My Formidable Ex-husband Wants Me Back Chapter 1 1st chapter

"Hm?" Aaron's chilly voice could be heard clearly as Irina took in a deep breath.

"Can you come home now?" Irina's grip tightened around the phone immediately she said that. There was silence from the other end for a brief moment.

"Please" Irina spoke again softly

"Okay"

Irina's fingers moved to end the call when she heard a loud shuffling from the other end.

Irina's face contorted into a confused frown. However, the third party at the other end didn't want her to stay in suspense for too long. In the next second, Irina heard a very familiar feminine voice. A voice Irina had grown to detest.

"Aaron, I'm starving, Let's go out to eat"

Irina froze as an icy coldness enveloped her, rendering her warm, beating heart immobile.

"What do you want to eat?" Aaron's voice turned soft, very different from the familiar icy tone he always used with Irina.

This reminded Irina again that his tenderness and love only exist for one woman: Vanessa Eliss, a girl who was Irina's best friend 5 years ago.

"I just want to stay by your side, forever and ever..." Vanessa's hypocritical voice was heard again.

Aaron seemed to have forgotten that his wife, Irina, was still on the phone, listening to their conversation.

Irina hung up the call because she didn't want to hear about how much they loved each other. Now, recalling Vanessa's words was enough to ruin her previously lighthearted mood.

However, this wasn't the first time Vanessa had dropped provocative words or messages just to annoy her.

"Irina, I'm back. You have no place in the Willer family."

"Aaron Willer and I had been together way before you met him. Do you think that you can replace me in these few years? Just Get lost and Never show your face ever again!"

"You don't know how much Aaron loves me, do you? Even when he lies on your bed, all he thinks about is me. You only deserve to be my substitute. Irina, does this feel good?"

"Just sign the f**king papers and get lost, Irina!"

Irina thought that she had gotten over it all but she knew it wasn't going to be that easy.

For 4 years, Irina and Aaron were forced into an arranged marriage by both their parents but what Irina never expected was to fall for him at first sight.

For four years, Irina had tried everything to make him fall for her, or at least acknowledge her as his wife. In return, she was labeled as a shameless woman who did nothing for her husband's happiness. Even Aaron despised her from the moment she married into his family.

Today, 27th June, was their wedding anniversary, which he failed to remember as well.

Before meeting Aaron, Irina had always dreamed of becoming a medical doctor. However, she had abandoned this dream to become a stay-at-home wife to please Aaron's family. She believed that as long as she was with the man she loved, nothing else mattered.

But right now, she felt like a real joke.

****

A loud knock was heard, making Irina, who was asleep, wake up with a frown.

"Mrs willer"

"What is it?" Irina asked with a tired yawn.

"Mr willer is back"

"Alright, I'll be out soon," Irina spoke with a glimmer of hope shining in the depth of her crystal blue eyes.

Irina did not delay in the slightest and immediately freshened up before putting on the set of jewelry that she had worn during her wedding 5 years ago.

"I thought you wouldn't come back today" Irina spoke softly.

"I have something to say" Aaron spoke in a deep voice, his voice magnetic and charming. Even if he just said a few words, Irina was fascinated.

His slender finger pointed at the document at the side, indicating for Irina to take it.

A little closer, the words on the cover suddenly burst into her eyes.

Divorce agreement?

Irina took a deep breath, trying her very best to look unaffected. "And....do you know that today is our wedding anniversary?"

Irina clenched her fist around the hem of her gown. Her hands involuntarily trembled, sweat escaping from her trembling palms.

"Hmm?" Irina pushed, her eyes became misty, and she felt the prickling sensation in her nose that indicated tears were looming.

"That is none of my concern. After all, you know fully well that only one woman deserves to be my wife and that is Nessa." Aaron said coldly and indifferently. "It will come to an end one day. I just found out that maybe today is the best day for us to finalize the divorce."

Irina struggled to regain her composure, her racing heart gradually slowing to a more steady rhythm. As she tried to calm down, she noticed the intense redness in her palm, evidence of how tightly she had pinched it in her distress.

Everyone thought she was merely a tool used by her parents to elevate themselves to the upper class, but only Irina understood what this marriage meant to her.

But now, Aaron suddenly proposed to divorce her.

Irina desperately controlled her emotions so that she would not lose her composure. At this moment, she was right in front of Aaron, but she did not dare to reach out and pick up the document.

Irina managed to calm down and forced a bitter smile. "Tell me, Aaron, That you've never had even if it is a little bit of affection for me"

Aaron bore a disgusted expression. "Irina, I'll have you know that the person I want to marry is Vanessa Eliss Pearson. I never wanted to marry you! Only Vanessa has the right to be my wife. You're not good enough for me," he declared.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.

I was at my own engagement party at the Sterling estate when the world started tilting. Victoria Sterling, my future mother-in-law, smiled coldly as she watched me struggle with a cup of tea that had been drugged to ruin me. Before I could find my fiancé, Ryan, a waiter dragged me into the forbidden West Wing and locked me in a room with Julian Sterling, the family’s "fallen titan" who had been confined to a wheelchair for years. The door burst open to a frenzy of camera flashes and theatrical screams. Victoria framed me as a seductress caught in the act, and Ryan didn't even try to listen to my pleas, calling me "cheap leftovers" before walking away with his pregnant mistress. When I turned to my own family for help, my father signed a document severing our relationship for a five-million-dollar payout from Julian. They traded me like a commodity without a second thought. I didn't understand why my own parents were so eager to sell me, or how Ryan could look at me with such disgust after promising me forever. I was a sacrifice, a pawn used to protect the family's offshore accounts, and I couldn't fathom how every person I loved had a price tag for my destruction. With nowhere left to go, I married Julian in a bleak ceremony at City Hall. He slid a heavy diamond onto my finger and whispered, "We have a war to start." That night, inside his secret penthouse, I watched the paralyzed man stand up from his wheelchair and activate a screen filled with the Sterling family's darkest secrets. The execution had officially begun.
