Chapter 1 Be My Woman

DREAM COLLEGE, GREECE

The wide campus is currently decked with students who're looking proud in their blue coloured academic gowns, walking around with happy smiley faces.

It's the graduation ceremony today, and the school will be letting go of over 500 graduands.

Rosy is among the last group of students to rush into the hallway, late as usual cos of her part-time jobs.

Despite her tiredness, she was smiling as she ran all the way to the locker room, dressed in a short but fitting yellow gown and black flat shoes.

Heels aren't affordable for her. She was always in flat shoes throughout her studentship here, and wearing them today on graduation isn't a problem.

She doesn't care about what anyone thinks except Stefan her boyfriend or Olivia her bestie.

She got into the locker room and opened her wall locker hastily, bringing out her academic gown and cap.

She wore them on top of her dress, then she got a mirror to check out her face.

She might not be the very pretty type, but she's beautiful, and she knows it.

She was still checking the mirror when her phone buzzed, and the smile on her face fell when she checked to see it's a reminder from the loan sharks.

Apart from doing part-time jobs to pay for herself and Stefan, she also took loan, though she didn't tell Stefan about it.

If he can just love her till the end like he has always done, that's enough for her.

They're graduating today, and when he gets a job, they can live happily and pay the debts together.

She was still staring at the reminder when someone touched her shoulder from behind, and she jumped.

"You scared me!" She gasped when she saw it's Erica, her course mate.

They're not totally friends, they just talk randomly, but somehow, they know things about each other.

"You took a loan?" She said, and Rosy quickly hid her phone.

"You saw the reminder?" She asked slowly.

"I've been behind you since some minutes ago dummy! What do you think you're doing Rosy? Working your @ss off to pay for Stefan's fees isn't enough, and now you borrowed loan?" Erica said.

"I had to pay for our final year fees and my part time jobs were going slow. That's why I decided to take out the loan" Rosy replied.

"I wish you can hear how stupid you sound right now Rosy. Throughout your stay in this school, you only have eight blouses and four black skirts then two trousers and three gowns. You've never worn heels you're always on flat shoes and you only eat once a day, all because of Stefan. Do you trust him that much? Why are you blindly giving him all your life like this?" Erica said.

"You know nothing about us, Erica, so stop talking about Stefan that way" Rosy replied, looking angry.

"Oh sorry, I crossed my lane" Erica replied, and Rosy closed the locker.

"By the way where's he? I've not seen your bestie Olivia too" Erica said, and Rosy was about to reply when they saw students rushing on the hallway.

They exchanged glances and rushed out too. The rush was insane.

Someone is proposing!

I swear it you need to see it!

Who's proposing to who?

Just get there first and see for yourself, you won't believe it!

Is it someone unexpected?

"Wait... someone is proposing?" Erica said excitedly.

"Let's go watch!" Rosy gushed, pulling her to join the rushing students.

They ran down the hallway till they got to the stairs and climbed down to the auditorium where the proposal is happening.

A lot of students were already gathered there, rounding a circle.

Immediately they got there, all eyes turned to Rosy, and she wondered why.

"What's happening? Why are they all staring at you?" Erica muttered, and the students started making way surprisingly.

Rosy entered the circle through the way they made, only to get to the middle to meet the shock of her life.

Stefan! Her Stefan is on a knee in front of Olivia her bestie.

He's already wearing the ring in her finger, and Olivia couldn't stop smiling.

Rosy's jaws dropped, and her head banged. Sweat beads appeared on her forehead immediately, and she started feeling cold at the same time. Her throat began quivering, this is definitely a dream.

Her boyfriend and her bestie? No!

"Stefan! Olivia!" She walked up to them, and Stefan stood to face her.

"I'm sorry, Rosy. I fell in love with Olivia since our first year in this school, but if i told you, you'd definitely stop paying my fees, and that's why we had to keep our relationship a secret. Don't worry, when I get a job I'm gonna pay all the fees you payed" he smiled, and Rosy's heart fell.

