For three years, Jessica endured a loveless marriage while her husband pretended to be impotent. His lies unraveled when a pregnant mistress surfaced. After six months of secretly collecting proof, Jessica threw him out and built her own billion-dollar empire. After the divorce, she transformed into an irresistible figure, attracting admirers. As she left her office one day, she met Kevan, her ex-husband's brother. He stepped in, confronting her. "Was I just a tool to you?" Jessica's lips curled into a calm smile. "How much compensation do you want?" Kevan's voice softened. "All I want is you."

Chapter 1 Revenge

"No way! You're still a virgin?"

As night settled, the music in the bar grew deafening, and a mix of smoke and alcohol permeated the dimly lit, bustling space.

Jessica Reynolds, who was intoxicated and disheartened, really should have headed home to rest. However, the image of an anonymous photo she had just received and the words of her friend Braelynn Harris echoed repeatedly in her mind. "If your husband isn't fulfilling your needs, you should leave him while you're still young. After all, why surrender yourself to total abstinence from sex?"

Throughout her three-year marriage, Jessica had repeatedly tried to spark romance with Matthew Hopkins, her husband, but he consistently brushed her off with various excuses.

Then, unexpectedly, Jessica received an anonymous text message two hours earlier. It contained a photo of Matthew sprawled naked on a vast bed!

In the photo, Matthew rested his head on shredded black stockings and a bra, his neck smeared with lipstick marks. He appeared to be deeply asleep, eyes shut.

The shock of the photo overwhelmed Jessica. She had wanted to call Matthew immediately for an explanation, but his phone was off. Love and loyalty? It seemed like a cruel joke.

Leaning against the bar in a drunken slump, the alcohol reddened Jessica's delicate features, and her wavy hair cascaded loosely around her.

Over the three years, despite Jessica's initial reservations about intimacy, she was, after all, an adult woman living daily with the man she loved. It was difficult not to harbor desires. Particularly today, finding out about Matthew's betrayal unexpectedly ignited a deep longing within her.

Staggering, Jessica went to the restroom to splash water on her face but nearly stumbled on the steps. Luckily, someone caught her just in time.

A deep, mature voice soothed her. "Be careful."

Through her tear-filled eyes, Jessica looked up at the man. He had noble, handsome features and dark, piercing eyes. He stood exceptionally tall, with her head only reaching his chest. He had an air of cool danger about him.

At that moment, Jessica made up her mind. Since Matthew had been unfaithful, there was no reason for her to remain loyal!

After mulling it over for a few seconds, Jessica leaned into the man's arms and boldly wrapped her arms around his neck.

Desperate for affection, Jessica initiated a passionate kiss as soon as they entered the room.

The man slid a strong hand under her hips, aiding Jessica as she wrapped her long, slender legs around his waist.

Noticing her slight shiver, the man chuckled and said, "Scared? Don't worry. I won't let you fall."

His build was lean, yet his arms displayed powerful muscles with prominent veins, and his shoulders were broad, radiating potent masculinity.

They exchanged a profound kiss. Their breathing mingled chaotically, the room filled with the soft, intimate sounds of their fervent embrace. They kissed with unrestrained passion.

The intensity of their sexual intercourse was nothing short of explosive.

Upon awakening, the man stood facing away from Jessica and secured a belt around his waist.

Jessica noticed she had been cleaned up, which showed his considerate side after their intimacy. Her observant eyes spotted that his belt was a limited edition Hermes, worth at least thirty thousand dollars, revealing she had been with a wealthy man the previous night.

"Well, what now?" Jessica, new to the experience of a one-night stand, was unsure what followed such a night of passion.

Turning to face Jessica, the man noticed she was awake and bare. His eyes briefly lingered on a red smear on the white sheet. "Fifty thousand. Is that sufficient?"

Jessica was taken aback. "What do you mean?"

The man had seen their fling as just that, unaware that she had been a virgin. However, her blend of innocence and wildness the previous night had genuinely impressed him. He hadn't felt this gratified in a long while and was prepared to compensate for the experience. "I mean exactly what I said. If that's not enough, I can increase it."

