Chapter 1 MORNING RUSH

"Vivian, better hurry up, you're already six minutes late. You're gonna be behind schedule!" My elder Brother, Nicholas, yelled from the top. I grabbed my duffel bag and ran towards the first floor, frowning at him. He murmured and bit his lip. "Come on, don't be sluggish" He told me.

"Hop in the car let's move" Nicholas commanded

"Never mind I'll use my car" I replied

"Must you always be a jerk, I'm gonna drive you down there by myself" Nathan said with arched eyebrows

"Can you give me some breathing space? I don't like being caged, okay? I'm old enough to drive myself" I told him

"You can't drive down there alone, they're a lot of roughnecks in downtown Carson Street."

"Nicholas stop bugging me, I got no time for this chitchat."

I sped off in my Alfa Romeo 159, looking forward to the beginning of a new day at school. I got some old cassettes ranging from Elvis to The Beatles and got some piece of Aaliyah and Keri Hilson, but preferred Tupac's "Hail Mary" I put it on replay with a load volume as my car accelerated with incredible speed as I drove towards Carson's Bridge.

Few moments later I showed up at my new school and pulled up at the parking lot before turning off the steaming car engine.

I stayed inside the car for a while before taking a deep heavy breath to help me recover from the crazy morning drive. I was apprehensive to enrolling in another school. Particularly since this is another school with an alternate pack and I didn't actually have companions in my pack. Nobody really took me seriously in light of the fact that my brother Nicholas was overly protective. I murmured to myself and stepped out of the car. I got out of my vehicle and locked it.

"Hey" I heard a voice calling from behind. I hopped in shock and twirled around to see an exceptionally lovely young lady with radiant pink hair standing before me.

"Hi" I said

"Hi sweetie, I'm Elena Sage. I'm your new dearest companion. You're so lovely and it seems we're gonna be good friends."

"Yeah for sure" I screeched energetically and connected her arm over mine. I was in an excessive amount of shock at her flagrancy to even acknowledge what was going on.

She showed me around and the next spot was the reception.

The receptionist grinned at me as Elena and I ventured into the room. "Hi honey, you must be the new girl Vivian Blackwood?"

"Yes Ma" I replied

"I go by the name Mrs Latifah. I'm the receptionist, as may be obvious.

Here is your class to-do list and your locker number. If you ever need anything just inform me and I'll do the needful" She grinned at me. I grinned back at her.

"Much thanks to you" I said and took my timetable and locker number from her prior to leaving the reception.

Elena in a flash got the papers from my hand and read over my timetable before screaming in a loud tone:

"Goodness gracious! We're having almost the same schedule, except for one particular subject". She frowned. I grinned at her. "This is perfect, we're definitely going to be a perfect match and you know you might happen to be the best thing I've ever come across."

"Really, are you serious?" I questioned

"Definitely, I'm not joking" She said with conviction

"What if we have a hangout at my place tonight?

I got enough space you need not worry about comfort and accommodation" She boasted

"Not to sound discourteous Elena, but, don't you have cronies?" I inquired.

"Obviously I do. However, none of those folks can deal with the level of brilliance that I possess. I'm The Sage, Elena. Nobody fucks with me". She said and I bust out laughing.

Despite the fact that I have known her for just the past 15 minutes, I really did enjoy her company. It was a good sign that she's going to make a good friend.

Elena took me on a tour around the school, causing us to miss the first lesson scheduled during that particular hour, however we made it to the subsequent session of the class.

"Good morning folks, it appears we have a newbie among us today, or should I say a new entrant . "Vivian, would you like to make a formal introduction to the class" The instructor said. I was abashed, thinking how awkward it was to have such countless eyes on me and yet still had to go up to the front in other to make a formal introduction.

"Hello everyone, I'm Vivian Blackwood, 19years of age and I moved here as of late with my sibling" I shrugged, feeling flustered.

"Yeah! That was one hell of an introduction, that's how we roll, fu.................."

Elena began cheering when a hand was set over her mouth, thus disallowing her from finishing her gibberish.

"You vowed not to swear any longer, Elena" The boy said to her. She tried pushing his hand away from her. "I cant help it Tyler, It's exactly who I am!" She started making funny faces which made me chuckle.

"You can now take a seat, Vivian" the Instructor said. I grinned at her and sat down close to Elena.

"Vivian, I'm here with my twin brother Tyler, he's sitting just behind us" Elena acquainted me with the person who prevented her from swearing.

"Tyler, this is my new freaking bestie Vivian" She introduced me to Tyler. I smiled at him and he smiled back.

"Hello Tyler" I muttered.

"Hi Vivian" He replied while looking straight into my eyes, but I looked away immediately. I giggled and peered down at the book on my desk.

As Tyler, Elena and I fell into deep silence, out of nowhere i heard a group of voices muttering unintelligible sounds before one of them said in a hushed tone.

"Wow! It seems the new young lady will be sitting next to him" I heard a couple of individuals shout in what should be quieted murmurs yet because of my werewolf hearing instincts, I heard them loud and clear.

I glared at them and turned towards Elena and Tyler who looked somewhat awkward.

"Who will be sitting next to me?" I asked Elena. Her face abruptly went pale and I realized something was definitely wrong. Despite the fact that I haven't known her for long I realized something probably frightened her enough to persuade her to be so quiet.

"Elena? Tyler?" I inquired. They stayed quiet. I grimaced and frowned at the pair. "Respond to me, please!" An answer was what I wanted, I was excessively inquisitive.

"I'm so happy you didn't sit on the other side of the desk. He would have been so irate" Elena muttered.

"I recall one youngster who sat there one fateful day, the youngster was gone forever. Nobody holds him up. On the off chance that you see him strolling down the passageway you get out of his way."

"Assuming you see him on one side of the road you better cross to the opposite side. That dude can do without anyone!" Tyler sighed. He looked somewhat scared. I glared and heaved.

"Why are you so scared of him, who the hell is this dude?" I asked, befuddled.

"He frightens me" Elena grumbled, her head.

"He frightens everybody. His wolf is so strong" Tyler spoke softly. I moaned in disappointment.

"Who folks?! Who's this guy that is dreaded by everyone?" I snapped, getting irritated with them.

Elena and Tyler both look around the class room back and forth. They did this a couple of times, which got me questioning their sanity before both saying exactly the same thing.

"The Alpha..." They chorused

Suddenly, out of nowhere came a bloodcurdling howl that echoed over the class room block, one of grief and heartrending sorrow.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."
