Remarriage: You're My Only Love Chapter 1 I Won't Marry Him

Jennifer Lu was called back to the Lu's mansion on an emergency.

When she stepped into the living room, the TV was airing a report on the Gu Group. Jennifer Lu stopped and looked at the giant LCD screen.

"The elections for the current CEO of the Gu Group is about to begin. At present, Jason Gu, the head of the Gu Family, has not said much about the candidates. It is reported that the eldest grandson of the Gu Family, Ryan Gu, is expected to win. The results will be known after the Gu Group's board meeting."

The mention of Ryan Gu made Jennifer Lu's heart tremble.

'He...'

"Miss Jennifer, why have you returned?" The servant's words interrupted Jennifer Lu's thoughts.

She usually would be on duty at the office at this time.

Jennifer Lu shook her head and smiled at the servant. "Where is my father?"

"Mr. Elliot and Mr. Gu are in the study now."

Jennifer Lu frowned slightly. "Which Mr. Gu?"

There were not that many people who had the surname Gu in the F City, let alone get near her father. There could only be one person...

"It is Mr. Jacob," the servant answered.

'Ah! I thought so.'

Jacob Gu was Ryan Gu's second uncle.

A sense of uneasiness suddenly rose up in Jennifer Lu's heart. Her father, Elliot Mo, must had called her back for a reason.

"I'll go up to my room and freshen up first," Jennifer Lu went upstairs after saying this.

When she passed through the study, Jennifer Lu stopped in front of the door and listened carefully.

"I can assure you that as long as you join hands with me, we will definitely be able to defeat Ryan and pull him out of the company. Even if Ryan is capable, it will be impossible for him to fight against the Gu Family and the Lu Family at the same time. If necessary, we can even make him disappear. It will be just like he's never existed."

It was Jacob Gu who said this.

Jennifer Lu's eyes widened. She was shocked. Jacob Gu was determined to get the Gu Family all to himself and even want to kill Ryan in the process.

She couldn't just stand by and watch Ryan Gu in danger.

Jennifer Lu tiptoed back to her room. When she got there, she took out her phone and dialed a number. "Can you help me contact Ryan? Okay, I'll wait for your news."

After changing her clothes, Jennifer Lu waited anxiously in her bedroom.

After a while, her phone rang.

"How is it going?" she asked.

An embarrassed voice came from the other end of the phone. "Mr. Ryan, he... He doesn't want to see you."

Jennifer Lu didn't feel disappointed at this. She had expected it, but she still wanted to give it a shot.

Nevertheless, she had to see Ryan Gu today.

Jennifer Lu would never forget the bloody scene that greeted her eyes when she walked into the Gu's mansion. She didn't want it to happen to Ryan Gu.

Standing up suddenly, she rushed out of the bedroom. She had decided to go to the Gu Group to find Ryan Gu to talk to him about what was happening.

However, to Jennifer Lu's surprise, she happened to meet Elliot Mo and Jacob Gu when she rushed downstairs. They were sitting on the sofa and talking.

"Jen, you're back." Elliot Mo waved his hand, gesturing for Jennifer Lu to come to him.

Jennifer Lu hid all her emotions and obediently came to Elliot Mo's side. "Dad, Uncle Jacob."

"Elliot, you are so lucky to have such a beautiful daughter." Jacob Gu studied Jennifer Lu up and down and smiled at her.

Elliot Mo nodded his head. "Jacob, you are the one who is lucky. Your son, Francis, is wanted by many women. If my memory serves me right, Francis and Jen graduated from the same university. You were friends, right, Jen?"

When Jennifer Lu heard that the topic had something to do with Francis Gu, she just smiled and did not answer Elliot Mo's question.

Although she and Francis Gu studied in the same university, they didn't know each other well at all.

Elliot Mo's reference to Francis Gu at this time was probably to lay the groundwork for the next thing they wanted to say.

As she expected, after Jacob Gu heard what Elliot Mo said, he added, "It seems to be the case. That's good. Jennifer is quite familiar with Fran. The good relationship they built before will provide the foundation and save a lot of unnecessary trouble, when the two children will be together and live with each other in the future."

"Yes, of course," Elliot Mo echoed.

Jennifer Lu suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable. "Dad, what are you talking about?"

She had a disturbing thought. 'Do they want to make a match between me and Francis?'

Elliot smiled, "Oh, here is the thing. Uncle Jacob came here today to propose a marriage. Jen, you are already at the marrying age. I think you have a good relationship with Francis. This marriage will be a win-win solution."

Jennifer stared at them as if they were crazy.

She barely even spoke to Francis Gu!

Of course, she knew better than anyone else that the real reason why her father wanted her to marry into the Gu Family was because he wanted to use the shares her mother left her to help Jacob Gu deal with Ryan Gu.

She had been playing dumb for so many years, but did he really think she was that stupid?

Jennifer smiled faintly, "I won't marry him."

Her voice was quiet and firm.

Elliot and Jacob didn't expect that she would refuse them. Their faces darkened in an instant.

Elliot frowned and scolded his daughter loudly, "Do you know what you are saying, Jennifer? It should be your honor to marry Francis and enter the Gu Family. Who else would dare to marry you with your current reputation in the F City? Learn your place!"

Elliot's words dripped with disgust.

Jennifer laughed sarcastically. "Dad, as you said, I have a bad reputation. Will the Gu Family allow me to become one of them?"

She then shot Jacob a meaningful gaze. "Uncle Jacob, I don't think Francis would want a woman like me. Please don't hurt your son for your own selfish gain."

Jacob's face darkened at her words.

'She...'

"Jennifer." Elliot didn't expect his daughter to be so disrespectful to him. He glared at her angrily. "How dare you? You will marry Francis, whether or not you want to."

Jennifer looked her father in the eye. "I have said that I won't marry him. If you asked me to come back today just because of this matter, then we have nothing else to talk about."

She then turned around and left quickly, ignoring her father's curses at her.

Looking at Jennifer's receding figure, Elliot could still feel anger boiling in his chest. At the thought that she embarrassed him in front of Jacob, he did want nothing but tear his daughter apart.

He shouldn't have given birth to such an evil creature!

Jacob glanced over at Elliot. "Elliot, I think you know how important it is that they get married. I hope I can hear good news before the board meeting comes."

Shocked, Elliot looked at him to say something, but Jacob had already turned around and left.

Elliot was left alone in the living room. He stared up to the ceiling, eyes filled with anger. His daughter would pay for her insolence!

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.
