Fated to love. Chapter 1 Heartbeats and hallways

"Jordan is here" Mum's voice rang out from downstairs.

My blue doe eyes widened and I took a look at myself for the umpteenth time in the large mirror in my barbie themed room.

I was dressed in a white baby tee and a purple tennis skirt with sparkling white sneakers and black transparent tights, I had tied my hair into a ponytail despite the fact it still cascaded down to my lower back.... Yeah, I had beautiful thick hair and I liked showing it off 🤭.

I put on red savvy lipstick and slung my black kitten bag on my shoulder and took a deep breath before running down the stairs.

I stopped at the bottom of stairs, my lips curving into a goofy smile as I sighted Jordan, he always seemed to have this effect on me despite the fact that we had know each other for.... 11 years, 5 days, 12 hours, 9 mins, 8...9..10....seconds. Yeah, I'm counting, it still feels like yesterday when we met and we just became best friends... Heck, some people even thought we were dating.

I liked the thought of it though, I think we even have perfect chemistry.... I'm an academic freak also 2nd hottest girl in school, not your total kinda nerd and he was ...... Just to sum it, he was a rebel and gave off bad boy vibes but girls swarm him cos he was freaking hot as hell, shame he hasn't had a girlfriend for... 11 years 😅, He didn't like girls and I didn't like girls getting close to him so we chased the girls away together. See, we made the perfect team *haha*

Suddenly snapping out of my thoughts, I looked at Jordan speaking casually to my mum in the kitchen and I couldn't help but fall for him again, damn the friendship code, I have had a crush on him for some years but it just seems a little weird cos we're best friends and he's....cold.

He looked breathtaking in his ash coloured large t-shirt and large black trousers complete with black sneakers, his brown shaggy hair fell scattered to his eyes and his cloudy gray eyes stared fixed at my mum with him occasionally flashing his signature smile that got girls drooling while drumming his fingers on the wooden table.

Shit, I just realized mum was cooking, not to be disrespectful but mum's food tastes like crap in the morning, maybe cos she was hurrying to get something ready before I leave for school but I would rather not wait to eat it.

I cleared my throat and they both spun round to face me, I took another deep breath and walked over to them

"My, my Anna...." Jordan rich voice fondly said while he clutched his chest dramatically as his eyes roved round my body which made my body tingle knowing he was checking me out

"Well?" I asked doing a little swirl with a smile plastered on my face.

"You look....... " Jordan paused before bursting into delirious laughter

" You look like your wardrobe puked on you" he yelled between fits of laughter.

I let out a breath which I didn't know I was holding and scrunched my face, how could I forget? We teased each other like crazy.

"You little piece of..." I muttered angrily as I moved menacingly towards him.

He hurriedly took a step back

"Fine, I'm sorry. Jeez, Anna. You look gorgeous" He said with a face that showed that he didn't really mean his apology

I sighed

"Sometimes, I don't get how we're still friends" I murmured

"Uhh, cos you can't bear to leave all this hotness" He joked gesturing to his face and as much as I hate to admit, he was right. He was so cute that I couldn't be angry at him.

"Let's go, wouldn't want to be late on the first day of school this new term" I said walking over to the door.

"I don't even want to go to school " Jordan whined

"BRIANNA, GRAB SOME FOOD BEFORE YOU GO" My mum shouted from the kitchen

I gave Jordan a pleading look

"UMMMM, NO WORRIES. WE'RE LATE MISS WILSON, WE'LL BUY SOMETHING AT LUNCH. HAVE A NICE DAY" Jordan called back to which my mum muttered something incoherent about how I always skipped breakfast.

I mouthed a thank you to Jordan and rushed out of the house where his car was parked. I'll admit it he was goddamn rich, his parents were multi millionaires but they died in a car crash when he was 6 years old, I met him when he was 8 years old though. He's living on his parents money but he doesn't live extravagantly and no, I wasn't from a middle class family, we were also rich, we lived in the best estate in California, I lost my dad when I was 2 years old but we got by.

Jordan got into his black Audi Q3 after me and drove off. Starrise high was the best school in California owned by Mr Ethan who is the richest man in California and also the owner of the estate.

Jordan hummed silently as he drove while I stared out the window.

"Anna, I'll be waiting for a basketball game with the guys, will you catch the bus or you'll wait for me to drive you home?" He asked maneuvering the car round a sharp bend.

"I'll wait, I have an after school meeting with some students so I'll just wait" I said.

"Great" He muttered

As soon as we got to the school parking lot, Jordan switched off the ignition and got down and opened the door for me. So sweet, this is the reason why people thought we were dating despite both of denying it, we behaved like a sweet couple.

🗣️ They're here

🗣️OMG, Jordan is using a new cologne

🗣️ How'd you know?

🗣️He smells heavenly

🗣️ Brianna, is that the latest collection of shirt from prada

🗣️ Her clothes are from Versace, those things are hard to get. I'm jealous

People kept gossiping and taking not so discreet photos as we walked into the school main building

🗣️ MAKE WAY, THE KING AND QUEEN OF STARRISE ARE HERE.

People started making way for us to pass and for some reason I could never get used to the attention. It was ..... Uncomfortable but I couldn't help it, I was Kid A which means I'm an all-rounder and I'm good at everything which is why we get so much attention. Typical high school

"BRIANNA TRISHA WILSON" A voice sounded behind me making me stiffen

Gawd no, not on my first day of school this term

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.
