Chapter 1 THE SCENT OF FREEDOM.

With each step, her adrenaline surged, propelling her towards the front door. She took a deep breath, opened it slowly, and stepped into the moonlit night. The cool breeze whispered promises of freedom, fueling Keisha's determination.

Keisha Pedro's life was a constant struggle under the oppressive rule of her stepfather, Arnold Pedro. Each day, she endured his cruel words and relentless abuse. She longed for freedom, a life where she could be herself without fear.

However, today she could no longer endure the torment and hellish life of living with her stepfather and his family. Keisha has taken the decision to leave not just the Pedro family's section of the pack house but the entire pack as a whole.

As the breeze outside the pack house hit her skin, she tightened her grip on the net bag on her back, which contained all she had in the house, and discreetly strutted towards the giant tall gate, which just happened to be the final obstacle she'd encounter before successfully escaping the 'Cage' that Arnold Pedro had bound her to.

"Did you hear the news about the upcoming slave auction at the premium ring spot?"

"Yeah! I overheard that this time it's going to be more thrilling than usual. I am just glad that I've saved enough to buy myself a slave, at least. Saves me the effort of finding a mate at the moment!"

"Wow, brother, You're so impressive. I wish I had thought about this earlier if I had made some savings too. Anyway, next time isn't bad either."

"Yeah! You'd still have your chance. Actually, the reason why I'm so ecstatic is because I heard Alpha Arnold might auction off his stepdaughter, Keisha."

"Wow, isn't it just rumors? You think so highly of yourself. Do you think you can win the bid?"

"I'm confident. I've always had my eyes set on her. I don't believe that any of those rich Alphas will be interested in that worthless thing that even her entire family despises.

They treat her worse than a maid. So, I guess, it'll just be a battle between the guards. A lot of them have bet on who will 'taste' her first. I'm also participating in this bet."

"Wow, that's so huge! I'll advise you not to be so confident; after all, Alpha Arnold Pedro is still her stepfather. Anyway, best of luck! Just don't forget this, brother. Once you win, I'll also love to get a taste of that 'thing'. The thought of how amazing it might feel is already making me 'hard', haha! I'm turned on."

"Hahaha! Brother, you are so naughty! Haha!"

Tears clouded her eyes, her teeth gritted, and her fist clenched as she heard their insulting words. Her breath hitched, knowing just how everyone present in the pack looked down on her and disrespected her. Keisha hadn't thought of the fact that it'd have gone so badly.

As the tears flowed through her eyes, she took a deep breath and adjusted her net bag. This was the more reason to fuel her determination to leave this pack forever and never come back.

Alpha Arnold Pedro, intended to auction me off? Keisha thought, disappointment evident on her face. She didn't know to what extent Arnold despised and hated her.

Gathering her thoughts, Keisha proceeded to continue her journey ahead; however, she unintentionally wound up stepping upon a pill of dried leaves, which she hadn't noticed at the moment.

The stepping sound against the leaf alerted the guards that were previously discussing it, and they both stood up at the fastest speed, pointing their flash lights at her.

"Who... Who is there? You better don't move. Stand still, stand right there; you've been caught!"

A slightly chubby redhead guard with a plump, round face and protruding stomach remarked as he made his way towards her. He just happened to be the same guard who had spoken about his interest in buying her if she eventually gets auctioned.

"Brother, did you find anything? Is there anyone there?"

A taller guy with similar facial structure and a slim version of the redhead guard but with blonde hair asked

"I... No, I can't find anything here. Just some footprints of a cat and a cat pup on the leaves. I think the cat came to drop some shit here. Tsk! Irk!"

"Oh, haha! That's not our problem; it's for Keisha Pedro to worry about."

The blonde-haired guy sneered, and the other guy clicked his tongue with a snarl.

"Yeah! True!"

With one hand placed against her mouth and the other on her chest, Keisha Pedro had her eyes wide open, panting in shock and relief. A glint of fear lingered in her eyes and heart. Only the goddess knows what might happen to her if she ever gets caught at this stage of her run.

Swallowing a thick lump of saliva, Keisha scurried through the darkness. The gate was no longer a priority; she had managed to escape these two guards at this intersection. How about the others positioned at the several intersections before the gate? She couldn't take such a big risk.

Following the path she'd mastered, thanks to always working non-stop in the pack house, Keisha soon found herself standing right beside the shortest fence that surrounded Drone Pack.

With an agile push, she sent the net bag out first and then took a deep breath before silently yet carefully climbing up the fence.

