Her peaceful life is shattered when he, a ruthless and cunning mafia leader, bursts into her world, exposing her to a life of danger and deception. With his menacing presence and charisma, He draws Emily into a dark realm of crime and passion, forcing her to confront secrets and desires she's long suppressed. As their worlds collide, Emily must navigate the treacherous landscape of his domain, where loyalty is a luxury and survival is the ultimate goal." EXTRACT "You don't listen love do you?". He chuckled darkly. Emily pushed him away with all her strength and picked up a gun from the floor, it belonged to one of the men that Angelo had killed and making sure there was a lot of distance between them, she aimed the gun at him. Her hands were shaking but she would not cower. "You really think that will scare me baby girl?". Angelo laughed, his sinister laughter ringing in her ears as he spoke sadistically. "You're a murderer, first you killed my aunt, now you killed innocent people, how many more will you kill?". Emily screamed, her hand shaking as fear gripped her body. "Do you really wanna know?". Angelo asked, coming closer.

The mafia's deadly devotion Chapter 1 A new beginning

Emily ran around the house with her little sister Ava chasing her. Her long hair flowing in the air as she ran.

"See if you can catch me". Emily giggled, stopping to stick her tongue out mocking her little sister and running off almost immediately.

"I'll catch you Emily". Ava screamed, running faster. She was determined to catch Emily and laugh in her face for mocking her.

"I want to see you try!!". Emily yelled back, laughing and shaking her head childishly.

Ava stopped exasperated. "Emily, i don't feel too well, I'm feeling dizzy". she called out softly. Emily stopped immediately becoming worried and running back to her.

"Are you okay?". Emily asked worriedly patting Ava's back softly.

"Caught you". Ava giggled, tackling Emily, her eyes lit with playfulness.

"You cheat!, you deceived me". Emily gasped, touching her chest in feigned disappointment.

"And you fell for it, i won, you lost. lalalalalala". Ava stuck her tongue out, saying in a singsong voice.

"You two are at it again, your noise is getting too much in this house". Aunt rosette said coming to the living room. Ava and Emily immediately stood erect ready for her daily dose of scolding.

"You're nineteen, Emily, and you have the mentality of a child, you still run around playing and laughing in the morning like a child. Who plays around first thing in the morning?". Aunt rosette chided pulling Emily's ear.

"Ow ow". Emily whined struggling to remove her hand but the woman's grip was firm.

"Mom, aunt Rosie is yelling at us again". Ava screamed loudly.

"You ava, you're even worse, you're sixteen for crying out loud and you're in no way acting your age". Aunt rosette pulled Ava's ears along with Emily with her free hand.

"Mom!!!". Ava screamed again, aunt rosette had to cover her ears.

"Rosie, leave the children to play". Laura said, coming out of the kitchen, dusting her hands on her apron and removing it.

Aunt rosette shook her head exasperatedly.

"You made them like this". She scolded and Emily's mom laughed.

"Emily, come and help me, I'm going to see the less privileged". Aunt rosette said, picking up her basket.

"What do i get to do?". Ava asked, turning her head to the side, looking at Aunt rosette.

"Go help your mom out in the kitchen". Aunt rosette waved her hand in the air turning back to Emily. Ava groaned but still went to the kitchen, grumbling.

"Emily, come on". Aunt rosette urged.

Emily nodded, dusting her dress and standing up. She followed aunt rosette into the room and they began sorting out everything that they needed. Aunt Rosette was packing the new clothes while Emily packed the gifts, they were not rich but they always gave to people poorer than they were.

In the kitchen, Ava picked up the vegetables, standing beside her mother.

"Mother, why is Aunt rosie being mean to us?". Ava asked momentarily dropping the knife.

"Dear, she's not being mean. She just wants the best for you girls okay?". Laura smiled and Ava nodded, turning her focus back to the vegetables. The door opened and she looked up.

"Dad!!!!, mom, dad's home". She smiled rushing out, Laura behind her with smiles on their faces.

"Dear me!!!, what's wrong with your face?". Laura shrieked, then some men entered into the house. Ava raised her brow.

"Dad, are they visitors?". She asked, she knew her question was silly as the man in front walked like he owned the place. Before he could reply, the one at the back, he seemed to be a guard or something like that, brought out a gun shoving Mr Adams to the floor.

"I feel bad for all those kids out there, having no relative to rely on. They're all alone". Emily mumbled.

