Chapter 1 Moonlit Serenade

Eldrida's moonlit streets were always deserted, but tonight they seemed to whisper secrets to Lyra as she walked. Her lyre, slung over her shoulder, weighed heavier than usual, as if sensing the turmoil brewing within. The wind carried the faint scent of night blooming flowers, a reminder of the forbidden.

Lyra's thoughts drifted to the warning her mother had given her before passing away: "Never sing in public, never draw attention." But Lyra couldn't resist. Music was her solace, her shield against the darkness that had haunted her family for generations.

As she turned a corner, the town square came into view. The fountain's gentle gurgle beckoned her to play. Lyra's fingers itched to dance across the strings, to let the music consume her.

She sat on the fountain's edge, lyre in hand, and began to sing:

"In twilight's hush, where shadows play

Amidst the darkness, I'll find my way

Through whispers of the past, I'll hear

The secrets hidden, beyond fear"

Her voice, a gentle breeze on a summer's day, wove a spell around the square. The shadows seemed to writhe and twist, as if alive.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the darkness.

_Kael_

Tall, brooding, with eyes that burned like embers, Kael stepped into the moonlight. His gaze locked onto Lyra, and she felt the air thicken, heavy with an unspoken connection. The shadows around him seemed to deepen, as if drawn to his presence.

Lyra's heart skipped a beat. She knew who Kael was – the sorcerer son of the Shadow King, ruler of the dark realm that had terrorized Eldrida for centuries.

Their families were sworn enemies, their love forbidden. Yet, Lyra couldn't look away.

Kael's eyes seemed to hold a thousand secrets, and she felt an inexplicable pull toward him.

"Your music," Kael said, his voice low, husky, "is a siren's call. One I couldn't resist."

Lyra's fingers faltered, the melody dying on her lips. She sensed the danger emanating from Kael, yet couldn't deny the connection between them.

"What brings you here?" Lyra asked, trying to sound braver than she felt.

Kael's smile was a whispered promise of secrets and shadows.

"I've been searching for you, Lyra. For your music."

Lyra's heart quickened. "You shouldn't be here. Our families-"

Kael's eyes flashed with intensity. "I don't care about our families' feud. I care about you."

Lyra's skin prickled with gooseflesh. No one had ever looked at her with such longing.

But their love was impossible.

"We can't," Lyra whispered, her voice barely audible.

Kael's gaze never wavered. "Why not?"

Lyra's eyes dropped, her voice barely above a whisper. "Because our families will never allow it."

Kael's smile grew wider, his eyes burning brighter.

"I'll make them allow it."

"You're a creepy bastard." His eyes smolder me and his answering grin is nothing short of beautiful. Deadly. "Yet you hunger for me. Tell me, this appetite of yours, does it always tend toward 'creepy bastards'?" **** Widower and ex-boss to the Mafia, Zefiro Della Rocca, has an unhealthy fixation on the woman nextdoor. It began as a coincidence, growing into mere curiosity, and soon, it was an itch he couldn't ignore, like a quick fix of crack for an addict. He didn't know her name, but he knew every inch of her skin, how it flushed when she climaxed, her favourite novel and that every night she contemplated suicide. He didn't want to care, despising his rapt fascination of the woman. She was in love with her abusive husband. She was married, bound by a contract to the Bratva's hitman. She was off-limits. But when Zefiro wanted something, it was with an intensity that bordered on madness. He obsessed, possessed, owned. There'd be bloodshed if he touched her, but the sight of blood always did fascinate him. * When Susanna flees from her husband, she stumbles right into the arms of her devilishly handsome neighbour with a brooding glare. He couldn't stand her, but she needed him, if she was ever going to escape her husband who now wanted her dead. Better the devil you know than the angel you don't. She should have recalled that before hopping into Zefiro's car and letting him whisk her away to Italy. Maybe then, she wouldn't have started an affair with him. He was the only man who touched her right, and the crazy man took no small pains in ensuring he would be the last.
