CHAPTER 01
Mia was in the company's pantry, facing the heavy start of another Monday at work. Leaning on the column next to the coffee machine, she watched the people taking their places in the office, while she drank her coffee and, distracted, looked at the cell phone that vibrated insistently, ignoring the calls from Ava, her younger sister.
Although she was aware of the importance of being attentive to the entry of CEO Oliver, responsible for almost all of the family companies, her rich, influential and attractive boss, Mia never harbored feelings for him. In fact, she didn't even have the opportunity to get close, being just one secretary among many in the vast network of companies. However, Mia enjoyed watching his daily arrival, punctual as clockwork. While the men hid and the women offered themselves, the serious Oliver passed without greeting anyone, surrounded by his security guards, and entered his office, a place restricted to a few people, only the most important and powerful in the city.
Amidst the sighs and whispers of co-workers hoping to get Oliver's attention, Mia kept to the sidelines, focused on her professional responsibilities. However, that day, something unexpected happened. As Mia fixed her gaze on the path taken by Oliver, he did something unusual: their gazes met for a brief moment. A shiver ran through Mia's body, who felt disconcerted and blushed slightly.
"It must be in my head" Mia thought, ignoring the shudder she felt with the exchange of glances as she returned to the work environment listening to the women's comments about Oliver.
Again Mia was forced to hold the cell phone, ignoring her sister's call and noting that she had left some messages. Following the work day, starting with filing some documents, having to stop after being called to the floor boss's office, waiting to receive a new task.
“Good morning dear” said Mia's boss smiling, “I have news, from today you will change sectors”.
“What happened?” he asked in a soft voice believing that he had made mistakes.
“Oliver's secretary was fired, his work had to be restricted and he needed a discreet person with few friends in the company and he has to be smart and efficient, you fit that profile perfectly, we don't have another person with the structure and patience you have”.
“It feels like a sacrifice and not a job.”
“Oliver is a rich person like the others, demanding and eccentric, but I believe in his potential, it will work”.
“Start when?”
"Now".
Mia took a large cardboard box leaving her colleagues curious, put her things and without delay went up to the roof of the building to meet her new place of work. The penthouse was different, it didn't have offices, not a lot of people, it was just the huge desk of the secretariat, inside a beautiful waiting room and behind it the door of Oliver's office closed.
Mia took a deep breath, noticing that the old secretary hadn't taken her personal effects and that the table had piles of papers, sticking the box she carried in the swivel chair while removing the old secretary's things from the table.
