Verena attended her ex-boyfriend's engagement party, got drunk, and hooked up with his brother just to get back at him. Jeffrey was naturally an aloof young man, but he found Verena irresistible. They decided to be friends with benefits. There was supposed to be no strings attached, but when Jeffery saw other men around her, he lost it. Verena also began catching feelings for him. Just when she thought they could be in a relationship for real, his first love came into the picture. Jeffrey soon ended things with her, which she calmly accepted. She moved on with her life. However, at her engagement party, Jeffrey appeared out of nowhere and declared, "Verena, how can you marry someone else? You are mine!" "It's too late," Verena said with a soft smile. But Jeffrey wasn't going to let her go just like that...

Chapter 1 Engagement Party

Verena Wheeler found herself in a challenging situation when she attended her boyfriend Blaine Yates's engagement party, only to discover that she was not the intended fiancee.

Despite the awkwardness, Blaine seemed unperturbed and even raised a toast to Verena upon her arrival.

In a moment of frustration, Verena resorted to drowning her sorrows in alcohol and ended up wrapping her arms around the waist of Blaine's brother, Jeffrey Yates.

"Are you certain you want to kiss me? Do you realize who I am?" Jeffrey asked.

Despite her intoxicated state, Verena couldn't help but find Jeffrey captivating. With misty eyes, she acknowledged his attractive features and enchanting voice, making it difficult for her to resist.

As she looked up at Jeffrey, Verena declared, "I can see you clearly. You are Blaine's brother, Jeffrey!"

Jeffrey held a significant position as the president of SwiftGlide International, a key player in the southern economy.

"Are you certain you still want to kiss me?" Jeffrey inquired in a magnetic and hoarse voice, his expression squinted in contemplation.

Verena playfully traced the contours of his Adam's apple, a move she had picked up from a video tutorial.

"Yes, I have my hands on your waist. Don't you feel the tension? Are you impotent?"

Verena reasoned that if Blaine could become engaged to another woman, then why couldn't she explore intimate encounters with someone else?

Men were never immune to such situations, especially considering her appealing features-a sweet face coupled with a voluptuous figure.

In the midst of the warm and charged atmosphere, Jeffrey found himself surprisingly aroused, despite not being inherently promiscuous.

"I think I should show you whether I'm impotent or not." Jeffrey leaned in and passionately kissed Verena.

The intensity of their kiss persisted as they made their way to the car.

Inside the car, the intensity grew even more profound, bringing them to the brink of sexual release.

However, the influence of alcohol led Verena to inadvertently disclose her true intentions.

"If I can't be your wife, then I can be your sister-in-law!" she declared with a hint of mischief.

Her revelation abruptly halted Jeffrey's advances.

After a moment of contemplation, he leaned against the driver's seat and lit a cigarette. Arching an eyebrow, he questioned, "So, are you seeking revenge by throwing yourself at me?"

Verena, feeling the weight of the awkwardness, found herself almost sobering up.

Yet, instead of attempting to defend herself, she opted for a lighthearted response. "Will you be my accomplice in this endeavor?"

"No ties between us, don't even think about it!" Jeffrey playfully pinched her cheek and curtly ordered, "Step out of the car."

Verena had anticipated such a response. After all, Jeffrey was the coveted match for numerous young women from esteemed families, and others sought him solely for carnal pursuits.

Verena, she acknowledged, was inconsequential in his world.

As she awkwardly exited the car, the silver-gray Maserati swiftly departed, leaving a trail of dust lingering in her mouth.

This abrupt dismissal brought Verena back to sobriety, making her realize the impropriety of her actions.

Blaine, her current lover, stood between her and Jeffrey, and the close call she just had with his brother was quite ludicrous.

Fortuitously, Verena considered herself spared from any further interaction with Jeffrey.

Yet, fate had other plans, as she unexpectedly crossed paths with him again the very next day.

In that moment, Verena found herself immersed in a social event for the Oasis Group's new project. The effects of alcohol had left her in a state of inebriation, and she was unexpectedly pulled into an elevator by none other than Jackson Hopkins, the head of Dukwoo Company.

"Mr. Hopkins, I really can't handle any more drinks," Verena slurred, her voice soft and disoriented.

"It's fine. Join us at the nightclub and watch us drink our hearts out. Ms. Wheeler, do it as a small favor for me?"

Jackson's gaze lingered on her attractive visage and her inviting figure which was draped in a pearly pink dress that accentuated her curves.

Verena felt a discomforting intensity in Jackson's eyes and longed for a swift escape.

Just then, Jeffrey and a cadre of entrepreneurs stepped into the elevator.

Jeffrey scanned the scene casually, leaving Verena unsure if he had spotted her.

Instinctively, she lowered her head, desperately avoiding Jeffrey's attention.

Fortunately, Jeffrey seemed oblivious to her presence. While the entrepreneurs engaged in warm banter, Jeffrey maintained a chilly demeanor, offering only a few curt words.

"The lady is quite the looker. I've heard whispers of her stellar educational background."

"It doesn't matter what we think. It all hinges on Mr. Yates' opinion. Clearly, she's here for him."

Eavesdropping with keen interest, Verena discreetly cast a glance in Jeffrey's direction.

Unintentionally, their eyes locked.

"If I sleep around, I might fall ill."

Jeffrey regarded Verena impassively, his gaze lingering just briefly before diverting away.

"Exactly. Mr. Yates can have his pick of any woman. Why choose someone random with no background?"

