This is the story of Alpha Jayden, the next great white of the Golden pack, and Jovita, a werewolf from the outcast Grey pack. When Jayden arrives in Foxtown on a mission to track down a fleeing vampire, Uriel, who violated the treaty by killing a human on their soil, Jayden meets his mate, Jovita. She is an outcast without her wolf at 19, an age when most werewolves have already bonded with their wolf. Despite their different backgrounds, Jayden and Jovita develop feelings for each other. As their bond strengthens, a prophecy from the moon goddess adds to the complexity of their relationship. However, their love faces numerous obstacles, including Uriel's return for revenge and the revelation of Jovita's rumoured lineage as the daughter of the moon goddess, Keturah. Will Jayden and Jovita overcome the challenges posed by Jayden's pack refusal to accept an ordinary Luna and find their way to each other, or will the obstacles and pain of their world crush their dreams?

Chapter 1 The newcomers

Jovita's POV

"He's here!" Maddie screamed in a shrill voice.

My head snapped toward the entrance door along with many others.

There had been a rumour earlier this week that there was a new Alpha in Foxtown. He relocated from Alaska due to a clash with the cold ones; he had killed one of their royals and was suspended from his pack for two moons to maintain peace.

According to the rumour, he was going to be staying in Foxtown for a while, which was my little humble town. Today was our town's annual youth meet and greet. Every young werewolf came to the town hall to meet, dine, and chat with everyone else. It was a tradition that had been upheld for years. My besties and I usually found it very boring, but not today.

"God, he is so hot!" Anna screamed.

"Cut it out!" Betty snapped at me and my two best friends, Maddie and Anna.

Betty was Maddie's distant cousin, and the Luna of the most powerful werewolf pack in Foxtown; her family was what you call royalty in the human world.

The rumour says that Betty shifted during spring break, and this had Alphas lining up and waiting, hoping the moon goddess would favour them with such a powerful Luna.

I drew my besties backwards as Betty walked forward to meet the new Alpha; the smile on her face showed that she had claimed him already.

I sighed and pulled at my friends. "Let's get back to our business already,".

Anna grumbled, making a face.

"What? You know we stand no chance next to Queen Betty", I said.

"But he hasn't chosen her, and no one said anything about him choosing her," Anna said while Maddie nodded in agreement.

"Come on, guys, it's a match ordained by the moon goddess herself. Can you ask yourself why the Alpha of a powerful pack relocates to Foxtown just when an equally powerful and stunning Luna shifts after the long wait?

"It could be just a coincidence, Jovita. Why don't you see the bright side of things?" Maddie asked with a pout.

"I guess I see the reality," I said, pushing my reluctant friends toward our classroom. "You guys stand a chance anyway, but look at me -I haven't even shifted yet". What would he want with me?"

"Everything, Jovita. Maybe he wouldn't want anything with us, but you're the most beautiful werewolf I've ever seen," Maddie said.

"Stop trying to make me feel good, Maddie.

My friends shifted last summer, the month we turned 18. Coincidentally, our birthdays fell in the same month.

According to tradition, a female werewolf shifts and also finds a mate at 18. But I was 19 already, and nothing!

Anna found her mate the month after our birthdays, while Maddie found hers three months after, and I was left alone, the unlucky and lonely werewolf.

"Jovie move", Anna said, pulling me out of the way. I turned to stare at what or who I was obstructing, and my gaze came to a lock with the new Alpha.

For a moment, I was stunned, and then a wave of excitement hit me as I realized something. I could hear his heartbeat! When a werewolf hears another werewolf's heartbeat, it means two things: they are either mates, or they are related. And in my case, the latter was the only logical explanation.

Eric, the new alpha, turned to stare at me; the look of surprise on his face showed that he could hear my heartbeat too, but then he turned back to Betty, continuing his walk like I never existed.

My besties noticed the exchange and turned to me for an explanation.

