it was my heart.

Shane and I got married.

We flew to Ostrines for our honeymoon right after the wedding.

One evening, Shane went to take a shower, and his phone, left on the table, suddenly lit up.

A somewhat familiar name flashed across the screen.

I got curious and I leaned closer to take a look.

The screen lit up repeatedly as a series of messages flooded in. It was all from a person named Sweetie.

"I'm not feeling well, can you come see me?"

"Where are you? I miss you so much."

"Congratulations on your wedding. How's Ostrines?"

Just as I was about to continue reading the messages, Shane's voice startled me from behind, "What are you looking at?"

I calmly handed the phone to him and said, "Someone had sent you some messages."

Shane glanced at it, his expression darkening. He glared at me, "Don't touch my things without asking."

I replied coolly, "Don't you think you should explain first?"

Shane seemed suddenly provoked, "I explain? What am I explaining? It's just work stuff, you understand?"

My heart hurt. My family's company had recently gone bankrupt, and I truly couldn't help with Shane's work.

This made me feel inferiority, regretting that I was a burden to him. Yet, hearing Shane point it out so bluntly still made me uncomfortable.

Seeing my discomfort, Shane softened his voice, trying to soothe me, "I just don't want you to worry too much. You should focus on enjoying your life."

"Who is Sweetheart?" I asked, unwilling to let it go. I already had my suspicion but I was still afraid to believe it.

Shane's face changed dramatically, "Who gave you the right to snoop on my phone?! Why do you care who she is? She has nothing to do with you! Karlee Murphy, I'm telling you! Stop making a fuss! Don't interfere in my life! My phone have corporate secrets, and you can't just look at it whenever you want!"

With that, Shane stormed out, slamming the door behind him with a loud bang that echoed in the empty room.

My heart felt like it had been slammed too.

The cold wind blew in through the open window, and it was as if I had fallen into winter from a hot summer night.

The once perfect and harmonious honeymoon was now shattered.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
