The Alpha King's Mate is Strange! Chapter 1 Can't stay here

"Let go of me!!!" She screamed at the top of her lungs while slapping his back in anger. Her light face turned crimson because the way he carried her was improper.

She was being ushered out of the throne hall like a sack of grains.

The two large guards bowed their heads to the sovereign King that approached the exit. They opened the door, keeping their heads bowed.

The air around him turned chilly, it was enough to make gooseflesh appear on her skin. But she ignored it and continued screaming. She didn't care if she looked bad to the Alphas of different packs.

As he stepped into the hallways crowded by servants dallying, all heads bowed after seeing him from afar. They dared not refute him but they couldn't help feeling happy seeing the obstinate Queen being treated that manner.

Seeing the expression on their Alpha's face, they knew she did something. And she definitely overdid it.

[Pffft! What did she do this time around?] One of the servants slapped her duster together while sending knowing looks to the others.

They dared not speak out knowing the King had sharp ears. So they used the mind-link to communicate.

[Who knows? Ask for a petition to free the slave trade of humans? Such impossible fit!] Another responded and her laughter resounded in the heads of the others hearing their conversations.

[I like her, she's so considerate.] Another servant said, her misty eyes looking thoughtful as they watched the King's silhouette become smaller as the distance increased.

[Yeah, that was because she managed to bewitch you into thinking she's the better person here, Tanya. Funny how she dares to think she's as equal as everyone in Lycaria. Pity!] A silver-blonde maid batted her lashes, her dark eyes gleaming with happiness as she continued working.

The woman who was being addressed as the bewitched Omega rolled her eyes at her statement. They just wouldn't get the Queen. She was so free-spirited, she was adventurous and questioned everything about their world.

They thought she was insane ever since she woke up from her coma some weeks ago. That was because the Queen spoke so loud and practiced outrageous dance moves in public.

What was worse, she dared to drug the Lycans guarding her chamber just to escape. But still, she couldn't escape her husband.

'Sigh... I hope she doesn't get into much trouble.' the maid named Tanya could only sigh before returning to her work.

...

"Let go of me!!" She screamed and he finally hearkened to her words. But the look on his face was enough to make her keep shut.

'Uh-oh! He's so mad... Extremely mad!' She learned in her thought, while assessing his gorgeous features turn dark by the seconds.

"What was the meaning of that?" His ruthless voice rolled out of his mouth, resonating in her chambers.

Selena scoffed and threw her head to the side. She rolled her eyes skyward and slanted her head as she returned her gaze to him.

"Meaning of what?" She raised a brow, as though she forgot the havoc she caused in the throne hall minutes ago.

"You have no right to speak when Alphas speak up. You have no right to question an Alpha. You know nothing!" His jaw ticked as he grabbed her shoulders.

Selena's fiery-red brows creased into a frown while she met his cold gaze without fear in her eyes. She didn't know why his words made her rile up.

What was up with every f**ked up rule in this place?

'I never even begged to have a second chance to live! I didn't beg to have to live this kind of life! What's up with being told to keep shut while these beasts keep acting as the superiors!' she inquired in her mind, but her gaze never left his face.

"Wrong! I have a right, as much as I'm a living being with a big mouth. I have opinions. Positions don't matter to me, take it or leave it, Your MAJESTY!" Though her voice was calm, there was an intensity and weight it placed on the Alpha.

She had no right speaking to him in that manner. In as much as he married her to keep her with him so he could get what he want, she shouldn't question his actions or his words. It was pissing him off, seriously.

"That big mouth you have would land you and your fellow humans in your graves, Queen Selena!" His grip on her arms tightened.

Selena knew it might leave a little bruise but she wasn't giving up. Instead, she matched his own intensity with an inferno that started to build up in her unique eyes.

"It's better than having to live under the rule where they are used as bargaining chips to save your f**king kingdom!" This time she screamed, and her eyes started to water.

Selena knew how it felt to be trafficked. Infact, she was saved from human trafficking before gaining fame as a popular celebrity.

Selena grimaced at the thought of watching young ladies serve the Alphas as a form of entertainment.

The King's expression turned more glacial. Chilly aura surrounded him, hearing the way she spoke of his Kingdom. He didn't know when it happened but his large hand went to her throat.

He grabbed it tight before lifting her up from the floor a little.

Selena got scared as she felt the pressure on her wind pipe. She couldn't breathe, and felt her face burning hot. Her sight got clouded with tears, while she struggled to breathe.

"You will not address my Kingdom like that." He spoke through gritted teeth as his grip on her neck tightened.

His pheromones could be felt over the place, and any Lycan who sensed it would know it was dangerous to walk into the chamber that moment.

Selena felt like her soul was about to leave her body because to her, he was insane. She knew Lycanthropes were highly territorial, but she didn't think he would be this obsessed with his kingdom.

And at the expense of taking her life because she badmouthed it.

It was then she knew she had to escape this castle. At all cost!

Her hands were clawing helplessly at his large hand still latched tightly on her throat. He was almost crushing her windpipe.

Tears kept streaming down the corner of her eyes while she struggled to breathe.

Ryker's grip on her neck loosened and she dropped down on her knees, a thud resonating in the room.

The King walked away from the chamber immediately, because he felt like going on a killing spree. He surely couldn't kill her now until he got what he wanted.

As soon as he left, she coughed out and her hands went to her slender throat. Just those words and she was not far from the afterlife.

"This is all crazy! You all are crazy!!" She almost yelled, but the friction his grip caused on her throat made her voice sound crispy and coarse.

Ignoring the pain that swam up from her knees, and the aftermath of having to be held on chokehold, she scrambled to get herself up.

'I won't let myself get trampled upon in this beastly world! I won't let my rights be taken from me at the expense of surviving death!' her inner voice stated in her head.

Standing upright, her breathing still laborious. She muttered under her breath.

"I have to find a way to return! I can't stay here..."

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancé, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband's Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn't find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn't even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father's legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn's party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara's health and managing every detail of Caden's empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I'd drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause-if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I'd forgotten.
