Chapter 1 PROLOGUE

"Sir, are you all right?" Miriana asked her teacher sitting near the campus gate. It was late at night and there were not many people around, so she was surprised to see one of her teachers looking very drunk.

"M-miriana?" he softly called her and smiled.

Miriana immediately turned pale with the smile that always made her heart beat faster. It is also undeniable that the man has a beautiful smile that is always admired by women on campus. And Miriana was one of them who always looked at him from a distance when he wasn't looking.

"Let's go sir, it's too late at night and it's cold here," she said, helping the man to stand up.

The man did not growl when Miriana put one of her hands on his shoulder to support him.

'He is heavy,' said Miriana in her mind.

She turned around to look for the guard but because it's already dark, she could no longer see anything. "I'll just take you in the taxi, Sir for--" she didn't finish what she was saying when he suddenly kissed her on the lips without a warning.

Her heartbeat had speeded up and it got even faster when the man leaned her against the wall and his kiss on her deepened even more. She didn't know what to do at these times especially since she was feeling so shocked right now. She was shocked when she felt his hand crawling to her waist. She even repeatedly cursed in her mind when the man brought her closer to him so that he could kiss her more properly.

Miriana wants to push the man because what they are doing is wrong and maybe someone will see. But after many times of doubting and fighting to her own thoughts, she closes her eyes and savor every kiss the man gives her. Little by little... Miriana wrapped her hand around the man's neck and she returned the kisses he gave her.

It wasn't the first time someone had kissed her, that's why she knew how to kiss him back. She even caught her breath a little as his hand dropped to her thigh. He gently stroked it until his hand landed between the girl's thighs. She didn't expect that so she was so shocked that she pushed the man away.

'What the f*ck are you doing Miriana?!' She quickly adjusted the skirt she was wearing and quickly walked away.

The man realized what he had done so he immediately followed Miriana and quickly grabbed her hand to stop her. "Look, Miriana... I'm sorry. I'm drunk and--"

"Just go home Sir, it's late," she replied, interrupting him. Miriana couldn't look and did everything to avoid looking the man in the eye.

The man sighed at her behavior and did nothing but let her go. When he let go of her, Miriana ran away as if someone was chasing her even though there was really nothing.

'You're embarrassing Miriana!'

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