"What?" Anna said, curiosity boldly written on her face.

"I don't know; I think I heard his heartbeat.

"Woow, Anna, does that mean Jovie has found her mate? But how can that be possible? She hasn't even shifted yet.

"It happens sometimes," Maddie said. "Sometimes a werewolf fails to shift until they meet their mate, though on rare occasions. It said that the couples become an unbeatable pair.

"That's not happening, Maddie," I said. "Yeah, he probably heard my heartbeat too, but he looked away uninterested. Who wouldn't with a Luna like Betty on their arm?

"We don't choose our mates; the moon goddess does," Maddie said.

"Well, I definitely won't want a mate that won't want me, no matter how good-looking he is. Let's go back to the games, guys", I say to my friends.

During lunch, my besties and I sat around our table, talking about the latest gossip-worthy events that occurred during the summer.

I felt someone watching me, and I turned to see who it was. It was Eric. For a moment, I was flustered. I was used to guys staring at me, but this was different. Why was he staring at me now? He ignored me just a moment ago, I thought.

I tried to steady my breathing, knowing fully well that he could hear my racing heart.

Just then his gaze flickered to something else, and mine followed.

A stunning, hot, handsome guy walked towards him, and he stood up to meet him.

"OMG! Who the fuck is this hottie!" Maddie screamed. "How many surprises do we get in one day?"

All heads turned to stare at the newcomer. He was dazzling, I mean, literally dazzling. He was tall and well-built, with a shock of long ebony-black hair that fell across his shoulders, complimenting his tanned skin. The air around him spoke of authority and power.

Eric said something to him, and he turned toward my table, a slow smile spreading on his face.

"What were they talking about?" I mumbled, trying to stop my racing heartbeat.

I died on a Tuesday. It wasn't a quick death. It was slow, cold, and meticulously planned by the man who called himself my father. I was twenty years old. He needed my kidney to save my sister. The spare part for the golden child. I remember the blinding lights of the operating theater, the sterile smell of betrayal, and the phantom pain of a surgeon's scalpel carving into my flesh while my screams echoed unheard. I remember looking through the observation glass and seeing him-my father, Giovanni Vitiello, the Don of the Chicago Outfit-watching me die with the same detached expression he used when signing a death warrant. He chose her. He always chose her. And then, I woke up. Not in heaven. Not in hell. But in my own bed, a year before my scheduled execution. My body was whole, unscarred. The timeline had reset, a glitch in the cruel matrix of my existence, giving me a second chance I never asked for. This time, when my father handed me a one-way ticket to London-an exile disguised as a severance package-I didn't cry. I didn't beg. My heart, once a bleeding wound, was now a block of ice. He didn't know he was talking to a ghost. He didn't know I had already lived through his ultimate betrayal. He also didn't know that six months ago, during the city's brutal territory wars, I was the one who saved his most valuable asset. In a secret safe house, I stitched up the wounds of a blinded soldier, a man whose life hung by a thread. He never saw my face. He only knew my voice, the scent of vanilla, and the steady touch of my hands. He called me Sette. Seven. For the seven stitches I put in his shoulder. That man was Dante Moretti. The Ruthless Capo. The man my sister, Isabella, is now set to marry. She stole my story. She claimed my actions, my voice, my scent. And Dante, the man who could spot a lie from a mile away, believed the beautiful deception because he wanted it to be true. He wanted the golden girl to be his savior, not the invisible sister who was only ever good for her spare parts. So I took the ticket. In my past life, I fought them, and they silenced me on an operating table. This time, I will let them have their perfect, gilded lie. I will go to London. I will disappear. I will let Seraphina Vitiello die on that plane. But I will not be a victim. This time, I will not be the lamb led to slaughter. This time, from the shadows of my exile, I will be the one holding the match. And I will wait, with the patience of the dead, to watch their entire world burn. Because a ghost has nothing to lose, and a queen of ashes has an empire to gain.
