A successful businesswoman named Danielle had to finally decide to get married due to her mother's pressure, which led to a passionate fling with a lifeguard. However, the relationship was short-lived because she felt he wasn't worthy of her status. On one online date, she met a grumpy billionaire named Harrison who would give her a new version of married life after she discovered a dark secret about him.

Chapter 1 Danielle's Mom

When you look at the beautiful morning from the sun rays peeking through your window in a mansion, you'll know that someone wealthy lives on this island. Danielle is a beautiful woman who's full of energy and friendly with almost everyone around her.

She owns a clothing company that she started from scratch in her college days. Now, she has expanded her business and ships her products to customers overseas. It was an amazing feat and a breakthrough from poverty.

She's in her late twenties and all her childhood friends envied her achievement. Every day was like a shower of blessings as her business kept growing geometrically. However, she always felt bad because she had no man in her life.

Whenever her parents reminded her of not being married, she would always give them excuses for focusing on her business. The pressure was mostly coming from her mother who couldn't take it anymore.

"Danielle, what's the meaning of this? Do you think you're getting any younger? Time flies quickly my dear or are you a lesbian?" said her mother.

Danielle felt overwhelmed and regretted why she visited her parents again. As the only daughter, it was quite understandable why her mother was on her neck. She almost lost her appetite as she dropped the spoon on the table. The spaghetti with meatballs, although sumptuous, started giving her a foul odor due to her mother's action.

"I'm talking to you so I demand an answer. What are you thinking of?" Her mother interrupted her thoughts.

"Mom, I'm just twenty-eight. I can choose to get married at thirty. You make it seem like I'm in my late forties." Danielle responded in a disappointed tone.

Meanwhile, her father kept eating and tried to change the discussion to relieve tension in the house.

"My daughter, how is business going? Hope your profit increases daily?"

Danielle's face lit up and she said, "Business is going well. My competitors are behind my company and I've developed strategies to make my employees enjoy working with me. I can't wait to be the richest woman in the....."

"With this mentality of yours, you might never have an interest in getting married. Who do you think will inherit all the wealth you have amassed? Do you want to donate your properties to the orphanage homes and give everything to charity? Do you want to cut our race? If I didn't give birth to you, you wouldn't be this dreamy so just get a man and let me have peace." Her mother countered.

At that point, Danielle remembered what her therapist told her during tense scenarios like this. So she slowly inhaled and exhaled and she tried as much as possible to calm her mother.

"I have heard you, Mother. I'll try to get into one or two dates so I can find an ideal spouse."

"Are you sure? Hope this isn't one of your games to make me calm. I need feedback from you as soon as possible," said her mother.

"Don't you think you're rushing our daughter? Don't let her fall into the wrong hands and regret it for the rest of her life. You know she's wealthy so finding a true spouse that will love her without taking advantage of her wealth might be difficult," Danielle's father countered.

"That's not a problem. If she's scared of falling into the hands of a gold digger, she can marry a guy from a wealthy home. As long as he treats her well, she's good to go," Danielle's mother responded.

"Don't worry Mom and Dad, I promise not to fall into the wrong hands. If I can be a successful businesswoman, a relationship is something so small for me to build. Besides, I can break up with him if he misbehaves," said Danielle as she raised her left eyebrow with a smile.

"Okay, so do you plan to sleep here tonight or will you be going to your place?" Her dad asked.

"No, I don't have to sleep here tonight because....." Then she came close to her father to whisper the complete sentence in his ear. "I can't stay here tonight because I'm very sure my mother will bring up this marriage issue again."

Her mother's eyes were filled with disgust because she knew what was going on between them. Danielle and her dad were very close and sometimes they made fun of her mother.

Then they both laughed and Danielle picked up her bag so she could go to her house. She doesn't live close to her parents, however, she bought them a very expensive home in the best place in the city. They had staff that took care of them and they never lacked anything money could buy.

As she was about to go, her mother kissed her forehead, bid her farewell, and reminded her of their discussion.

"If you take my discussion with you lightly, I'll divorce your father because it seems he is the one who is behind your love affair." Danielle's mom threatened.

Then Danielle and her dad laughed out loud for seconds that seemed like a minute.

"Do you think this is funny? Don't worry. Wait till you see me in action then you'll advise your daughter to get a man," said Danielle's mom.

"So you will divorce Dad if I don't get a man soon. Wow!!! Mom, you know your joy means the world to me and I'll never want to see you sad," said Danielle.

She earned a hug from her mother at that instant from those sweet words.

"I didn't mean it when I said I would divorce your dad. I just want you to know that there's joy in being in a relationship. Don't you envy me and your dad? We're happy forever after and I want you to experience it too. I hope that you'll find a man like your dad who will love you with all his heart. Don't think I'm just desperate, I want the best for you," said Danielle's mom as she kissed her daughter's chin and bid her farewell.

"Wait, before you go, I want you to trust your gut. Know that for anything you experience in a relationship, we are always here for you," said Danielle's dad as he strolled with her till she entered her car and drove away.
