Ghost friend Chapter 1 New school, new life

Los Angeles, California..

6:00am...

The Adams residence...

"Wake up Bobby, it's time for school". A middle-aged man said, knocking on his son's room door in order to make him get out of bed.

The teenager turned on his bed, rolling over whilst using his pillow to cover his ears.

After successfully muffling the annoying sound that came from the several knocks, he sighed in relief and tried closing his eyes to continue his sleep.

"Bobby, Bobby, open up buddy". His father called out again, still knocking but he played deaf ears.

He tried the handle of the door but it was locked, then he rummaged through his coat's pocket and took out a bunch of keys.

After a few clinks, the door was opened and he went in.

"Dad...". Bobby Adams groaned as he sat upright and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I should've hidden those spare keys from you". He murmured, searching for his glasses on his bedside table.

"Rise and shine bud, it's a new day and your first day at your new school remember?". Mr Adams said.

"I'm not resuming in that school, I demand a change of school". Bobby mumbled, putting on his glasses.

"Why not? It's one of the best schools in L.A, I promise it's better than your previous school". His dad reassured.

"You also bragged about it before I got in...now I'm being transferred because it sucks". He rolled his eyes.

"I'm really sure about this one....it's perfect".

"I'm not sure...what if the students won't like me? What if I don't make any friends...I mean who would be friends with a guy like me? I'm boring..I'm a geek! That's what kids at my former school call me...it felt so lonely". He lowered his head.

"You are gonna make amazing friends, I promise...you're amazing yourself".

"The kids at my former school didn't think like that....to them, I'm a weirdo..a..a freak!".

"Who cares what they think anyway? To me, you're my amazing Bob". His dad said with a smile.

Then his countenance changed to a sad one.

"I might not be a good comforter like your mom, but just know I want the best for you...".

He cringed at the mention of his mother and sighed.

"I miss her".

"Yeah, me too Bob". His dad touched his shoulder and squeezed lightly.

"I'm sure she also wants the best for you".

"Go to school, not because of some spoilt kids who don't want or value success in their lives. Go to school because of you...when you become great, those same kids will be looking up to you". His dad said, then patted his shoulder before leaving the room.

"I'm off to work, you should prepare breakfast and eat before leaving the house okay?".

"Sure". Bobby murmured.

South Central High was as epic as they said it is.

Bobby stood, as he took a good view of the huge, fancy buildings.

Students were trooping in and out of the school.

The school environment itself was very neat and beautiful.

It was a school for the rich, classy kids and it was famous for its beautiful nature and academic progress.

School for the pros as it was nicknamed by all other teenagers who wished to be one of the students of SCHS.

Exhaling deeply, Bobby squinted his eyes as he looked to the top of the building in front of him, protecting his poor eyes from the morning sun.

Then he pushed his glasses down the bridge of his nose, ready to head in.

"Here goes nothing". He puffed out some air from his mouth, fighting against anxiety.

He dreaded the school like nothing else.

In the negative aspect, the school was also famous for having notorious bullies.

After he was cleared from the registration office, he walked down the hall to find his new assigned locker.

He didn't expect the atmosphere to be as dull as it was but then, he pushed on .

He also noticed the way some students looked at him as he walked past.

When he got to his locker, he put in the combination given to him and then threw his bag in, then took out a few exercise books and set a new lock code before heading to homeroom.

There was Mrs May from the registration office and she smiled at him when he got in.

"Class, we have a new student joining us today, he's a transfer student from Crest view high...let's welcome him..".

Then she faced him and said..

"Introduce yourself my dear".

He swallowed hard when he raised his head and stared back at the not so friendly atmosphere he met.

The students stared at him, some looking uninterested in him, some sad while some were irritated at the sight of him.

He suddenly forgot what he was about to do.

After a few minutes of uncomfortable silence, Mrs May cleared her throat, to call his attention.

"You can just tell them your name okay?".

He nodded quickly and turned to face the class again.

