Alpha's Rejected Daughter Chapter 1 Fell into a deadlock (1)

Sharmaine's POV

Today's class was boring. The old teacher was usually very enthusiastic about teaching but now seemed impatient for something. Every few minutes, he looked at his watch.

The atmosphere in the classroom was extremely gloomy. No one was listening to the lecture; a few people were lying on the table to sleep, and others were on the phone or something like that. The whispers of a group of people huddled together to discuss the ongoing war. The tumultuous chatter drowned out the teacher's lecture.

An empty can suddenly fly into my head, accompanied by an excited voice, "Bingo!"

The mocking laugh followed it. Even without looking up, I knew who that person was. Drake, the leader of a group that bullies me.

They hate me just because I'm not like them; I'm not originally a member of Dead Forest. I joined because my mother married Alpha David. Even though she has become the new Luna of the Pack, she is not respected, and neither am I. Since the first day I came here, I have suffered from their cruel jokes, but when I brought it to my mother, she told me to be patient. I went from being a lively girl to being reserved and quiet just because I didn't want to cause trouble for my mother.

"Don't tease Sharmaine!" The old teacher spoke up.

I know he's just speaking out of respect because even if my bullies do more outrageous things, he won't blame them.

The bullies ignore the teacher's words. They laughed even louder and continued their cruel joke by throwing rolls of paper or trash at me.

I clenched my fist, and the empty can in my hand became distorted. Before my anger flared up, causing me to do something crazy, the sudden sound of the school's loudspeakers stopped all activities in the classroom.

"EMERGENCY NOTICE! All teachers and students quickly dispersed. Ask everyone to return home quickly and not wander the streets because the war situation has taken a turn for the worse. Red Ocean's army is moving towards the center of the Pack."

The message is replayed three times. Immediately after that, everyone became agitated. Drake and my bullies can no longer laugh and joke around. Their faces became extremely worried and bewildered. Their speed of packing up and running out of their class was as fast as rockets.

Soon, the classroom became empty, leaving me alone.

I slowly packed up my things and leisurely left.

On the way home from school, I found the atmosphere so quiet and lonely that it was suffocating. The road is always crowded with cars and people passing by; now, it has become deserted, without a shadow of people.

Contrary to my calm face on the outside, I was terrified on the inside. The war had only begun two months ago. I didn't expect Dead Forest to lose so quickly. It happened so suddenly that I couldn't adapt in time.

Going from afar, I saw many soldiers standing in front of my house. They seem to be waiting for something. I felt surprise mixed with a little bit of anxiety in my heart.

Previously, I lived in Alpha David's villa with him and my mother, but because Alpha David and I didn't get along four years ago, I moved out. I haven't seen him and his mother for a long time. My mom and I usually talk on the phone.

I don't know why those soldiers came looking for me. Several possibilities popped into my head; my steps slowed down.

While I was still thinking, those soldiers saw me. Two of them ran towards me.

"Alpha David invites you to his mansion. He said that he is not sure when you are outside. You'll be safer in Alpha's mansion." The soldier spoke in an urgent tone.

I pursed my lips, thought momentarily, and then replied, "I don't want to go there. Please tell Alpha I will stay home, close the door, and not go out, so there is no need to worry about me."

I remember the days of living in the same house with Alpha David; the atmosphere between us was always dark and stuffy. So I don't want to go to his mansion. I wouldn't be comfortable going there.

"No! You have no right to object. That is the command. Do you want to cooperate with us, or will we use force to take you away?" The soldier said seriously.

I feel that I am not Alpha's daughter but a criminal in this soldier's eyes. I panicked and took a step back. I said, "I'll call Alpha. You wait for me a bit."

I was about to take out my smartphone from my backpack to call Alpha David, but before I could, the soldier beside me said, "Don't trifle away our time! Catch her!"

I panicked, and two soldiers grabbed my hands before I could react. They easily lifted me. I tried to struggle and scream but to no avail. In the end, I was crammed into the car.

I talked to the soldiers on the way, but no one answered me. Their faces darkened; some of them looked at me with disdain and disgust. I'm used to those eyes, so I don't feel angry; I'm just worried about being kidnapped.

My worries disappeared when the car actually stopped in front of Alpha David's mansion. I breathed a sigh of relief in my heart. Although facing Alpha David made me uncomfortable, it was still better than being kidnapped.

I obediently entered the mansion; the soldiers were still following behind me as if they were afraid that I would suddenly run away. I don't understand why they act so weird.

"Mom!" I called out loudly. I think my mother is here right now.

My response is silence. A soldier behind me said, "Alpha invites you to his study to talk."

I was bewildered, unsure of Alpha David's intentions, but I had a bad feeling in my heart. I faltered, turning to run away, but behind me were four strong soldiers.

Their faces were ferocious, looking at me with stormy eyes. They urged me to hurry to David's study.

In my heart, I didn't want to, but there was no way to resist these soldiers.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.

Six years ago, I was a naive girl sold by my father to the powerful Sanders estate, only to be tossed onto the streets after a brutal assault they labeled "marital infidelity." I fled the country pregnant and broken, hiding from the shadow of a husband I had never even met. Now, I’ve returned to New York with my triplets to sign the final divorce papers and disappear forever. But Archibald Sanders—the man I was told was a crippled recluse—intercepted us with the cold precision of a predator. He didn't see the woman his family destroyed; he saw a gold-digger who had shamed his name. His security team hunted us to a grimy motel, using tactical force to snatch my children away and drag me to his glass-walled empire. In his office, he loomed over me, demanding a DNA test and threatening to throw me in prison while my babies were lost to the foster system. He was convinced I’d cheated, yet he stared at my sons with a haunting confusion, unable to ignore the stormy blue eyes that were a perfect mirror of his own. I stood there, paralyzed by his scent—the sharp tang of rain and expensive leather that triggered the icy dread of my worst nightmares. How could he accuse me of betrayal when he felt exactly like the monster who had shattered my life in that dark hotel room? "I'll sign anything," I sobbed, "just give me my kids." But the game changed when my five-year-old son hacked the tower’s security, holding the skyscraper hostage to save me. In the chaos, a fragile, silent boy—Archibald’s secret son—wandered into the room and reached for me as if I were his missing soul. Archibald’s face turned to stone as he tore up the agreement and locked the doors. "Until I find out why my son is looking at you like that," he growled, "you aren't going anywhere."

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

SHANA GRAY

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