"Let's make sure these women don't dampen Mr. Yates' spirits at future dinners."

The entrepreneurs echoed Jeffrey's sentiments while Verena was visibly disconcerted.

A sense lingered within her that Jeffrey's recent words had been a pointed jab in her direction.

Just then, the elevator doors slid open.

Jackson placed a hand on Verena's shoulder, uttering, "Excuse us, please."

However, her response was swift, shaking off his touch like a startled bird.

"Don't act like this. Show some respect," Verena said to Jackson.

She feared both being exploited and the watchful eyes of Jeffrey, who might misconstrue her as someone who got around.

Undeterred, Jackson dismissed her concerns and continued to drape his arm around her shoulder.

"You agreed moments ago. What's with the sudden change of heart?" he exclaimed.

In that moment, his grip tightened, rendering Verena unable to shake him off.

As he attempted to lead her into the nightclub, a wave of despair washed over her. Just when all seemed lost, an unexpected force wrapped around her waist, pulling her into sturdy arms.

A frigid voice resonated from above her head, cutting through the chaos.

"She asked you to show some respect. Didn't you hear her?"

"Let's get married," Mia declares, her voice trembling despite her defiant gaze into Stefan's guarded brown eyes. She needs this, even if he seems untouchable. Stefan raises a skeptical brow. "And why would I do that?" His voice was low, like a warning, and it made her shiver even though she tried not to show it. "We both have one thing in common," Mia continues, her gaze unwavering. "Shitty fathers. They want to take what's ours and give it to who they think deserves it." A pointed pause hangs in the air. "The only difference between us is that you're an illegitimate child, and I'm not." Stefan studies her, the heiress in her designer armor, the fire in her eyes that matches the burn of his own rage. "That's your solution? A wedding band as a weapon?" He said ignoring the part where she just referred to him as an illegitimate child. "The only weapon they won't see coming." She steps closer, close enough for him to catch the scent of her perfume, gunpowder and jasmine. "Our fathers stole our birthrights. The sole reason they betrayed us. We join forces, create our own empire that'll bring down theirs." A beat of silence. Then, Stefan's mouth curves into something sharp. "One condition," he murmurs, closing the distance. "No divorces. No surrenders. If we're doing this, it's for life" "Deal" Mia said without missing a beat. Her father wants to destroy her life. She wouldn't give him the pleasure, she would destroy her life as she seems fit. ................ Two shattered heirs. One deadly vow. A marriage built on revenge. Mia Meyers was born to rule her father's empire (so she thought), until he named his bastard son heir instead. Stefan Sterling knows the sting of betrayal too. His father discarded him like trash. Now the rivals' disgraced children have a poisonous proposal: Marry for vengeance. Crush their fathers' legacies. Never speak of divorce. Whoever cracks first loses everything. Can these two rivals, united by their vengeful hearts, pull off a marriage of convenience to reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs? Or will their fathers' animosity, and their own complicated pasts tear their fragile alliance apart?

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

I spent four hours preparing a five-course meal for our fifth anniversary. When Jackson finally walked into the penthouse an hour late, he didn't even look at the table. He just dropped a thick Manila envelope in front of me and told me he was done. He said his stepsister, Davida, was getting worse and needed "stability." I wasn't his wife; I was a placeholder, a temporary fix he used until the woman he actually loved was ready to take my place. Jackson didn't just want a divorce; he wanted to erase me. He called me a "proprietary asset," claiming that every design I had created to save his empire belonged to him. He froze my bank accounts, cut off my phone, and told me I’d be nothing without his name. Davida even called me from her hospital bed to flaunt the family heirloom ring Jackson claimed was lost, mocking me for being "baggage" that was finally being cleared out. I stood in our empty home, realizing I had spent five years being a martyr for a man who saw me as a transaction. I couldn't understand how he could be so blind to the monster he was protecting, or how he could discard me so coldly after I had given him everything. I grabbed my hidden sketchbook, shredded our wedding portrait, and walked out into the rain. I dialed a number I hadn't touched in years—a dangerous man known as The Surgeon who dealt in debts and shadows. I told him I was ready to pay his price. Jackson and Davida wanted to steal my identity, but I was about to show the world the literal scars they had left behind.

For four years, I traced the bullet scar on Chace’s chest, believing it was proof he would bleed to keep me safe. On our anniversary, he told me to wear white because "tonight changes everything." I walked into the gala thinking I was getting a ring. Instead, I stood frozen in the center of the ballroom, drowning in silk, watching him slide his mother's sapphire onto another woman's finger. Karyn Warren. The daughter of a rival family. When I begged him with my eyes to claim me, to save me from the public humiliation, he didn't flinch. He just leaned toward his Underboss, his voice amplified by the silence. "Karyn is for power. Ember is for pleasure. Don't confuse the assets." My heart didn't just break; it incinerated. He expected me to stay as his mistress, threatening to dig up my dead mother’s grave if I refused to play the obedient pet. He thought I was trapped. He thought I had nowhere to go because of my father’s massive gambling debts. He was wrong. With shaking hands, I pulled out my phone and texted the one name I was never supposed to use. Keith Mosley. The Don. The monster under Chace's bed. *I am invoking the Blood Oath. My father’s debt. I am ready to pay it.* His reply came three seconds later, buzzing against my palm like a warning. *The price is marriage. You belong to me. Yes or No?* I looked up at Chace, who was laughing with his new fiancée, thinking he owned me. I looked down and typed three letters. *Yes.*
