Chapter 1 Betrayal

"We're here," Malcolm Miller said as he stood in front of the metal door together with Audrey Williams.

Creak! Creak! Creak! The door opened as they both walked in. The sight in front of them was a weak, thin man who looked no better than a skeleton, his spar hair clung to his face as his cheeks boned out, and his eyes sunk in.

He looked like a walking dead, coupled with his hospital outfit.

Audrey was endowed with beauty and grace, her small oval face donned with blue eyes and a high nose bridge, coupled with her enchanting figure and her blond hair.

Malcolm stood out equally handsome but with a hint of fierceness around his handsome countenance, his light brown amber eyes had a touch of arrogance, and his Black wavy hair shined like that of volcanic glass.

"Brother, l can see you are still alive, this is great, so i hope the service here is to your liking," Malcolm said as he saw the weak man.

"Malcolm, Audrey, you two traitors, forget it I will never sign that agreement, l would rather destroy my empire than give it to both of you," Eren said in anger.

"When did all this begin". Eren thought as his gaze rested on Malcolm. Ever since their parents died, all he could remember was the 8-year-old child running after him calling him "big brother".

He labored from scratch as his uncles confiscated every bit of property owned by his parents. He started working at a junkyard, where food was scarce, but he made sure Malcolm got the best side of the meal with a daily ration of 3 meals a day.

Most times he starved, but he made sure Malcolm was well-fed.

After securing his first significant amount of wealth, his circumstances improved, which allowed him to enroll Malcolm in a reputable school. However, as his success grew, so did his workload.

The demands of these expanding businesses made him spend less time with Malcolm. Reflecting on this, Eren couldn't help but feel a sense of regret and self-blame.

He wondered if his lack of attention and presence contributed to Malcolm's current situation.

This realization weighed heavily on Eren, making him question his priorities and decisions. He wished he could go back and change the past.

"Malcolm, I apologize for not being there for you, but why did you do this? How fragile was your love for me that you had to collide with my enemies to go against me? You know how l suffered to build TRENOX Group, but you aim to destroy my life's achievement?

You poisoned me and put me here, why Malcolm, why?" Eren uttered in pain

"You want to know the reason? Eren, hahaha, don't kid me, you are the reason, and you will always be the reason, ever since we were small, l was always the junior brother of the all-talented Eren.

Nobody saw my abilities because you were there, you were just like an annoying stain that refused to wash away.

You said it yourself that you built TRENOX yourself, where do l come in here, l freaking hate you, you are constantly hugging all the game and glory to yourself while you leave the scraps for me to get," Malcolm said, his eyes green with envy.

"That's why l collided with Audrey's family and regularly drugged your morning tea every day for five years. To be honest, words cannot express my happiness seeing you like this because very soon, Eren will die and Malcolm will thrive. Malcolm continued

"Exactly, Eren! Malcolm, l took great pains fawning on you, you have no idea how much hatred l have for you each time i am addressed as your fiancée, Malcolm is the one l love, not you, Now sign this paper so we can't get out of this disgusting place," Audrey said as she tossed a paper bag to Eren.

Eren's sight shifted to Audrey, honestly, he had no impression of this idiotic socialist, the only thing he could remember was him being engaged to her because of a deal, but he made sure she got everything she wanted, so it still hurt seeing her all lovey-dovey with Malcolm, but that wasn't even his concern as his gaze glued onto the agreement in the bag.

"You guys got to be kidding me, l will never do such a thing, l won't give up all my life's achievements to a number of white-eyed wolves.

You want recognition, build your company step by step, and stop being such a wimp, Malcolm. Only fools give excuses for their inadequacy." Eren uttered in anger.

"As for you, you can take the garbage for all l care, it's as disgusting as you by the way, and just for your info, l never liked you so stop treating yourself as a treasure and get the heck out of my face, Eren continued as he tossed the paper bag back at Audrey.

"You bastard, how dare you" Audrey shouted in rage as she glared at Eren.

"It hurts when someone tells you to your face how insignificant and ugly you are? Oops, I'm so sorry I kept this from you all this while." Eren jokes.

"Enough! Eren, how dare you insult my girl, l have no patience left for you, look at this, you might want to consider your stance again".

Malcolm said as he tossed another paper bag back to Eren.

"What's this, Malcolm, you bastard! How could you do this, you, you... Killed Fred, how come, he was my friend, he was like a brother to you, you killed him, why?" Eren shouted in rage as he lunged himself at Malcolm, but he was easily subdued.

"Eren, if I could treat you my brother like this, what a more mere childhood friend, Eren, anything that stands in my way of getting TRENOX will be eliminated. So sign these documents or Fred's family will join him in the grave, this choice is yours". Malcolm smirked.

I had been a wife for exactly six hours when I woke up to the sound of my husband’s heavy breathing. In the dim moonlight of our bridal suite, I watched Hardin, the man I had adored for years, intertwined with my sister Carissa on the chaise lounge. The betrayal didn't come with an apology. Hardin stood up, unashamed, and sneered at me. "You're awake? Get out, you frumpy mute." Carissa huddled under a throw, her fake tears already welling up as she played the victim. They didn't just want me gone; they wanted me erased to protect their reputations. When I refused to move, my world collapsed. My father didn't offer a shoulder to cry on; he threatened to have me committed to a mental asylum to save his business merger. "You're a disgrace," he bellowed, while the guards stood ready to drag me away. They had spent my life treating me like a stuttering, submissive pawn, and now they were done with me. I felt a blinding pain in my skull, a fracture that should have broken me. But instead of tears, something dormant and lethal flickered to life. The terrified girl who walked down the aisle earlier that day simply ceased to exist. In her place, a clinical system—the Valkyrie Protocol—booted up. My racing heart plummeted to a steady sixty beats per minute. I didn't scream. I stood up, my spine straightening for the first time in twenty years, and looked at Hardin with the detachment of a surgeon looking at a tumor. "Correction," I said, my voice stripped of its stutter. "You're in my light." By dawn, I had drained my father's accounts, vanished into a storm, and found a bleeding Crown Prince in a hidden safehouse. They thought they had broken a mute girl. They didn't realize they had just activated their own destruction.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.