Jessica realized what he implied. "No need. It was mutual consent. We don't need to put a price on it." Putting a price on it would suggest she was selling herself.

Jessica faltered as she rose to get dressed, not realizing until then how sore she was from the previous night's activities, almost unable to stand.

The man quickly steadied her by her waist, reminiscing about her uninhibited spirit from the night before. Her skin was soft and smooth, and despite her lack of experience, her sounds of pleasure were particularly captivating. He offhandedly said, "Well, I am quite satisfied with you. You're plenty wild. How about we consider being friends with benefits?"

Although Jessica had a memorable first encounter with this man, she regarded him solely as a means to an end. She planted a playful kiss on his cheek. "Nah. Last night is just for fun!"

After getting back home, Jessica took a long, hot shower. The man had been quite intense. Her body was adorned with numerous hickeys and bite marks. Despite this, the encounter had left her feeling deeply satisfied and filled with a strong sense of retribution.

Matthew usually worked late, but that day he had come home early.

When Jessica emerged from the bathroom in her bathrobe, she ran into him.

The hickeys on her neck stood out starkly.

Matthew quickly stepped closer, his voice filled with urgency. "Jessica, did you cheat on me?"

I was just a placeholder, a warm body in silk sheets to keep the bed from getting cold while my billionaire "owner," Garrick Head, dreamt of another man’s wife. To the world, I was Ever Wells, the lucky girl he’d plucked from obscurity, but in reality, I was a doll on a 145-day contract, counting every second until I could disappear. Everything shattered when a burner phone buzzed in my hand with a message that turned my blood to ice: "I know your secret, Everly." My real name was the one thing I had buried to protect my four-year-old son, Leo, who was hidden in a cramped apartment in Queens. Just as the blackmailer closed in, Leo’s asthma flared into a life-threatening fever, and the medication he needed cost thousands I didn't have. When I tried to siphon money to save him, Garrick sensed my desperation and froze my credit cards, mocking my "poverty" and demanding I crawl back to his bed to earn his favor. The nightmare intensified at a high-society gala when Clarence Frazier, a dangerous ghost from my past, cornered me. He mouthed my real name in front of the cameras, his eyes promising to tear my fake life apart. Garrick’s possessiveness turned violent as he broke a man’s jaw for insulting me, yet in the same breath, he reminded me I was nothing but a "rented whore" he’d bought off a shelf. I had to smile while he kissed me and detach my mind while he touched me, all while siphoning pennies into a hidden account. He thought he could finalize my imprisonment with a twenty-million-dollar apartment on Central Park West, calling it a gift when it was really just a heavier lock on my golden cage. "I don't want to save the world," I whispered to the empty, marble penthouse after he fell asleep. "I just want to save my son." With a predator from my past watching my every move and a master who treated me like a pet, I realized I couldn't wait for my contract to end. I had to run tonight, or Leo and I would both die in this cage.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."

I spent four hours preparing a five-course meal for our fifth anniversary. When Jackson finally walked into the penthouse an hour late, he didn't even look at the table. He just dropped a thick Manila envelope in front of me and told me he was done. He said his stepsister, Davida, was getting worse and needed "stability." I wasn't his wife; I was a placeholder, a temporary fix he used until the woman he actually loved was ready to take my place. Jackson didn't just want a divorce; he wanted to erase me. He called me a "proprietary asset," claiming that every design I had created to save his empire belonged to him. He froze my bank accounts, cut off my phone, and told me I’d be nothing without his name. Davida even called me from her hospital bed to flaunt the family heirloom ring Jackson claimed was lost, mocking me for being "baggage" that was finally being cleared out. I stood in our empty home, realizing I had spent five years being a martyr for a man who saw me as a transaction. I couldn't understand how he could be so blind to the monster he was protecting, or how he could discard me so coldly after I had given him everything. I grabbed my hidden sketchbook, shredded our wedding portrait, and walked out into the rain. I dialed a number I hadn't touched in years—a dangerous man known as The Surgeon who dealt in debts and shadows. I told him I was ready to pay his price. Jackson and Davida wanted to steal my identity, but I was about to show the world the literal scars they had left behind.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.
