Chapter 1 BINTA

BINTA GREENWOOD

" Get up stupid girl!!" My eyes jerked open as I felt wet spot on my right cheek.

" I probably overslept, I'm sorry" I apologized immediately to my foster mum, Becca.

She pushed me off the bed, and left the room saying things I would never repeat.

" Thank heavens" I let out a sigh of relief when she closed the door behind her.

.I got up so excited as it was going to be my first day of senior year in St Gregory high.

I rushed to put on makeover to cover the fresh scars that were visible enough. I added mascara to highlight my already long lashes and had some chapstick on my dry lips before I hurried downstairs. Luckily, the house was unusually quiet and I prayed it was really empty. I had lost my appetite due to the way mum woke me up. Each time I remembered the spit, I felt more disgusted.

I took to my heels to meet up with my first period class.

My first hour class Happened to be chemistry which has always been same for years. It was always a boring class so students slept often getting which gave me chances to talk to the tutor without getting nervous.

I walked down the hallway, being a very quiet and unsocial person, I felt a sting of jealousy watching everyone in twos and threes chatting and laughing. I only get alot of greetings based on the fact that I was well known to be a smart and nice kid.

However, my only friend was someone I met at the shopping mall I visited with my foster parents when I was new at Derby Island.

A slap in my shoulder brought me back to reality. It felt familiar so I turned quickly but casually.

" A normal person is meant to feel flustered" Chloe whined making me have a good laugh.

" Good morning to you" I said smiling widely.

She frowned and kept her hands akimbo.

" You're no fun"

I put my hands up in Surrender as I had nothing to say.

" Well, if it was a zombie apocalypse and I was to sneak on you, you world be gone by now" She scoffed into the air, being as dramatic as she usually was.

Unlike my blonde hair and brown shiny eyes, Chloe was known for her wild ginger curls that was really amazing.

She was slightly shorter than me with a more curved figure while I was just there.

I spent the whole day attending all my classes, not skipping even the most boring ones. The day ended up being boring and less fun being the first day and we left with no homework to do as the tutors were overjoyed we were in our senior year.

On getting home, I strolled into the usually deserted area to meet Greenwood and Becca sitting outside looking upset at each other. They always had quarrels which anger they transferred to me. Before I could blink an eye, Becca rushed towards me and slapped across my cheeks which made me fall, as I was very weak.

Before I could get up, Greenwood slammed his foot on my ribs which made me cry in agony. They both struggled to get a better hit on my tiny body. My hands were over my face to avoid their contact with it.

After several punches, I ended up with several bruises and cuts from the phone Becca pulled out from her side pocket. I quickly wrapped the cuts with bandage and headed for my work at the clinic, wearing an oversized grey hoodie and a black jeggins. As I waited in the cab in cold air, I couldn't help but think my life could be easier than it was.

When the cab finally reached the clinic, I rushed inside to meet a huge, fuss of people bleeding everywhere so I quickly inquired from the Doctor on duty.

" I'm glad you made it" Ray said hugging me before she started explaining how two feared gangs were involved in a fight and how severe the injuries were.

" It needs a professional hand not a clinic" She complained.

I nodded and walked over to where two people sat discussing.

" What's going on??" I asked slowly, but it seemed nobody noticed or heard what I said.

I cleared my throat as I thought it would help get their attention.

" We're fine kiddo, go attend to others" One of them replied casually.

" Sir, you seem to have a really bad cut on your face. Can I help out??"

He looked over to me and looking me down, he tapped his friend and murmured some words I didn't hear.

" You need to leave" He said.

I stood adamant, scared of what my boss would say.

" My boss would get angry if I don't help out" I said repeatedly, already pleading.

He was taken aback for a split second before he muttered.

" You know who we are??"

" A gang probably" I said smiling, not thinking of the implications.

I didn't wait for a response as I examined the cut closely with all seriousness.

" We are much more than that" He said while I was doing my work.

I laughed as he kept repeating it to my hearing.

" It's not my first time treating people like you. I'm just doing my job" I said as he seemed relaxed for the first time.

" You'll need some stitches. But I'll do it if you permit" I explained.

He nodded. I set out to do a clean stitch before changing my gloves to examine his friend.

" You didn't get in the fight??, I guess" I said referring to his friend that sat quietly.

He didn't seem to hear me as he was focused on my split lips and staring at my bruised cheeks.

I didn't have a chance to defend myself as he stood up and left without a word.
