Billionaire's Contract Marriage Chapter 1 Maria's POV

I woke up due to the annoying sounds of my alarm. I just shut it off. It's just 6:00am. 'waking up before 7:30am should be illegal'. My subconscious mocked.

After finishing my other morning routines, I grab my bathing towel to shower and refresh my mood. After that I applied a little make-up on my face, and I left my room with my handbag. I just grabbed one apple from the fruit basket and left for work. I work in a restaurant near my apartment, it's just a 20 mins walk to reach my workplace (restaurant). I plugged my earphone to start listening to my favourite romantic playlist.

I grew up to see myself as an orphan. I don't know anything about my parents. But I never felt alone because of my two idiot friends 'David and Lily'. We were inseparable. They were orphans too. We three are almost the same age but David always acts like an elder brother because he is a year and three months older than us.

We left the orphanage when we were 18 years old. David works as a bartender and Lily works as a receptionist. 'David and Lily live in the same apartment but it wasn't far from my apartment. They love each other, David and Lily even planned to get engaged by the end of this month. I'm so happy for them.

"Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Maria Robert, I'm 19 years old, 5'4 with medium brown coloured straight hair. That reaches my shoulder, plumpy rosy lips and fair skin and hazel eyes."

While I enter my work place I was 5min early. I run towards the storeroom and get ready for my shift, I don't mind coming to work before time. But at the same time, using eight hours to get here before I go home is just bullshit because I love my small cosy apartment and my soft, sweet bed.

As an orphan I didn't bother to pursue or further studies, so I just got a job in this Slice of Spice restaurant. Beside that, I don't earn much but of course Slice of Spice pays me alot much more than other restaurants. Some people say that money talks, but mine just wave goodbye. Sometimes I get good tips and good compliments from my good customers. The only hardest part of my job is trying to be nice to some stupid customers. But I still thank God for my manager Mia, she is a kind-hearted and has been like a sister to me.

It's was totally a wonderful day. I saw repeated customers who came to have a good marinated chicken and broccoli salad with their loved ones and to enjoy peace. Our daily customers always greet me with their beautiful smile and somehow it's warm my heart everyday. After glancing at my watch I realised that my shift was completed. "What's a joy, to rush back home" I just bid Mia and left the restaurant. It was around 5:30 pm when I reached my small cosy apartment.

I feel like I should clean the house, so I'm going to lay down and take a nap until that feeling passes, by 11:00 pm I woke up because my stomach pleated to feed it. Then I remember everything that I need to buy. I need to buy groceries today. Really, my bed is a magical place where I suddenly remember everything I was supposed to do. I took my purse and left my house. I went to the grocery store which is near to my house which requires a 10min walk to reach. I bought the groceries and paid the bill.

I feel like something weird is going to happen, I just kept that feeling aside and started to walk back to my house. While walking back I heard a car crash sound, then I turned back to see the cause of that sound. A car was crashed head-on into a tree. I ran near the car hoping no one was dead. I saw a handsome man in the driving seat who was injured severely. I just took to the hospital.......

I never thought that this accident would turn my life upside down.

The doctor took that handsome stranger into the emergency room. My imagination is wild with each passing minute. My silly brain was busy thinking about all the worst possibilities that gonna happen to that injured stranger. To be sincere I want my brain and mind to be calm but it is an impossible task.

To divert my thoughts, I plugged my earphone to continue my favourite song. While I was busy with my new diversion, the doors of the emergency room opened exposing the handsome man in his late twenties. Who was wearing a big blue coat, wearing a stethoscope around his neck. Currently he was looking like an angel without wings.

"My spirit asked, what is your relationship with the patient?." And it's sound like one sweet angel voice.

Wait! See, this is the reason why I hate my imagination sometimes. The angel, I mean Doc stares at me as I have grown two heads.

" Nothing Doc. I mean I don't know anything about the guy, I just saw the accident and I brought him here.

" Nothing Doc. I mean I don't know anything about the guy, I just saw the accident and I brought him here.

And thank God immediately I remembered his phone is still in his car.

"Ok". The Doctor said that and wanted to say something but one of the nurses there interrupted him who arrived and ran like a marathon. She wispier to his ear, in which I couldn't even hear a word.

Wait! Do ants have ears? Whatever, after listening to her murmur, the doctor's facial expression wasn't pleasant at all. And that was enough for my silly brain to cook stupid unwanted thoughts which do no good for my heart and hair.

"I stood up from where I was sitting to meet the doctor where he was, is everything ok doctor? Is there any risk to the life of the patient?". I started to bombard the doctor with my questions. I know it's annoys everyone but sometimes I can't give my mouth a break.

"Don't worry, miss. Calm down". The professional doctor replied to me in a low tone.

"What's the problem doctor? I asked again".

'Did you plan to kill that poor soul (doctor) with your questions? If you really did that, then trust me your plan will succeed soon' my subconscious said to me while drying her nail colour. I said to her while rolling my eyes mentally.

'Please do seat. So that you can save him from your wrath. At least give him a chance to speak.' my subconscious said to me while rubbing her temples.

" Well, nothing serious, just that he lost a lot of blood so he fell unconscious but had a few minor injuries. He will regain consciousness by tomorrow morning. You can see him if you want. " The doctor said to me, I thanked him and he walked away and the nurse instructed me about his medicines and hospital bills.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was at my own engagement party at the Sterling estate when the world started tilting. Victoria Sterling, my future mother-in-law, smiled coldly as she watched me struggle with a cup of tea that had been drugged to ruin me. Before I could find my fiancé, Ryan, a waiter dragged me into the forbidden West Wing and locked me in a room with Julian Sterling, the family’s "fallen titan" who had been confined to a wheelchair for years. The door burst open to a frenzy of camera flashes and theatrical screams. Victoria framed me as a seductress caught in the act, and Ryan didn't even try to listen to my pleas, calling me "cheap leftovers" before walking away with his pregnant mistress. When I turned to my own family for help, my father signed a document severing our relationship for a five-million-dollar payout from Julian. They traded me like a commodity without a second thought. I didn't understand why my own parents were so eager to sell me, or how Ryan could look at me with such disgust after promising me forever. I was a sacrifice, a pawn used to protect the family's offshore accounts, and I couldn't fathom how every person I loved had a price tag for my destruction. With nowhere left to go, I married Julian in a bleak ceremony at City Hall. He slid a heavy diamond onto my finger and whispered, "We have a war to start." That night, inside his secret penthouse, I watched the paralyzed man stand up from his wheelchair and activate a screen filled with the Sterling family's darkest secrets. The execution had officially begun.