Big flow of tears fell from her two eyes, and she was shaking obviously as she faced Olivia.

"H..ho..how could....

"How could I?" Olivia cut her off and came closer.

"Stefan stopped loving you since long ago, you're just too blind to see. He has always been mine, but thanks for the fees you payed though" she continued, and Rosy staggered back.

Her heart fell into muddy water, and it got trampled on in the cruellest way ever by the two people she trusts most..

How could this happen to her? How could...

"I love you" Stefan said immediately Olivia faced her.

"I love you more, Stef" Olivia replied, pulling him into a deep kiss.

What the f**k!

Looking for animals? Take those two

How could they do this!

F**k it!

That was all Rosy could take before rushing out of the circle in tears.

She was still running when the sole of her flat shoes fell off.

She has been wearing them since four years ago, maybe it's finally time for the shoes to give up.

Her feet began touching the ground as she ran, the shoes looking pitiful on her.

She fell by the door but stood immediately and continued her race out.

Erica walked into the circle when Olivia and Stefan broke the kiss, and they faced her.

"What?" Olivia covered Stefan with a smirk on her face.

"Mark my words you two, no matter how much you both struggle, you'll always go down low. Damn you both for doing this to her!" she said, and Olivia slapped her soundly.

She tried returning it, and Stefan held her hand to stop her.

"She had not more than ten clothes and just one shoe, She eats just one time daily! She walks to campus for lectures everyday just to save the taxi money, and she lives in a boxy one room apartment all cos of you, how could you!!!' Erica shouted.

She was already at the verge of tears.

"And I said I'd pay her back for everything when I get a job, stop overreacting!" Stefan pushed her, and she smirked.

"You both are worse than demons, and karma will surely catch up" she said, and Stefan grabbed Olivia's hand, taking her out of the auditorium.

Erica rushed out too, going after Rosy.

I died on a Tuesday. It wasn't a quick death. It was slow, cold, and meticulously planned by the man who called himself my father. I was twenty years old. He needed my kidney to save my sister. The spare part for the golden child. I remember the blinding lights of the operating theater, the sterile smell of betrayal, and the phantom pain of a surgeon's scalpel carving into my flesh while my screams echoed unheard. I remember looking through the observation glass and seeing him-my father, Giovanni Vitiello, the Don of the Chicago Outfit-watching me die with the same detached expression he used when signing a death warrant. He chose her. He always chose her. And then, I woke up. Not in heaven. Not in hell. But in my own bed, a year before my scheduled execution. My body was whole, unscarred. The timeline had reset, a glitch in the cruel matrix of my existence, giving me a second chance I never asked for. This time, when my father handed me a one-way ticket to London-an exile disguised as a severance package-I didn't cry. I didn't beg. My heart, once a bleeding wound, was now a block of ice. He didn't know he was talking to a ghost. He didn't know I had already lived through his ultimate betrayal. He also didn't know that six months ago, during the city's brutal territory wars, I was the one who saved his most valuable asset. In a secret safe house, I stitched up the wounds of a blinded soldier, a man whose life hung by a thread. He never saw my face. He only knew my voice, the scent of vanilla, and the steady touch of my hands. He called me Sette. Seven. For the seven stitches I put in his shoulder. That man was Dante Moretti. The Ruthless Capo. The man my sister, Isabella, is now set to marry. She stole my story. She claimed my actions, my voice, my scent. And Dante, the man who could spot a lie from a mile away, believed the beautiful deception because he wanted it to be true. He wanted the golden girl to be his savior, not the invisible sister who was only ever good for her spare parts. So I took the ticket. In my past life, I fought them, and they silenced me on an operating table. This time, I will let them have their perfect, gilded lie. I will go to London. I will disappear. I will let Seraphina Vitiello die on that plane. But I will not be a victim. This time, I will not be the lamb led to slaughter. This time, from the shadows of my exile, I will be the one holding the match. And I will wait, with the patience of the dead, to watch their entire world burn. Because a ghost has nothing to lose, and a queen of ashes has an empire to gain.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.
