Within forty eight hours, she realized exactly what kind of a man Xander Velasquez was – A cold hearted bastard and a difficult man. With a Contract Marriage binding them together, Xander Velasquez decides to make her life a living hell. However, she isn't bending to his will! Instead, she has a new goal in mind, to change her boss and husband. But then, a question still remains: Will she ever be able to see beyond His walls?

Beyond His Walls Chapter 1 What A Day!

Isabella's POV:

"We've managed to temporarily stabilize him for now, but we are not out of the woods yet. He has a 50-50% chance of survival in his current state as he might never wake up from this coma."

"To increase his chances of survival, we will have to replace his damaged heart within the next three months or risk losing him forever." He ended with a grave look.

I breathed shakily, my palms sweaty yet cold. "H-How much is the surgery?"

"The surgery will cost you $250,000." He responded.

It wrecked me as he delivered that last crushing blow to my soul.

My heart dropped to my stomach as I crumbled to the floor, spent. It felt like a piece inside of me had begun to wither as the reality of the situation weighed down on me like a brooding fiend.

I could possibly loose my father within the next ninety days.

He had been the only one there for me after my mother upped and left us two decades ago..

Offering a sincere apology, the doctor exited the room, giving me enough privacy to deal with the news. It was all crashing down on me, much too fast.

Tears pooled in my eyes, remembering.

I was just five at the time and couldn't process much of what was going on. Whenever I asked Dad about Mum, he always responded by telling me she had gone on a long vacation and would be back soon.

At the tender age of ten, I finally mustered up the courage to ask him to tell me the truth, assuring him I could handle it.

Taking a deep breath, he informed me that she left us. It crushed me even as I asked him why she did that. He had replied saying she never gave a real explanation.

Ever since then, it had been the two of us against the world, thick as thieves.

He gifted me a cake on every birthday and showed up at every major event. He was always present as a proud father to all of my graduations, showing up when it mattered most. He had been my strongest rock and supporter.

And now that he needed me the most, I didn't know how to be there for him.

As if just remembering what the doctor said, I took out my phone and went through my banking apps. I had a grand total of $100,000. I gripped the phone tightly as the first drop fell, then the next.

Putting it away, I was soon a crying mess on the floor.

Where the heck was I supposed to get $150,000?!

I couldn't afford to let the only man that had ever loved me more than I deserved, die like that, but I really didn't know what to do. Even if I sold my car and worked two jobs, it still wouldn't be enough.

Feeling utterly hopeless, I broke into another fit of tears. I stayed in that position for a long while before I could eventually collect myself. Sniffling as I got up, I walked over to where my father lay.

Looking down at his frail form with red puffy eyes as I stood at the side of his bed, I could hardly believe my eyes. For someone so full of life, he seemed so close to death with his pale skin and shut eyes.

Dressed in a plain hospital gown, the only thing signifying life in the otherwise quiet room was the steady rise and fall of his chest and the constant beeping of the monitor. I couldn't bear seeing him like this.

Clasping his left hand in mine, it was deathly cold. I sat down on the chair beside his bed.

"I will not let you die like this Dad. I will do everything within my power to see you open your eyes and walk on your two feet again."

Placing a single kiss on his hand, I crossed the room quickly and walked out the door, heading down to the doctor's office to discuss payment plans.

***

Hours later, I found myself in front of a popular nightclub, Omnia.

I smacked my head lightly. Ugh! I still can't believe I let Casperella talk me into this!

Dressed in a red knee length gown with my hair let down and only a thousand dollars left to my name, my blonde haired bestie had talked me into drinking away my pain before figuring out a solution.

Needless to say, she had a good talk. I was going to drink my heart out for tonight.

Walking into the large building, the booming music reached my ears first. It was a fast paced beat that had you swaying to the music as the vibrations made you shake.

Making my way through the sweaty bodies of the evening clubbers, I quickly found myself a seat at the bar.

I called out to the bartender. "I would like a shot of vodka."

Seconds later, I was downing the first shot of my drink. The liquid flowed down my throat in one swift motion, leaving a burning feeling in its wake.

"Another." I slid my glass over the bar, getting a refill almost immediately. I didn't want to think.

That was gone in seconds as well.

Slightly buzzed, I felt like dancing. So, I lightly stumbled over to the dance floor, swaying my hips to the fast beat with a hand in the air. Soon, a random guy joined me. Too buzzed to care, I ignored his presence.

We continued dancing for a few minutes before I heard them.