"I..I..I'm Bobby Adams". He stuttered and adjusted his glasses, uncomfortably.

"Whatever, four eyes...go find a seat". A guy said and the rest bursted out laughing.

"Mister Blake Hudson, that is not nice at all". Mrs May scolded.

Bobby lowered his head while he looked for an empty seat.

He found one and rushed to it.

When he was about to sit, it was pulled behind and he ended up on the floor, sitting on his butt.

There was an uproar of laughter again.

"Abby Richards.... detention now!". Mrs May ordered angrily at the girl who made him fall.

"The seat is taken ma'am". She replied in defense.

"By whom?".

Abby let out a sigh before replying.

"Stephanie Myers, ma'am".

Mrs May's countenance changed to a sad one and she exhaled sharply before looking back at her students.

"There's an empty seat behind, occupy that one". She told Bobby who obeyed humbly after picking up his books from the floor.

"Don't try that next time Abby...it's not nice".

"Okay". Abby murmured, then rolled her eyes in secret.

"As we all know except our new student of course, tragedy struck us as one of our brightest students didn't make it back from the field trip in one piece.....may her soul rest in peace". She did the sign of the cross and continued...

"Class monitor, please sign and go through the class register, pick out the absentees and submit it to my office".

"Um ma'am... Stephanie was the class monitor". Someone replied.

Her eyes went wide in realization.

"Miss Claire, please do so, we'll appoint the next class monitor in our next class". She said, pointing at one of the students and walked out of the class.

They began to murmur amongst each other.

"It's so sad...she was the most beautiful girl in school". A boy said, among his league of friends.

"Serves her right....the b*tch got what she deserved, she treated us like trash just because she thought she was better than us". A girl said among her own league of chirp talkers.

"I wonder what Blake saw in her...it's not like she's really pretty".

"I bet Karma caught up with her".

"She was a total sweetheart...it's so heartbreaking what happened to her".

Bobby sat on his seat, overhearing what others discussed and it made him wondered what type of girl was the so called deceased.

Abby Richards sat in her own seat, tearing up while Veronica Lopez, her friend, passed her some tissue papers to blow in.

"Hey look, Abby is crying again". One girl said and everybody's attention was on her.

Blake, the guy who acted like a bitch earlier to Bobby stood up and went to Abby's.

He pulled her up and wiped her tears with his hanky, then pulled her out of the class, to prevent her from messing herself up in front of others.

Veronica followed suit.

Abby and Veronica were close friends of Stephanie while Blake Hudson was her boyfriend.

I'd say ex now, since she's gone.

The class was a hell of a noise as they continued discussing Stephanie Myers's sudden demise.

Bobby walked down the hall, heading to his locker once more, he had to get his lunch.

He found a crowd gathered at a corner of the locker hall, they seemed to be staring at something and whispering to each other.

When he got closer, he caught a glimpse of the poster.

It was the poster of the dead girl, he thought as he saw the name on it and a big 'R.I.P' written on it.

She was surprisingly beautiful, he thought again as he glanced at the poster one more time and shook his head.

"What a pity...may her soul rest in peace". He murmured to himself and walked on.

After getting his lunch of burrito and a milkshake, he turned to head for the garden but stopped in his tracks as he felt the hairs on his body stand.

The locker room was hot due to the crowd in it but all of a sudden, there was a cold, chilly wind that blew and he swallowed hard as he felt chills down his spine.

His legs trembled whilst he turned around to see what caused the chills.

His eyes went wide when he stared back at the being looking straight at him.

Her beautiful eyes were now red and puffy and it seemed like she had been crying.

There stood the girl who everyone said was dead.

She was putting on a white, sleeveless, flowing gown.

Students passed by her and were still talking about her death which meant he was the only one seeing her and what shocked him the most was when a student passed through her.

It dawned on him that he was standing face to face with a ghost.

His burrito slipped from his hand and dropped to the floor...

His milkshake container also dropped and he suddenly felt fear grip him.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancé, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."
