He had really prepared for this day; today, he would finally confess his love to her. "Sorry, Melvin, I don't want anything from you." I felt as if the ground had fallen away beneath me after he spoke. Immediately, we heard a scream in the distance. And I knew who it was-none other than Augusto Guillermo, the man who captivated all the girls at school. There wasn't a girl who didn't like him, while we boys were constantly overshadowed because of him. "Why is he here again? Isn't he rich? Why choose to study here?" "Tsk! There he goes again, your annoying hero!" said the guy next to me. "Oh, don't expect your Chelsea to respond to you! As long as that man is around, none of the girls here will like us," I muttered, left alone, glaring at Augusto. He should disappear from this school. He gets all the attention; besides being handsome, he's also smart and is likely to be the top student next semester. Suddenly, he had a thought, and from that moment, he knew he would regret it. He discovered that the man was ruthless, as he had seen him tormenting his classmates who had spoken ill of him earlier. What was even worse was catching him in a compromising position with someone, a girl who looked like the school president. That was the result of his surveillance and the trauma it caused him because of the sickening things he saw. He gathered evidence and spread it all over campus, causing a big commotion. What will happen when Augusto finds out that he was the one who spread the rumors? Will his quiet life end, or will everything remain a secret? Stay tuned.

Chapter 1 the campus

Chapter 1

Melvin's Point of View

There was chaos inside the campus because of the papers posted about Augusto's scandal. He furiously tore down the papers from the bulletin board.

He glared at everyone, one by one, and announced a threat that whoever was behind this would pay for it.

I felt a sudden wave of anxiety at his words, but I wouldn't be caught since I never spoke to or had any conflict with him. I always made sure to avoid crossing paths with him.

Finally, I had my revenge. I ruined his reputation, and that was a huge bonus for making the girls in our campus look at him differently.

At least, that's what I thought. It turned out that it made him even cooler in the eyes of the girls. They even said that Augusto could charm not just women, but also men. That gave me goosebumps.

I was in the classroom when my one and only friend, Nicolo, arrived and greeted me.

"Do you have the assignment? Let me copy it. I was playing Mobile Legends last night and forgot about it." Sometimes, you just want to smack your friend.

"Here, copy it," I said as I handed him my notebook.

"Is this correct-?" I immediately smacked him because, how dare he be picky when he's the one copying?

"Stop being so choosy! You're such an idiot." He laughed and quickly copied from my notebook.

After a while, the student council entered our classroom to investigate the incident involving Augusto.

They started searching through our things when Nicolo suddenly spoke up, and my eyes widened at what he was holding.

"Hey, you have a printout of Augusto's scandal-" I quickly snatched it from his hand, crumpled it up, and shoved it in my mouth.

"What was that?" asked a student council member. I signaled to Nicolo to keep quiet.

"Ah, Melvin just has a lemon square, but he swallowed it quickly," Nicolo lied, and the entire inspection passed with the paper in my mouth.

Once they left, I quickly spat it out.

"Confess, Melvin! Were you the one who spread Augusto's scandal?"

"Shhh! Keep your voice down; they might hear you. Yes, it was me, but I didn't expect it to turn out like this. It shouldn't have ended this way."

"You idiot! Didn't you think that no matter what dirt you throw at Augusto, everyone will still like him? You never think things through."

"Augusto is too perfect to be judged. If he ran around in his underwear, people would probably scream in excitement. Meanwhile, we... we'd just look like perverts."

"Why did he even study here when he's so rich?"

"Exactly... I was thinking the same thing."

"Chelsea would have already answered me if it weren't for that Augusto."

"Idiot, even if Augusto wasn't around, you still wouldn't stand a chance. Chelsea's probably taller than you-ouch!"

"Shut up, or I'll make sure you lose your rank in our next game."

"Geez, can't you take a joke? Let's play later."

"Sure." After class, we went downstairs for recess, but Nicolo and I both stopped in our tracks when we saw a bloodied schoolmate in front of us.

"If I ever find out who spread that... they'll end up just like this," he said, and my knees went weak at his words.

The guy he punched was almost unrecognizable.

"Be careful, bro, he's really angry," Nicolo whispered, and we quickly walked away. I promised myself I wouldn't do it again.

Good thing there are no CCTV cameras at our school, or I'd probably be in my grave right now. I better just play some games to calm my nerves.

