Chapter 1 Prologue

Isabella watches, her expression gives nothing away, but her heart is hammering in her rib cage , "so, he is a boxer. An alpha-" Her mother stops her, "a pure blooded alpha." She grits his teeth, "right." "So, he is a boxer," Bella starts again, "that's his job." Her mother nods, grins wide, "for now. He is to take over his family business.

He is unbeatable." Amelia her best friend turned sister hides her face in her palms, "so this marriage," she coughs to break the tension between mother and daughter , "he knows and agreed to it?" Isabella prays to whoever is listening for the answer to be negative. "Yes." "He knows I am a singer right ?" Isabella leans against the chair, "knows about my career?" Her mother nods again, "his family find you very suitable for him." Isabella would curse, but her mother will probably still ground her , "I see," she stares at Amelia. Amelia looks like she is in pain for her, Isabella knows her face shows the exact emotion, she sighs and asks "when can I meet him?" Her mother smiles, "I gave him your number. He will call you." Isabella snaps, "you gave away my number to a random stranger?!" Her mother frowns, "he is your fiancé?!" Isabella bites back a curse, rubs her temple, "so do I at least have the last say in this?" His mother's face twitches, "o-of course. Your father prefers him, though." Isabella knows what that means. She glares at her mother. Her mother stares back at her as if she doesn't know what is going on" "I will take her away now," Amelia tugs at her friend and smiles widely at Isabella's mother, "she has a photoshoot.she will call you, aunty." She nods, sips her tea that is Bella hopes she chokes on, "sure, my dear Amelia. Remind her to call soon! She never calls home or comes home unless we call her" Isabella keeps glaring at her on her way out. "Tell me this is the most terrible hour of your life!" Bella hisses, leaning against the elevator, "Tell me I am not freaking out for nothing!" "Amelia, they arranged my marriage without asking me to tell me I'm dreaming!" Amelia leans on the wall, "my life aside, this is a situation you need to handle very maturely. So, stop panicking!" "I am going to throw up," Isabella throws her hands up in frustration, glaring at her friend, "Pureblood alpha, lia! He is a pure blood alpha. He will be so prudish. Would never understand my choices or care for them just like everyone in my family I don't need this right now! Oh, My God!" "First of , you need to calm down!" Amelia hisses, grabbing at her hands, "we will find a way. You can ask Oliver and you two can decide-" Isabella blinks, "I am dating! Oh, my God, I forgot that I am dating!" Amelia stares at her friend, "Girl? you... forgot that you are dating?" Bella waves her off, "I will just talk to the alpha and tell him to go away." Amelia rubs at her temple as they walk out of the elevator, "just be nice. Don't bring trouble on yourself." Isabella shrugs, "Whatever. This wedding is not happening. I am not letting it!".

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."