"Don't stress yourself child, they have pleasant futures in store for them". Aunt rosette moved closer, patting her head. Emily nodded, wiping the stray tear from her face.

Suddenly a loud noise was heard from outside and Ava's loud scream broke out throughout the small house. Aunt rosette and Emily immediately dropped the items in their hands and rushed outside to see the source of the commotion.

Emily saw her dad was on the floor, his head bent along with two men with other people at the back. She immediately went over to Ava who was now crying. The man looked at Emily for a second and she looked away, feeling a jolt of electricity vibrate through her. Emily looked at her dad, he was now kneeling, she felt a lump in her throat at the sight.

His dark aura was something no one could stand, he commanded power from his very presence.

"Mr Adams,. you've committed a crime against the mafia, i don't like deceit and it would only be fair if I punish you". The man said like it was a regular and harmless thing, the way you tell a child to get an object for you, his voice was so smooth. One of his men pulled Mr. adams up.

Mafia, did he say just say mafia?,.No, he must be mistaken. Emily's eyes widened in shock and she gasped.

"Im... I'm very sorry, I swear it won't happen ever again, I'll repay every thing". Mr Adams pleaded, falling on his knees again. The man brought out his gun and Emily's breath hitched, that was a real fûckin gun, time seemed to still as Emily's eyes remained locked on the gun.

"I would love to punish you myself so cruelly but seeing you have such pretty daughters......". The man smirked looking at them again.

"No no, not my daughters, they're still so young and innocent". Mr Adams pleaded, still on his knees.

"Young you say?". The man scoffed, walking over to Emily obviously checking her out.

"How old are you?". He asked, staring intently at her. Emily said nothing, only looking away, his stare was already making her nervous and the gun in his hand didn't help either.

"You answer me whenever I ask, you get that?". He said coldly, holding her jaw and making her wince in pain and look at him.

"Nineteen, I'm nineteen". Emily choked out, terrified.

"And you?". He faced Ava.

"Sixteen". She said avoiding his eyes. His aura being so intoxicating, she wanted to choke.

"I think I'll do with her". The man said, looking at emily with his dark eyes, his dark eyes seemingly boring into her soul.

"No I'm not going anywhere with you". Emily shook her head, ava held her protectively.

"No no, take me instead if you wish, just leave my daughter out of it. She's only nineteen please". Laura begged. Emily didn't understand what he meant.

"I don't think you realize that you're getting old, Mrs Adams, you may just pass out if I fuck you". The man smirked.

Emily gasped, aunt rosetta covered Ava's ears.

"You monster, how can you say such a thing to someone old enough to be your mother, your mother must regret giving birth to you, i bet her poor upbringing made you like this because I know if i had a son like you i would kill you before you were born, you bast...".

Her words were never finished as gunshots rang in the air. Two bullets were fired into aunt Rosetta's head from the man and his friend. Mr. Adams flinched, this man had an unruly temper and he could snap at the slightest aggravation.

Emily shut her eyes tightly, so did ava. Aunt rosette fell to the floor in a pool of blood. Emily watched in sheer horror as Aunt rosette's lifeless body slumped to the floor.

"Whose turn next?". The man smirked looking around. The emotion that tried to come up was pushed away, replaced by his usual nonchalant demeanor.

"Maybe you, mr Adams or mrs Adams?". He turned to the couple kneeling down together, their heads were bent.

"No no please, I'll go with you don't hurt my family". Emily cried out.

"Now that's a darling". The man chuckled darkly, turning his attention back to her.

"Carlos take her to the car". The man said to his friend.

"No!!!, Emily!, mom!!, dad do something!". Ava screamed clutching the hem of Emily's dress so tightly that her knuckles turned white in the process.

"leave my daughter alone please". Laura begged.

Emily looked back at her family, her dad was still on his knees, her mom weeping beside him and Ava being held back by a hefty man, as she was dragged away. Her father's head was still lowered, he couldn't watch his daughter being taken right in front of him. He was powerless.

Emily's heart thumped like crazy, her eyes watering but she didn't want to add to her family's despair, it was too much of an event to happen in one day alone. She glanced at the man who had done that to her family, he didn't even act like he had done something wrong.

How can someone be this heartless?

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband's Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn't find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn't even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father's legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn's party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara's health and managing every detail of Caden's empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I'd drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause-if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I'd forgotten.
