My Not So Aloof Billionaire Chapter 1 Frustration on the Sidewalk

Ira trudged down the bustling city sidewalk, her mind a tangled mess of frustration and anxiety. Days had blended into an unending cycle of job applications, rejection emails, and mounting debt. Each step felt heavier, as though the weight of her problems was physically pulling her down.

She clutched her worn leather bag closer, her fingers curling tightly around the strap. Today had been particularly rough. Another rejection email had arrived that morning, curtly informing her that the position had been filled by someone more "qualified." She scoffed at the memory. Qualified. What did that even mean anymore? She had the degrees, the experience, the drive. What she didn't have was luck.

Her thoughts were so consumed by her troubles that she didn't see the man in the crisp suit until she collided with him. Papers flew from his briefcase, scattering like autumn leaves across the pavement.

"Can't you watch where you're going?" he snapped, his voice sharp and accusatory.

Ira, already on edge, felt a spark of anger. She wasn't usually one to confront strangers, but today was different. Today, she had reached her limit. "If you equally watched where you were going, this wouldn't have happened. It's a two-way affair, and it's equally your fault."

The man's expression darkened, clearly not satisfied with her response. He looked her up and down, his eyes narrowing with disdain. Ira, sensing an unnecessary escalation and not wanting to add more stress to her already burdened mind, sighed deeply. "Look, I'm sorry. I don't have time for this."

She hurriedly gathered herself and walked away, leaving the man grumbling behind her. The encounter lingered in her thoughts, a small, unpleasant note in the symphony of her worries. As she continued down the street, she couldn't help but replay the interaction in her mind. Why did people always assume they were the center of the universe? She shook her head, trying to rid herself of the lingering irritation.

---

When she finally reached her small apartment, the familiar creak of the door greeted her. The place was both her sanctuary and her prison. The worn-out couch and the cluttered kitchen table were stark reminders of her financial struggles. She dropped her bag on the couch and headed straight for the table, her heart sinking at the sight of the bills and final notices scattered across it.

She sighed deeply, sitting down and sorting through the mail. Most of it was the same: overdue bills, credit card statements, and rejection letters from jobs she had applied to. The weight of her financial situation pressed heavily on her shoulders, and she struggled to keep her head above water.

As she glanced through yet another rejection letter, her phone buzzed. It was a reminder of her next student loan payment. Ira buried her face in her hands, feeling the sting of tears. She needed to find a job, any job, to help alleviate her debt. With renewed determination, she opened her laptop and began scrolling through job listings, hoping for a miracle.

The hours slipped away as Ira scoured job sites, her hope dwindling with each passing minute. Just as she was about to give up, a peculiar ad caught her eye. It was for a personal assistant position, but the requirements were vague. The ad promised a substantial salary, enough to cover her immediate debts and then some. Desperation gnawed at her, and she decided to take a chance.

---

The next morning, Ira woke up with a sense of cautious optimism. She had sent off her application for the personal assistant job, and now all she could do was wait. She decided to take a walk to clear her head, hoping the fresh air would lift her spirits.

As she stepped out of her apartment, the city was already alive with activity. People bustled about, each seemingly with a purpose. Ira envied them, their confidence and direction. She walked aimlessly, letting her feet guide her through the familiar streets.

Her thoughts wandered back to the man she had bumped into the previous day. His arrogance had irked her, but a part of her couldn't help but wonder who he was. In a city this size, it was unlikely she'd ever see him again, but the encounter had left an impression.

Lost in her thoughts, she almost didn't notice her phone ringing. She fumbled to answer it, her heart racing when she saw it was an unknown number.

"Hello?" she answered, her voice tinged with both hope and apprehension.

"Hi, is this Ira?" a pleasant female voice asked.

"Yes, this is she."

"Great! This is Rachel from Stamford Holdings. We received your application for the personal assistant position and would like to invite you for an interview tomorrow at 10 AM."

Ira's heart leapt. "Thank you! I'll be there."

As she hung up, a wave of relief washed over her. It wasn't a job offer yet, but it was a step in the right direction. She spent the rest of the day preparing, her thoughts a mix of excitement and nervousness. She picked out her best outfit, rehearsed answers to potential interview questions, and tried to push aside the nagging voice of doubt in her mind.

---

The next morning, Ira stood outside the sleek office building of Stamford Holdings, feeling a mixture of awe and intimidation. The building was a stark contrast to her own humble apartment, exuding an air of wealth and success. Taking a deep breath, she walked inside, her footsteps echoing on the marble floor.

As she waited for her interview, her mind raced with possibilities. This job could be the lifeline she desperately needed. She couldn't afford to mess this up. When her name was finally called, she stood up, straightened her posture, and walked into the interview room with as much confidence as she could muster.

Little did she know, this interview would mark the beginning of an unexpected journey, one that would challenge her, change her, and ultimately, define her.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.
