Chapter 1 New Job and a big Move.

Faith

Faith Jenkins was waiting for the video call the would either help get her and her kids away from the unnecessary drama, or leave her looking for another opportunity.

She needed to get herself away from this area.

Lonny Sands and his family had done all they could to ruin her. She couldn't get any jobs in New England. Lonnie did nothing for their kids due to being in a Mental Hospital for Vets. Afraid for their safety and needing employment she had applied to a very nice sounding older man who had a newly returned from war son. He needed help in a lot of ways.

She spotted the incoming video chat message and tapped ok. The interview went flawlessly. She would have to share a house that was massive compared to their hotel room. It sat on 10 acres with a in-law apartment which the man's son lived in.

She found out her job duties were to keep the place clean, cook his food and help him when needed. "Easy work Ms. Jenkins. You get to live in bigger section freely get paid $30.00 per hour and have time to spend with your kids. I also know your situation I am wiring you money to help with the move. Can you be here by next week?"

"Yes sir. Thank you for the amazing opportunity. I just need a small favor. Can you do your best to keep this from coming out to those in New England?" The man nodded yes. And the meeting was over.

She checked them out of the hotel for the last time. Hooked the small U-Haul to her Yukon and off they went to start their new life.

Her 2 eldest kids had always wanted to go to Hershey PA. So they did that the second day of the trip. Savannah and Daniel were overjoyed to get to pick any 2 treats they wanted. Both agreed on a huge Hershey bar and Crunch bar. She bought herself a huge Snickers bar. The money spent was worth it seeing their faces so happy.

After that it was straight on to Galveston Texas. They Made it there by Sunday Afternoon. She called her new boss who brought some men to help move their things inside to their place. His wife had brought a meal for them and helped settle the kids. While her boss Sam Gould showed her how bad his sons apartment was.

Cameron was drunk and the apartment a huge mess. It was the same old thing all the time. Sam just couldn't understand why. His kids were brought up to clean up after themselves. He quickly exited the place while apologizing to his new employee.

"Mr. Gould this isn't anything new for me. The army teaches them to be soldiers then fails to reintegrate them into civilian society. I have seen far worse. Would I by chance be able to get a rundown on his past before his deployment and files on his history in service and after. I will use the information gathered to come up with different ways of helping him find his old self in the war zone inside his head." Sam nodded.

Elodie took a deep breath and knocked, the sound echoing in the quiet corridor. A moment of silence passed, broken only by the pounding of her heart. Finally, the door snicked open, revealing a surprised Dashiell. 'Can't you see the Do Not Disturb sign? We don't want-' His initial frown quickly morphed into confusion at the sight of his wife. 'What are you doing here?' he demanded. 'Your girlfriend invited me,' Elodie replied, her voice laced with icy calm. She tried to peer past him, but his broad frame blocked the view. A saccharine voice chimed in from within the room. 'Elodie? Oh dear, we didn't mean for you to find out this way. It's just that-' Elodie cut her short. 'Oh please, Selene. Spare me the fake apologies. You wouldn't have sent me all those texts if you didn't want me to know.' Dashiell shifted uncomfortably, his face a mask of annoyance. 'What texts?' Elodie stepped past him, taking in the luxurious suite with a sardonic smile. The king-sized bed, the scattered rose petals, the lingering scent of sex – it all painted a vivid picture of their betrayal. She looked up at Dashiell, her gaze unwavering. 'I want a divorce.' ****** Dashiell lived a life of luxury, surrounded by the best things money could buy. But when a car accident left him vulnerable, he met Elodie, a seemingly ordinary woman who nursed him back to health. Mistaking her for just another employee, Dashiell entered into a loveless marriage with her solely for convenience. However, fate had a different script in store. Elodie, the 'ordinary nurse,' held a secret more precious than any diamond: she was the sole heiress to Northstar, a vast and powerful enterprise. Unaware of her true identity, Dashiell cast her aside when his ex-girlfriend returned, leaving Elodie humiliated. But Elodie was not one to be easily broken. She shed the facade of the meek nurse, reclaiming her rightful inheritance and stepping into the role of Northstar's CEO. Now, the woman Dashiell discarded was the one holding the reins of power. As Elodie thrives in her new role, Dashiell is consumed by regret. He finally sees Elodie for the extraordinary woman she truly is, realising the depth of his mistake. But will his remorse be enough to win back the heart he so carelessly discarded?