"Oh my gosh.. Is- Is he... Drunk?" A girl gushed. Her cheeks were tinged red, blushing as she looked at someone.

"I think so. This will make a great story: 'Multibillionaire Xander Velasquez Found Drunk At A Random Highbrow Club.' How does that sound?" Another one giggled as I rolled my eyes.

They were talking about my billionaire Boss, Xander Velasquez, as rumours began circulating.

Following the direction of their eyes, I spotted him quickly. Turning on my heels, I walked over to him. He seemed to be having a hard time staying awake as he blinked repeatedly.

Getting to him, I leaned down and said, "Sir, I'll be taking you home now. Rumours are beginning to spread about you. Do you think you can walk on your own?"

Nothing. He seemed dazed simply staring at me as he struggled to keep his eyes open.

Cutting my eyes to Ethan-Mr Velasquez's male personal assistant and my colleague, I signaled to him to help me out as I bent to help him up. He came over and immediately, we helped him to his feet and out of the club.

After successfully placing him in the car and shutting the door, Ethan thanked me before rushing over to the driver's seat. Once he was settled in, I lightly tapped the roof of the car twice, alerting him to move as he drove off.

Aware of my busy schedule ahead, I paid for my drinks and drove down to my apartment.

As my head hit the fluffy pillows, I couldn't help but think:

What a day!

I sat in the gray, airless room of the New York State Department of Corrections, my knuckles white as the Warden delivered the news. "Parole denied." My father, Howard Sterling, had forged new evidence of financial crimes to keep me behind bars. He walked into the room, smelling of expensive cologne, and tossed a black folder onto the steel table. It was a marriage contract for Lucas Kensington, a billionaire currently lying in a vegetative state in the ICU. "Sign it. You walk out today." I laughed at the idea of being sold to a "corpse" until Howard slid a grainy photo toward me. It showed a toddler with a crescent-moon birthmark—the son Howard told me had died in an incubator five years ago. He smiled and told me the boy's safety depended entirely on my cooperation. I was thrust into the Kensington estate, where the family treated me like a "drowned rat." They dressed me in mothball-scented rags and mocked my status, unaware that I was monitoring their every move. I watched the cousin, Julian, openly waiting for Lucas to die to inherit the empire, while the doctors prepared to sign the death certificate. I didn't understand why my father would lie about my son’s death for years, or what kind of monsters would use a child as a bargaining chip. The injustice of it burned in my chest as I realized I was just a pawn in a game of old money and blood. As the monitors began to flatline and the family started to celebrate their inheritance, I locked the door and reached into the hem of my dress. I pulled out the sharpened silver wires I’d fashioned in the prison workshop. They thought they bought a submissive convict, but they actually invited "The Saint"—the world’s most dangerous underground surgeon—into their home. "Wake up, Lucas. You owe me a life." I wasn't there to be a bride; I was there to wake the dead and burn their empire to the ground.

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.

I woke up in a blindingly white hotel penthouse with a throbbing headache and the taste of betrayal in my mouth. The last thing I remembered was my stepsister, Cathie, handing me a flute of champagne at the charity gala with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. Now, a tall, dangerously handsome man walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his hips. On the nightstand sat a stack of hundred-dollar bills. My stepmother had finally done it—she drugged me and staged a scandal with a hired escort to destroy my reputation and my future. "Aisha! Is it true you spent the night with a gigolo?" The shouts of a dozen reporters echoed through the heavy oak door as camera flashes exploded through the peephole. My phone lit up with messages showing my bank accounts were already frozen. My father was invoking the 'morality clause' in my mother’s trust fund, and my fiancé had already released a statement dumping me to marry my stepsister instead. I was trapped, penniless, and being hunted by the press for a scandal I hadn't even participated in. My own family had sold me out for a payday, and the man standing in front of me was the only witness who could prove I was innocent—or finish me off for good. I didn't have time to cry. According to the fine print of the trust, I had thirty days to prove my "rehabilitation" through a legal marriage or I would lose everything. I tracked the man down to a coffee shop the next morning, watching him take a thick envelope of cash from a wealthy older woman. I sat across from him and slid a napkin with a $50,000 figure written on it. "I need a husband. Legal, paper-signed, and convincing." He looked at the number, then at me, a slow, crooked smile spreading across his face. I thought I was hiring a desperate gigolo to save my inheritance. I had no idea I was actually proposing to Dominic Fields, the reclusive billionaire shark who was currently planning a hostile takeover of my father’s entire empire.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
