The Stranger's Baby Chapter 1 1

Melissa couldn't stop smiling as she sat at the back of the taxi, looking outside the window, at nothing in particular, as she was engrossed with her beautiful thoughts. Today was Zion's birthday and she was heading over to his place to surprise him. Mel had no idea why she felt so excited as though it was her birthday.

After what felt like a forever journey, Melissa arrived at her destination. She paid the taxi man and got down with three gift bags. She made her way into Zion's apartment building and took the elevator up to his floor.

She brought out a key from her purse, unlocked the door, and helped herself in.

Hardly had Mel taken five steps into Zion's apartment when she heard noises. She stopped in her tracks, the smile on her face slowly fading away. It wasn't just any noise but sounds of moans and grunts.

Melissa unconsciously let go of all three gift bags, letting them fall to the floor. They were filled with gifts for her boyfriend. She had even ordered some food and cake which should be delivered anytime soon.

Melissa shook her head, convincing herself that she heard wrongly or better still, that Zion was watching porn to ease himself and that was where the noise was coming from.

She took further steps into the apartment and came face to face with an empty living room. This time around, the noises were even clearer, hard enough to believe that it was from some device.

Tired of allowing her thoughts to mess with her mind, Mel took close steps towards Zion's room. She slowly connected her hand to the door and opened it.

She froze!

Her boyfriend of three years was on top of another woman, having the time of their lives. The duo were so engrossed with their pleasure that they had no idea that someone had walked in on them.

"Oh, yes, baby. Give it to me." The feminine voice came through and Melissa's world fell apart at the familiarity of the voice.

Trying so hard to hold back her tears, she took off one leg of her sneakers and threw it at Zion, hitting him on the back.

In fear, he stopped thrusting into the lady that was under him, and looked behind. He cursed silently, coming down from the babe he was fucking upon sighting Melissa.

That was when she saw her clearly. Zion was fucking her best friend, Kimberly. To top it all Kimberly was smirking at her.

Melissa took off her other leg of sneakers and threw it at her. Unfortunately, Kim dogged it.

"How dare you both??!!" She said at the top of her voice. She promised she wasn't going to shed any tears but she couldn't help it. She felt so much pain in her heart.

Zion put on his briefs and then approached her. "Calm down, Lisa, it's not what you think?"

"Don't you dare come near me!" She glared at him, sniffling. "Don't you have any shame? Of all the people you had to fool around with, you chose this bimbo?!" She pointed at Kim.

"You are overreacting, babe. It is really not what you think."

"Just shut the fuck up, Zion! You had your dick in her a while ago and you have the nerve to fucking look me in the eye, telling me it's not what I think?"

"W...what are you even doing here? You were meant to be at work!"

"Why? So you would have enough time to finish fucking this gold digger?"

"How long has this been going on behind me? How long?!"

"You really need to calm down. This is not as deep as it is."

"You are really justifying cheating on me? For Fuck's sake, Zion, I loved you and gave you everything and even gave up so much to be with you and this is what I get in return?" Melissa had no idea when she started hitting him on the chest, pouring all her anger on the punches.

"I'm sick of all this drama already! Just tell her." Kimberly's voice came through. She was putting on her dress which stopped right on her knee after which she came to stand by Zion.

"Wow? So this isn't a one-time thing? You have been fucking my man and acting like my very good friend at the same time?" Mel approached Kim, probably about to attack her but Zion intervened.

"Oh what now? She's your new favorite?"

"Clearly!" Kim snorted.

"Just shut your mouth. Don't intervene when I'm talking to him."

"Enough!" Zion's voice resonated in the room

"What now? It's not enough that you cheated on me, now you're supporting......" Hardly had Melissa completed her statement when a hand landed really hard across her cheek. Kimberly hit her.

Ignoring the pain, Melissa approached Kim. She was almost hitting her when Zion held her hand halfway. "Get your cheating hands off me!" She tried to struggle out of his hold.

"I'm sorry she hit you but I can't let you touch her."

Melissa had no idea where the strength came from but with all her might she wriggled out of Zion's hold and hit him instead on the cheek. "What the hell has come over you? Did this witch put you under some spell or what? Even though you disgust me right now, shouldn't you have some dignity and at least support me here?" Mel said at the top of her voice, trying so hard not to shed any tears. Most especially now that Kim was acting so evil, smirking at her because Zion was protecting her.

