Billionaire's redemption Chapter 1 Embracing Independence and nurturing love

As the blaring sound pierced through the tranquility of her bedroom, Alexa Allen, feeling a sense of reluctance, slowly and delicately opened her eyes. Her teeth lightly clenched in mild displeasure as she extended her hand in a tired haze, attempting to locate her phone. The remnants of sleep clung to her eyes, obscuring her vision like the wisps of clouds after a refreshing rainstorm.

The preceding night had been consumed by an arduous research project, one that her employer had entrusted to her for approval in the early hours of the morning.

The project revolved around the intricate details of an agreement her business had recently forged with a burgeoning corporation that was rapidly gaining prominence within the nation. Alexa was tasked with her part of the presentation and the imminent meetings with the esteemed board of directors scheduled for ten o'clock in the morning.

Engrossed in her responsibilities, she had dedicated the majority of the night to the project, with her sole companions being numerous mugs of coffee that fueled her concentration and the soft murmur of hushed voices emanating from the television, serving as a comforting backdrop to her solitary efforts.

With a groan escaping her lips, Alexa finally managed to lift her phone from its resting place and glided her index finger wearily across the screen, all while stifling a tired yawn. Her other hand instinctively sought solace in her luscious honey pecan-colored hair, providing a brief respite from the demands of the early morning.

"Hello?" she greeted, her voice tinged with remnants of sleepiness, betraying her exhaustion.

"Someone is still embracing the realm of slumber," her younger brother, Andrew, muttered lazily from the other end of the line.

The clarity in his voice hinted that he had risen from his own restful state earlier than the time of his call, a fact easily deduced by Alexa. As usual, Andrew should be at his workplace or on his way already.

"Good morning Drew." She yawned again.

"Morning. How are you and my angel doing?" "Very well. Your call woke me just now and

I'll check on her when I drop the call." She tried to keep the irritation in her tone at bay,

wondering why he called.

"Someone is eager to hang up." He spoke teasingly.

Irritation easily seeped into Alexa and she desperately hoped she wouldn't have to lash out at someone so early in the morning. She was sometimes a morning person. That is, whenever she had a good sleep.

"And someone is eager to get cut off the phone if he doesn't have any valuable reason

for calling so early. Why did you call?" She spoke through gritted teeth.

He couldn't have possibly called her at such an early hour of the day just to say nothing important. It was just too early.

"Okay, I'll let you know why I called." He added quickly with a light laugh.

Alexa knew why he was laughing and she did an eye roll. Drew knew his older sister wasn't always a morning person and also knew she hated it whenever her sleep got interrupted during working days because most of those dawns, she would just be getting her version of a good sleep.

She checked the time on the nightstand and heaved a contented sigh. It was just five O'Clock and she still had at At least an hour more to nap before she could start preparing for the day because her overly the generous boss had been kind enough to ask her to come in after eight-thirty.

She knew the man had a little crush on her but never liked taking advantage of his feelings whenever he made such suggestions.

However, this time, Alexa would go for it. She needed the rest so she wouldn't end up with droopy eyes during the meeting full of professionals all dressed in intimidating suits and with a tense presentations. For the umpteenth time, Alexa hoped everything would go well with the ten AM presentation.

"What's up?"

"I'm traveling to Hawaii for three months and...I mightn't reach you very often. It'll be a very busy quarter for me." He stated all forms of playfulness wiped off in his tone.

The unexpected revelation conveyed by Andrew's languid voice instantly captured Alexa's attention, sending a shiver of unease down her spine. In response, she released a sharp breath and swiftly sat up on her bed, her mind racing with a flurry of thoughts and concerns.

Never before had Andrew ventured far from her side for such an extended period of time. The realization that he was embarking on a three-month sojourn to the picturesque islands of Hawaii stirred a mixture of emotions within her.

Although she refrained from delving into the specifics, she was aware that his journey was driven by an art exhibition or some other professional endeavor linked to his renowned creative pursuits. Andrew, an artist of international acclaim, possessed an influential presence in the artistic realm, a fact that never ceased to fill her with pride and admiration.

Their physical proximity had been deliberately maintained at a distance, as suggested by Alexa herself. Residing in separate cities served a dual purpose: allowing her to cultivate a sense of independence and self-reliance while also reducing the need to lean on others for support.

The untimely demise of their parents had left them with only each other, forging an unbreakable bond that transcended the boundaries of blood. Additionally, Alexa bore the responsibility of caring for her tender three-year-old daughter, an obligation she held close to her heart.

Entrusting the care of her child to someone else would only serve to exacerbate her own internal struggle, as she feared it would reduce her to a mere object of pity.

Adjusting on the bed, she let out a low breath. "I'm happy for you Drew." "I know you are but I am not too sure about you being alone..."

"That's where you are wrong, baby brother. I'm strong enough and we can handle

whatever comes. Besides, it's just been work, work, and even more work. That's apart from taking care of Angelina, of course."

Andrew exhaled on the other end. "I'm glad to hear that. Are you sure you'll be good on your own with my niece? You could come over.

You know Maggie would be glad to help take care of Angelina." Maggie was his part-time maid and the maid usually spoiled Angelina whenever they visited, giving her extra treats.

"I'm sure, we'll be okay. Go and do what you love and oh, break a leg." She sniggered.

I spent four hours preparing a five-course meal for our fifth anniversary. When Jackson finally walked into the penthouse an hour late, he didn't even look at the table. He just dropped a thick Manila envelope in front of me and told me he was done. He said his stepsister, Davida, was getting worse and needed "stability." I wasn't his wife; I was a placeholder, a temporary fix he used until the woman he actually loved was ready to take my place. Jackson didn't just want a divorce; he wanted to erase me. He called me a "proprietary asset," claiming that every design I had created to save his empire belonged to him. He froze my bank accounts, cut off my phone, and told me I’d be nothing without his name. Davida even called me from her hospital bed to flaunt the family heirloom ring Jackson claimed was lost, mocking me for being "baggage" that was finally being cleared out. I stood in our empty home, realizing I had spent five years being a martyr for a man who saw me as a transaction. I couldn't understand how he could be so blind to the monster he was protecting, or how he could discard me so coldly after I had given him everything. I grabbed my hidden sketchbook, shredded our wedding portrait, and walked out into the rain. I dialed a number I hadn't touched in years—a dangerous man known as The Surgeon who dealt in debts and shadows. I told him I was ready to pay his price. Jackson and Davida wanted to steal my identity, but I was about to show the world the literal scars they had left behind.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.