This would have been the simplest task that any wolf who had come of age could do.

Nonetheless, for her, it was more difficult than cleaning the messy horse stable where more than fifteen horses resided. No one but her fate made her the weakest of all wolves.

As Keisha balanced herself on the fence, her heart raced with fear. She knew that once she crossed over to the other side, she would be free from the clutches of the Pedro family and the oppressive pack.

With every ounce of strength she had, Keisha propelled herself forward, her fingers gripping the fence tightly. She felt the roughness of the metal against her palms as she pushed herself up and over the barrier.

Finally, she was on the other side. The moonlight illuminated her path as she landed on the ground, her knees slightly buckling under the impact. She took a moment to steady herself, her eyes scanning the surroundings.

The scent of freedom filled the air, and Keisha felt a surge of hope. She knew that her journey was far from over, but this was the first step towards a new life, a life where she could be herself without fear or abuse.

But she'd never have expected it to be her life's worst decision.

I died on a Tuesday. It wasn't a quick death. It was slow, cold, and meticulously planned by the man who called himself my father. I was twenty years old. He needed my kidney to save my sister. The spare part for the golden child. I remember the blinding lights of the operating theater, the sterile smell of betrayal, and the phantom pain of a surgeon's scalpel carving into my flesh while my screams echoed unheard. I remember looking through the observation glass and seeing him-my father, Giovanni Vitiello, the Don of the Chicago Outfit-watching me die with the same detached expression he used when signing a death warrant. He chose her. He always chose her. And then, I woke up. Not in heaven. Not in hell. But in my own bed, a year before my scheduled execution. My body was whole, unscarred. The timeline had reset, a glitch in the cruel matrix of my existence, giving me a second chance I never asked for. This time, when my father handed me a one-way ticket to London-an exile disguised as a severance package-I didn't cry. I didn't beg. My heart, once a bleeding wound, was now a block of ice. He didn't know he was talking to a ghost. He didn't know I had already lived through his ultimate betrayal. He also didn't know that six months ago, during the city's brutal territory wars, I was the one who saved his most valuable asset. In a secret safe house, I stitched up the wounds of a blinded soldier, a man whose life hung by a thread. He never saw my face. He only knew my voice, the scent of vanilla, and the steady touch of my hands. He called me Sette. Seven. For the seven stitches I put in his shoulder. That man was Dante Moretti. The Ruthless Capo. The man my sister, Isabella, is now set to marry. She stole my story. She claimed my actions, my voice, my scent. And Dante, the man who could spot a lie from a mile away, believed the beautiful deception because he wanted it to be true. He wanted the golden girl to be his savior, not the invisible sister who was only ever good for her spare parts. So I took the ticket. In my past life, I fought them, and they silenced me on an operating table. This time, I will let them have their perfect, gilded lie. I will go to London. I will disappear. I will let Seraphina Vitiello die on that plane. But I will not be a victim. This time, I will not be the lamb led to slaughter. This time, from the shadows of my exile, I will be the one holding the match. And I will wait, with the patience of the dead, to watch their entire world burn. Because a ghost has nothing to lose, and a queen of ashes has an empire to gain.

For seventeen years, I was the pride of the Carlisle family, the perfect daughter destined to inherit an empire. But that life ended the moment a DNA report slid across my father’s mahogany desk. The paper proved I was a stranger. Vanessa, the girl sobbing in the corner, was the real biological daughter they had been searching for. "You need to leave. Tonight. Before the press gets wind of this. Before the stock prices dip." My father’s voice was as cold as flint. My mother wouldn't even look at me, staring out the window at the gardens as if I were already a ghost. Just like that, I was erased. I left behind the Birkin bags and the diamonds, throwing my Centurion Card into a crystal bowl with a clatter that echoed like a gunshot. I walked out into the cold night and climbed into a rusted Ford Taurus driven by a man I had never met—my biological father. I went from a mansion to a fourth-floor walk-up in Queens that smelled of laundry detergent and struggle. My new siblings looked at me with a mix of fear and disgust, waiting for the "fallen princess" to break. They expected me to beg for my old life back, to crumble without the luxury I’d known since birth. But they didn't know the truth. I had spent years training in a shark tank, honing survival skills they couldn't imagine. While Richard Carlisle froze my trust funds to starve me out, my net worth was climbing by millions on an encrypted trading app. They thought they were throwing me to the wolves. They didn't realize they were just letting me off my leash. As the Carlisles prepared to debut Vanessa at the Manhattan Arts Gala, I was already making my move. "Get dressed. We're going to a party."
