Chapter 1 The contract

**Otto**

And once again Otto is in his office working, this was the only thing that made his time go by at night, as he lives on a farm a little far from the city, away from the chaotic noises that only those who live in the city know how it is, during the day Otto has a lot to do, he who has an OCD is quite imperative and demanding when the subject is cleaning, He can't see anything out of place, dirt drives him completely crazy, his house is completely spotless, well padded beds, the dishwasher is always clean, everything in its place, this is the way he chose to live, on his property alone, organizing everything just the way he likes it, when he lived with his parents it was a real madness, When he lived with his parents it was a real madness, a lot of people coming and going, many things out of the places, that made him completely crazy, he was really agitated, his parents knew about his (OCD) was diagnosed when he was a child, his mother tried to help in every way because she saw how difficult it was and still is for her son to live that way, a small thing for him turned into chaos, his father for being the Dom of the mafia, Guerra, when he turned eighteen, left home because he couldn't stand the life he was leading any longer. As he was already working in the family business, he was paid very well to support himself, and today he occupies the position of capo of the Italian mafia.

"Otto doesn't have a good relationship with his father, but he has to go at least once a month to attend the mafia meetings that take place in the family business."

He left the office and went to his room, took off his clothes already in the bathroom, put them in the hamper and went into the shower, bathed very well, dried off, wrapped the towel around his waist and began to dry the bathroom, he could not go to sleep and leave the bathroom all wet for him that is a sin, after leaving the bathroom spotless he returned to the room, went to the closet and put on a thin mesh shorts, no underwear even because he liked to sleep comfortable.

The next day he got up early, made his coffee and drank it, washed the dishes and cleaned the sink, put on his work clothes, put on his boots and went out to his farm, he had a stable with some horses, not many, because as he was alone he couldn't take care of so many animals, after feeding his animals he went to his orchard, made the irrigation leaving his plantation well wet and with a great appearance, he liked to cultivate things there, for him the most he could avoid leaving to go to the market to buy something he would do to avoid, he hated to be in the middle of a lot of people, that walk that has in the market, the chaos for him she his worst enemy.

In the afternoon when it was time for the meeting he got in his truck and drove to the company, despite being the hood of the mafia for him there was no sense in having a big car of the year on his property when the road was completely of mud, besides the car getting dirty would not be nice the bumps that would take for riding in a low car, he had a luxury house in town with a big car in the garage but was there, the house locked and the car stopped in the garage because he did not care to be in that place, preferred his property where he had his peace.

He arrived at the company and went straight to the meeting room, delivered and the meeting had already started, everyone looked at him but quickly took their attention away, they knew that with him there was no censorship and would send everyone to fuck immediately if they were staring at it. He sat down in the seat that was reserved for him and paid attention to what was being neglected. Finally the meeting was over, he got up now to leave but his father stopped him.

" Otto, don't go now, I have something to talk to you about."

" Can not be another time?"

"No," he said confidently, which made Otto snort and sit down again, he hated the idea of having to stay a long time away from his property even though he knew it was one of the safest in the whole region, but to confess, he really hated having to talk to his father who he didn't get along with, he knew that all his conversations always ended in arguments, this was not good for him, he had an excess of anger and when he exploded he was totally out of control."

After everyone left the meeting room his father leaned against the table in front of the one Otto was sitting at and began to speak.

- You already know that you are close to taking your place as Dom of our mafia, right? you know that I am close to retiring."

"I already know all that, I don't know why I want to remember if I grew up hearing this story, I'm here to assume my duty, period, can I go now?"

"Be quiet and listen to me. Otto looked at his father suspiciously, he didn't like this subject at all."

" What kind of things are these?"

" Otto jumped out of his chair."

" WHAT IS THIS?"_ he shouted.

" That's right, you have to get married to take over as Dom."

" You've got to be crazy, you're out of your mind."

" The truth is that this marriage of yours has been scheduled for years, I had to sign a marriage contract between you and Otto's daughter when the girl was still a baby, it was a peace agreement, so our mafia didn't lose out and he guaranteed a great future for his daughter as the Dom's wife in the Italian mafia."

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.
