Billionaire Romance: Entangled Chapter 1 ROSE

Rose

My life went up in flames because of an email.

My laptop pinged with a notification, which woke me up.

I rolled over with a groan, mindlessly searching for the laptop with my hand when I hit something hard.

"Ow!" I yelled. The pain bolted me up from the bed, clutching my injured hand. Turns out that I had hit the heavy wooden figurine that Lauren loved to buy. "Fucking wood!"

I stood up, kicking the figurine in anger.

"Hey! What did my poor figurine do to you?!" Lauren, my best friend, cheerleader, and all-time favorite of mine popped her head out of the closet, running to pick up the figurine. "That's not nice."

I had to let out a small laugh. "I was the one attacked yet I'm the bad guy?"

"He's innocent!" She argued, petting the wood. I looked at her at the same time she glanced at me and we fell into laughter.

After the giggles had died down, she reached into the fridge to toss me an ice pack which I cradled to my hand.

While I was holding it, I reached over to check my laptop with

"Mike texted you yet?" Lauren asked, glancing at me.

"That's what I'm about to see!" I say excitedly, rushing to open up the laptop, and keying in my password.

The smile dropped from my face as soon as I read the headline of the mail.

My shoulders dropped in disappointment and I dramatically slumped down on the bed, covering my face with my hands.

Crap, he couldn't even be bothered?

Mike and I fought last night- one of many- which resulted in him saying some very nasty things about me. They were too hurtful so I stomped out in anger and decided to crash over at Lauren's for the night to teach him a lesson.

So here I was, like a whiny teenager sad over her first crush.

I act out of rebellion, and the person I'm doing it for couldn't even be bothered to send me a fucking message!

"That bad?" Lauren coos sympathetically, sitting on the bed to check my laptop.

The loud squeal she let out wasn't what I was expecting.

"Is this why you're sad? You should be fucking celebrating!"

I couldn't even be bothered to rouse myself up from the bed.

"Because?"

Lauren not so politely shoved my system in my face. "Because you just got a fucking job, dumbass!"

I perked up at that, my eyes lighting up in wonder. "Really?!"

I grabbed the system, scrolling through my notifications and there it was...

Holy!

A date for an interview in one of the most prestigious companies!

"Are you seeing this?!" I gasped, my eyes wide. "A job...Oh, my God! This is good news!"

"Super!" Lauren screamed, magically bringing out a bottle of champagne to pop. "We need to celebrate!"

We hugged and danced weirdly while sipping champagne out of plastic foam cups, pretending to be supermodels.

It was silly, but it was fun.

The truth is, ever since I graduated from college, it became really hard to land a good job, and since I didn't want to spend the rest of my life, waiting tables in a crappy bar, I had to put myself together.

I spent the last six months submitting resumes and application letters to various companies but as months passed by, so did my hope.

Yet, now...

I picked up my phone to call Mike, excited to share the news with him.

It rang several times. He didn't pick up.

Immediately, my mind started to wander, creating scenarios or reasons why he wasn't picking up my calls.

"Hey!" Lauren clapped her hands on my shoulders, steering me towards her. "Forget about Mike, he's probably at work. What you need to do is figure your shit out, you need to go home, get your closet sorted, and make up with your man." She tapped my cheeks. "Do you think you can do that?"

I stared into Lauren's eyes, once again reminded as to why I loved her so much. Impulsively, I hugged her. "Thank you so much, I love you."

She rubbed my back. "Ditto! Now get your ass out of here!"

Lauren slapped my ass, making me laugh. I showered, freshened up, and pulled on my clothes from last night.

Ensuring I had packed up everything I needed, I bade Lauren goodbye and made my way home.

Home was a little flat out here on North Avenue. It was old and small but it was quiet and we loved it.

Or so I thought.

Because of the layout of the house, it was quite easy to hear any and everything once you were near your apartment.

I used my key to enter, and suddenly my senses were flooded.

I could see pieces of clothing- female and male- on the couch strewn everywhere, half-eaten plates and glasses. I had this tight feeling in my chest and despite my gut reminding me that this might be a bad idea, I walked towards the bedroom.

There my greatest nightmare came to life.

The bedroom door was wide open, giving light to intimate acts going on.

Mike was spread eagle on the bed, moaning in ecstasy while a buxom, Black woman was riding him with a lot of enthusiasm.

What the hell?

Mike was long gone, lost in the clouds of pleasure...until I screamed.

I held the sides of my head and let out a piercing scream that broke through the haze of their pleasure. Mike's face drained of all color as soon as he saw me, trying to scramble off the bed.

"Rose, baby...baby, hold on...I can explain, please wait-" He came towards me but I flinched away from his touch.

"Don't t-touch m-me!" I was breathing hard, tears coming dripping down the corner of my eyes.

"You..."

I couldn't take it anymore, and I ran away, leaving behind Mike's pathetic pleas, to reach out to the one person that had my back always.

"Lauren, it's me."

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I lived as the "scarred ghost" of the Stephens penthouse, a wife kept in the shadows because my facial burns offended my billionaire husband’s aesthetic. For years, I endured Kason’s coldness and my family's abuse, a submissive puppet who believed she had nowhere else to go. The end came with a blue folder tossed onto my silk sheets. Kason’s mistress was back, and he wanted me out by sunset, offering a five-million-dollar "silence fee" to go hide my face in the countryside. The betrayal cut deep when I discovered my father had already traded my divorce for a corporate bailout. My step-sister mocked my "trashy" appearance at a high-end boutique, while the sales staff treated me like a common thief. At home, my father threatened to cut off my mother's life-saving medicine unless I crawled back to Kason to beg for a better deal. I was the girl who took the blame for a fire she didn't start, the wife who worshipped a man who never looked her in the eye, and the daughter used as a human bargaining chip. I was supposed to be broken, penniless, and desperate. But the woman who stood up wasn't the weak Elease Finch anymore; she was Phoenix, a tactical predator with a $500 million secret. I signed the divorce papers without a single tear, walked past my stunned husband, and wiped the Finch family's bank accounts clean with a few taps on my phone. "Your money is dirty," I told Kason with a cold smile. "I prefer clean hands." The cage is open, the hunt has begun, and I’m starting with the people who thought a scar made me weak.