Melvin's Point of View

After class, we hurriedly left the classroom, but we ran into Augusto's group.

I tried to hide behind Nicolo, but he pushed me away because I was sticking too close.

"Hide me-" I stopped when I felt someone bump into me from behind.

"Hey! Move! You're blocking the way!" one of his friends pushed me aside and walked away like they owned the school.

"You okay?" Nicolo asked, but I was too annoyed to hear him. Who does he think he is? Just wait, I'll drive you crazy trying to figure out who I am.

"Hey, what's with that grin? You look like you're high on drugs."

"Shut up! This is your fault."

"Why me? You're the one hiding from Augusto."

"If I get in trouble or die because of you, I'll haunt your dreams." I said, getting on my bike.

"Idiot, I'm not scared!" he shouted after me until I got home, where I saw mom and dad in the living room.

"How's school, Melvin?" Mom asked. She keeps asking me that same question. I'm not a kid anymore.

"It's fine, Mom," I replied and went straight to my room. Later tonight, I'll execute my plan again.

I need to get more pictures of him and spread them all over the school and the internet. Let's see if he won't go crazy after this.

I put on my black hoodie and secretly left the house. I headed to the club they always go to. When I got there, I went inside and immediately looked for his group.

I wasn't disappointed because I spotted Augusto's face in the distance. He was really something else, looking handsome even from afar.

He was kissing a girl at his table while his friends were having fun. I discreetly sat at a nearby table.

When I clicked my phone, I was startled when it lit up, drawing their attention to me.

Damn, I forgot to turn off my flash. This is bad! I ran quickly, but my eyes widened when I saw Augusto following me.

Why does this guy have such long legs? I sped up, but I tripped, not noticing the rough pavement design.

"I caught you!" He was about to remove my hoodie, but because I was a Boy Scout in elementary school, I was always prepared!

I took the pepper spray from my hoodie pocket and sprayed it in his eyes. Then, I ran as fast as I could.

" he shouted. Tsk! Stalker, my foot! You're lucky my phone flash was on.

Little did Melvin know that as he moved away from Augusto, Augusto attached a tracking device to his hoodie so he could catch his stalker. Melvin fell into the trap because Augusto had suspected him from the start due to his body language.

"You're dead!" Augusto said, grinning widely as he looked at his phone.

Melvin's Point of View

That was close! Good thing I had my mom's pepper spray. When I got home, I went straight to my room and lay down.

The next day, I hurried to school, and Nicolo and I arrived at the same time, so I let him ride my bike.

"You know there's no secret that won't be revealed..."

"Yeah, if you don't gossip. You're the only one who knows who spread that. You're in trouble if you betray me."

"Why would I do that?" As Nicolo and I were walking to the classroom, two guys blocked my way and grabbed me by both arms.

"What's this about, huh? Let go of me!" I struggled and looked at Nicolo-he was gone! Damn that jerk, he left me.

"Come with us if you don't want to get hurt."

"Shut up!" They kept trying to drag me away while I shouted loudly.

"Hey, what's going on here?" The jerks ran away, leaving me behind. I'm so clever, I thought as I stood up.

"Are you okay?" I nodded and thanked the guard. If it weren't for him, I might have been dragged away by those thugs.

"I'm fine, thank you. You're going to be late for your class."

"Can I ask you a favor, sir?"

"What is it?"

"Can you escort me to my classroom? I'm scared they might come back."

"What are you, a kid? I'm on duty-"

"I'll take him." I suddenly froze when I saw Augusto appear in front of us.

"Oh, Sir Augusto, it's you!" Sh*t, I need to get out of here.

"Where are you going? Didn't you want an escort? Come on, I'll take you-"

"Ah, no need, you might be late for your class-"

"I'll escort you-"

"No, it's okay, I can manage. My classroom is just nearby." I was shocked when he dragged me down the hallway, and now I'm nervous about what's happening.

"Where's your classroom?" I hesitated to point it out to him, but I had no choice since I was already late.

"Over there." He walked me to my classroom, and everyone stopped and started whispering when they saw Augusto. Some were trying to contain their excitement.

"You're late, Mr. Masemas!" our Math teacher said angrily.

