Chapter 1 Diagnosed with cancer

"You have been diagnosed with cancer ma" the doctor said to me.

"I knew it was something bad, you could always tell from the way the doctor looks at you".

I sighed and asked him, "how much time do I have left?"

"Approximately 12 months, that is if you use all the medications given to you" he answered.

"Thank you doctor, I'll take my leave"

I stood up and left.

My name is Cecilia, am just 18 years old. I am the only daughter of my wonderful family and the only heir to the throne.

I'm a rich girl so money is never my problem, I get everything I want anytime I need them. But I guess money just can't buy everything.

After listening to what the doctor had said to me, I realized there are lot of things I wish I could before I die so that's why I made up I'm gonna live the remaining rest of my life doing what I want.

Hey! Don't pity me, I know it's sad but what else can I do.

"Cecilia, you are back home early today" Priya my personal maid said to me when I got home.

"We finished up things quickly in college, that's why" I lied to her.

"Is there anything you'd love to have for lunch ma" she said.

"No, but can I ask you a question though,"

"What's it ma?"

"If you only have one year to live, what will you do with it"

"To be honest, I don't know ma, because I've never actually thought of that, what makes you think that way"

"It was from one of the questions they asked us in literature class today" I lied again.

"Ohhhh" Priya said.

"Am tired right now, I'd love to have a little nap if you don't mind" I told her and she left.

I opened my wardrobe and took a new book. I wrote my diary on the first page of the book.

"Things I would love to do in one year" I wrote in the next page.

"1. Get a boyfriend"

Yes, I have never actually dated a guy, not because I don't want to but I just felt like I never actually needed one.

But I guess it's time to get one, even if it's just for a year.

The next day, I went to college looking gorgeous as always, I walked through the hallways and then straight to class.

I got to class and looked at everyone in the class, they all looked happy but I was not.

Maybe it's because I'll only be seeing their face for only a year.

After class was over, I went back home and entered my room crying.

I knew I was dying but why I do I feel so bad now, I tried to control myself but who Am I deceiving, no one will be happy to die.

Suddenly, my father called me from downstairs.

"Cecilia am home" he said.

I hurried downstairs gave him a big hug, Mr. Williams; my dad was known for traveling from one country to another, he has never actually settled in one place before. That's because he has branches everywhere. So I bearly see him, maybe once in a month.

I was still hugging him when I noticed the stranger who just kept looking at me with curiosity.

I let go of my dad and then looked at the man with "Who is this?" Written all over my face.

"Meet Jackson, the soon to be CEO of the manship empire" My father said.

"Manship empire! That's one of the top richest business in the world" I said in my mind.

"Jackson, meet Cecilia my daughter" my dad said.

"Hi Cecilia, it's nice meeting you" he said stretching his hands for a handshake.

"Nice meeting you too, Jackson" i shaked him with a smile.

"He has a business contract to handle, but since when he was not able to book an hotel to stay, I urged him to stay here with us since he will just be here for a week or two " my father explained.

"Please feel at home, your father has always been of help to me back in England so this is the least I can do for his son" my father said to him.

" Sure, thank you so much sir " he answered.

My father called the maid and told them to take the young guy luggages to the guest room and told him to follow the maid.

"How old is he, Dad?" I said watching the man go upstairs.

"He's 24 years old, why do you ask?"

"Nothing, I was just curious" I said.

"Am coming, I left my phone in the car" he said and left.

Five Hours later

"He's five years older than me, that's not bad is it?" I said out loud in my room while brushing my hair.

"Who's that?" Priya asked.

"No one, never mind" I said.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.