"Kimberly is pregnant and you might harm the baby if you both get into a fight."

Melissa froze.

"What?" At this point, the tears shamelessly rolled down her cheeks.

Zion sighed, running his fingers through his hair. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry, for what exactly? For cheating on me? With an evil being in disguise of a best friend who stabbed me in the back? Or for fucking her to the extent of getting her pregnant?"

"Please stop crying. I hate to see you like this. Can we go to the living room to talk?"

"Fuck you and every damn thing you have to say."

"I honestly thought I was with a good guy. I had no idea that you were only using me."

"For fuck's sake, Zion. We still spoke last night. You told me you loved me."

"You now know that that's a lie. There are only two people in this world that he loves. Myself and this baby."

"Enough, Kim." Zion stopped her.

"No, babe, I'm not going to keep quiet. She needs to understand that you are mine now and that she needs to stay away." Kim said, then turned her attention to Melissa.

"Zion may have called you yesterday but I give you my word that he didn't mean all that he said to you. He was probably too excited because we went to the doctors' and he gave a good report about the baby." She smirked.

"Kim!!!!!!!" Zion was starting to glare at her.

"Come on, Babe." She went ahead to intertwine her hands with him. "You know that I love and respect you so much but not when it comes to her. Someone has to put her in her place. She needs to be out of our lives."

Melissa sniffled, wiping the tears off her face with the back of her palm.

"You both definitely deserve each other and I really hope that you all rot in hell for the pain you've caused me."

"Hear me out Melissa, it's no...." Zion was saying when her hand landed across his cheek again.

"You definitely have no shame! I can't believe you are the same man that I claimed to love."

"Don't you dare raise your hand at my....." Kim was about to challenge Mel when Mel hit her in the face too. She grabbed some of Kim's hair and started pulling it. "You fucking steal my man and you are not even sorry about it?"

Zion intervened, mostly trying to free Mel from Kim. He succeeded after a while.

"You know what? You all don't even deserve my tears. I hope you both experience unbearable pain for the rest of your lives." She said, then stormed out of Zion's room.

"Mel?"

"Come on Zi. Let her go." Kim tried holding Zion back but he freed himself from her, running after Melissa, still in his briefs.

"Mel, please, hold on."

Melissa ignored. She picked up her purse from the floor and made her way towards the door. She opened it and came face to face with a delivery man who was about to press the doorbell.

"Delivery for Melissa Rue."

"Give me that!" She snatched a paper bag from him, took off the ice cream bowl from the bag, and opened it. Melissa could feel his voice as well as his presence behind her so she knew that he was right on time. She turned around and smashed the bowl of ice cream in his face.

"Asshole!" She stormed into the elevator and noticed her shoes were gone.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was the top trauma surgeon at the city’s busiest hospital until my family decided I was nothing more than a disposal fee. I stood in my father’s mahogany-lined study, staring at a two-hundred-thousand-dollar check that was meant to buy my silence and my dignity. "Sign the confession, Aurelia," my father demanded, the silver cigar cutter snapping with a violent finality. They wanted me to take the fall for a medical error I never committed, all to protect my sister Dominique’s image before her high-profile merger with the Blackburn family. When I refused to sign my life away, the betrayal turned lethal. My sister planted a priceless sapphire heirloom in my bag and called the security team to search me in front of my ex-fiancé. My mother watched with cold indifference as I was branded a thief, and my father threatened to pull the plug on my grandmother’s nursing home payments by noon if I didn't vanish. I was thrown out into a freezing rainstorm with a revoked medical license, a battered suitcase, and exactly forty-two dollars to my name. Even the man I once loved looked at me with pity, believing I had stooped to grand larceny because I was jealous of my sister’s success. I stood at a bus stop, shivering and broken, wondering how my own blood could trade my truth for a corporate PR stunt. They had taken my career, my home, and my reputation, leaving me with nothing but the clothes on my back and a burning need for justice. Desperate to protect my grandmother, I sought out the one man they all feared: Avery Blackburn, the "monster" CEO rumored to be a brain-damaged vegetable. But the man I found in the shadows of the VIP wing wasn't a victim; he was a wolf waiting for the right moment to strike. "I need a shield, and you need a wife," he rasped, sliding a titanium card across the desk. I didn't hesitate to sign the marriage certificate. The Blanchards think they’ve discarded a liability, but they’re about to find out what happens when you give a desperate surgeon a billionaire’s scalpel.
