Renata White doesn't know why no one loves her. Her parents and pack abused her. Her mate rejected her. The moon goddess even made her a legendary animal, a gold wolf. Something that was meant to save the world, but only caused her more trouble. Her soul can't take it anymore. Until she learns why she was born. And that she has to fight gods to save the same wolves who broke her soul in the first place. Will she and the other legendaries succeed against those more powerful than themselves? Or will her soul end up being destroyed?

Her broken soul Chapter 1 How it begins

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Yea right. I guess that person never dealt with an abusive alpha father, isolation in a pack over 200 strong, or a jerk for a mate. I must be the strongest wolf in the world then.

The White Moon pack is one of the oldest in North America. It's also one of the last white wolf packs in the world. Rogue attacks, mates outside of our pack, and hunters have lead to a decline in pure white wolves. The alpha of White Moon, Alpha Jack White, is from the original line of white wolves. His mate, Luna Rachel, is a chosen wolf from the White Moon pack since both of their mates were killed before they had the chance to bond. You see, white wolves are born with certain gifts, which other packs want. If they can't find a mate in White Moon, they steal them or kill them. See, the reason why there's so few of us.

My name is Renata White and I'm the daughter of the alpha. The only child really, since chosen mates rarely get pregnant and definitely don't get a chance to have more than one. I guess that's why my parents are so disappointed in me. I'm not a boy, a chance to continue the white wolf legacy. It's been almost 18 years but Luna Rachel can't seem to carry another pup. Is that a reason to torture me all my life? Not in my opinion, but I'm in the minority. I'm hated by everyone because my parents hate me.

As long as I can remember I've been beaten by other children, attacked by grown wolves, starved, locked up, all because I'm a girl. Girls can't be strong, can't be Alphas. It's my fault I was born a girl. So the pack tells me. If I have a mate, he can't be from White Moon since there are no ranked pure white sons. The pack will have to be taken over by an outsider. Of course, this is my fault too.

I hope my mate is a strong alpha of his own pack. Then I can leave this place. Be cared for and protected instead of hated and abused. But, hope is like glass, fragile and easily broken, just like me.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

Marrying My Runaway Groom's Powerful Father

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."
