Chapter 1 Rival Manipulation

The sound of footsteps could be clearly heard from outside the room, leading to the room. The footsteps then stopped right in front of the room's door, followed by a synchronised knock on the door.

"Come in!"

A tall and sexy woman came in front of the person inside the room.

"Excuse me, sir. Did you call for me?" she asked softly.

The middle-aged man looked sharply at the woman he knew to be his assistant. "Has everyone gathered?" asked a middle-aged man, the leader of Abraham's family.

"Yes, sir. Mr and Mrs Latulini are already in the meeting room."

Mr Abraham gave a small nod. "Very well. I'll be right there."

Some time was needed to prepare to go to the room designated as the meeting place between the two big families, in the course of their business.

When they learnt that Mr Abraham was coming to the room, they prepared to welcome him.

Now, standing before them was a man who was very influential to the two large groups. As much as 80% of the shares were held by this middle-aged man. Therefore, they respected Mr Abraham very much.

"Welcome, Mr Abraham."

They greeted him with an upright position, then sat down as soon as Mr Abraham took his seat.

Mr Abraham cast his eyes around the room. It was true what his secretary had said, that everyone had gathered in their respective places.

"Thank you for coming to this meeting place. We have a lot to discuss, for the betterment of these two large ongoing groups," he said, causing sweat to pour down the forehead of the Latulini family patriarch.

To the right of Mr Abraham was Zeo Abraham, the only descendant of the Abraham family. Next to Zeo were Mr Abraham's brother and sister-in-law, who were none other than Zeo's uncle and aunt.

"Previously, I wanted to ask the results of the marketing done by Latulini Group. Has there been any progress regarding the services being marketed?" asked Mr Abraham.

"Well, thank you for your question, Mr Abraham. We, at the Latulini Group, have been trying our best to market the space design services that the Abraham Group provides," said Mr Latulini, as he opened a data file on his computer screen.

Everyone was paying close attention to every slide Mr Latulini was presenting. Every piece of data was valid, to the point where there was almost no loophole for those who were unhappy with him to get through.

Of the many people who liked him, there must be a handful of people who disliked him. That was true, because it was Zeo's aunt and uncle who were unhappy with the co-operation between the two families.

Ren Abraham, Zeo's uncle, leaned closer to his wife. "At this rate, can we fight them?"

It seemed that they were very worried, because the data they provided was very valid, and could be accounted for.

"Relax, we still have a plan B!"

Ren nodded, having heard Yuki whispering such soothing things to him.

Yuki looked deeply at Mr Latulini, while preparing herself to make a big attack on him.

Needless to say, his public speaking was above average. Not infrequently in every business meeting, Mr Abraham always tucked Yuki into his business trip.

"Those are some of the clients that Latulini Group has acquired," Mr Latulini said as a sign to end his presentation.

Everyone applauded, including the couple Yuki and Ren.

"Thank you for your presentation, Mr Latulini," Mr Abraham said, giving him his appreciation.

Yuki prepared to raise her hand, making Mr Abraham who saw her immediately give a small nod, indicating the time and place for her to speak.

Yuki got up from her seat, matching Mr Latulini who had already been standing.

"Thank you, Mr Abraham for giving me the time and space. Before that, I would like to talk about my grievances with the Latulini Group, in the past few months. This has had an impact on the income that the Abraham Group receives, from the agreement that was previously determined together," she said with great confidence.

In front of her now, a projector and her laptop were connected. She opened up all the data and reports she had, in order to bring down the Latulini Group in front of their current leader.

"In January, Latulini Group was involved in a secret project with several companies, such as Mutiara Group, Sky Group and Star Group. The income that was supposed to be given to Abraham Group was 70% but Latulini Group only gave 30%," she explained, leaving everyone shocked.

Zeo did not move, he could only listen to the seniors present what they had prepared. However, it is undeniable that Zeo felt very surprised and did not expect, that he found fraud committed by the Latulini party that he had previously trusted so much.

Mr Latulini glared in protest. "Interruption! I did receive the project in January, but we gave the fee as stated in the contract!"

The atmosphere became awkward, as Mr Latulini protested against Yuki's accusation.

Yuki glared at him. "I speak with evidence! There is evidence of the files you signed with those clients!"

Evidence? That was an impossible thing. Mr Latulini felt that he had not signed any files at all, other than the mutual agreement files with the clients.

"What signature proof are you referring to?" asked Mr Latulini defiantly.

Yuki smiled, then took out several files that contained signatures of agreements that Mr Latulini knew nothing about.

Sheet after sheet he opened, with his eyes constantly glaring in disbelief at what he saw.

"What's this?" muttered Mr Latulini, very surprised by the files he knew nothing about.

Yuki flashed a smile, then brought up the scan of the file in Mr Latulini's hand.

All eyes were stunned, shocked by what they saw. Although they couldn't believe it, but they clearly saw the signature that belonged to Mr Latulini.

"You can see, this is the proof of the file I was talking about. Mr Latulini secretly embezzled the money we got from the project in January!"

The atmosphere was getting more and more heated, and instantly the people who worked for the Latulini Group became very afraid of the accusations that Yuki had thrown at them.

Zeo glared in shock. "How could they do such a cunning thing with our company? It's unforgivable!" he thought, feeling very upset about the co-operation agreement between them.

"Is that true, Mr Latulini?" asked Mr Abraham, who was already emotionally inflamed by the devious things that Yuki and Ren had manipulated.

I spent four hours preparing a five-course meal for our fifth anniversary. When Jackson finally walked into the penthouse an hour late, he didn't even look at the table. He just dropped a thick Manila envelope in front of me and told me he was done. He said his stepsister, Davida, was getting worse and needed "stability." I wasn't his wife; I was a placeholder, a temporary fix he used until the woman he actually loved was ready to take my place. Jackson didn't just want a divorce; he wanted to erase me. He called me a "proprietary asset," claiming that every design I had created to save his empire belonged to him. He froze my bank accounts, cut off my phone, and told me I’d be nothing without his name. Davida even called me from her hospital bed to flaunt the family heirloom ring Jackson claimed was lost, mocking me for being "baggage" that was finally being cleared out. I stood in our empty home, realizing I had spent five years being a martyr for a man who saw me as a transaction. I couldn't understand how he could be so blind to the monster he was protecting, or how he could discard me so coldly after I had given him everything. I grabbed my hidden sketchbook, shredded our wedding portrait, and walked out into the rain. I dialed a number I hadn't touched in years—a dangerous man known as The Surgeon who dealt in debts and shadows. I told him I was ready to pay his price. Jackson and Davida wanted to steal my identity, but I was about to show the world the literal scars they had left behind.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.