"Excuse me, ma'am, but I'm the one to blame for this. I asked him to help me with something, that's why he's late. I'm sorry." I was surprised by his excuse. What's his plan?

The girls in the classroom squealed. Tsk! It's different when you're handsome... Effortlessly making people blush, while average guys like us have to work hard to win over the girls we like.

I took a deep breath before slowly opening my eyes. I was wearing a white gown that hugged my body, making me look even more beautiful. I glanced at the bouquet of white flowers in my hand and smiled before walking into the garden. I was amazed because the theme of our wedding was in my favorite color, and there were butterflies happily flying around. I was happy because the family of the man I had dreamed of accepted me. They wanted our wedding, even though it was sudden, and I was happy despite it being an arranged marriage in an unexpected situation. I thought this only happened to rich people, but I was wrong because it happened to me too. If only I could scream and shout that I am the luckiest woman in the world because the man I once dreamed of is now mine. "Love is a choice," he said, so I trusted him a lot, but he had one request for the right time. There was no problem because he was mature enough when it came to relationships, and we loved each other. But fate is truly deceptive because a time came when many "what if" questions flooded my mind. What if I couldn't fulfill his one request and dream? What if his former lover could give it to him instead? What if I saw him happy with her because of that dream? Can I stay with him even if he says he loves me but prioritizes her? What if fate tests us, and even though we love each other, he chooses her because that's what he's making me feel now? "I don't want to hurt you, but they are my family now," he said seriously, and I lowered my head and cried in front of him. I could still hold on, but I could feel that he didn't want to anymore. Should I still fight for him even though it hurts so much? I wondered. "Do you want me to leave?" I asked bravely, hoping he would say no, but I was wrong. "If that's what's best. Leave," he said for the last time and hurriedly turned his back on me. I couldn't do anything but cry and cry, so I made a decision. "For the sake of your dream, I'll do it," I said softly and started packing my things. I hope you'll be happy when the time comes that fate brings us together again. I'm Christian Rana Reyes. And he is Frank Lin Mondragon.

"Ahhh! No! Don't kill me! Don't..." Sweat poured and Shu trembled due to the multitude of imaginations swirling in his mind at that moment. They had just finished the betrothal wedding and were currently gathered for dinner. While eating, he couldn't help but think of various things, especially knowing that he would be joining his husband after they finished eating. "Hays, erase! Erase! What am I thinking! He probably isn't that aggressive. Besides, I'm still a minor and this is just a pre-wedding. He probably won't force me to do anything with him tonight!" With that thought, his hands shook as he clutched his dress under the table, which was noticed by the man beside him who then smirked. He flinched slightly when the man suddenly leaned in to whisper in his ear. "Relax, I'm not your groom, Miss. Your groom couldn't attend today's wedding." Confusion replaced the fear and anxiety that had enveloped her when she heard what the man, who had exchanged rings with her earlier, said. "A-aren't you Mr. Griffin?" "No, Ma'am. I'm Lieutenant Carber, the General's right-hand man. I was instructed to represent him." "W-what?!" "You heard right, Ma'am. He was busy and couldn't attend. However, he did leave instructions regarding what you should do now that the wedding is over." "Huh! I can't believe it, he really might be the demon they say he is! I was wondering why this man seems kind and doesn't look like a demon, turns out he's not really the infamous demon general who will be my husband!" she blurted out in frustration. "Did you say something?" Lieutenant Carber asked as he finished talking to other people at the table. Shu smiled falsely and shook her head at the still serious lieutenant. "Hays, if my twin wasn't sick, I wouldn't have agreed to marry that general! So mysterious, he might be ugly and old like they say, and on top of that, he's supposedly Lucifer's nephew who lost two wives already! Omg wait! What if he's the reason for their deaths like they say? Grr, scary!" She hugged herself and whispered with her eyes closed in fear. "I-if that's the case, when will I ever see and meet him. Hays, that demon General!" Background of the Story Shu had been married for four years to a man she had never seen or heard speak. She wasn't supposed to be the one to marry him, but rather the only daughter of a wealthy family where her mother worked. It's a complicated story; all she knew was that she woke up married to a man she didn't know. All she knew was that he had a high status and was a General, protector of the only child of the country's first family. From what she heard, he was cruel, strict, and had a terrifying aura. Despite the fear she felt, she still awaited the day she would finally see and meet him.
