Irresistible Love with Mafia Chapter 1 Prologue

It was one of the coldest nights in New York. The streets were dark because of lack of electricity. It had been raining cats and dogs for the last three days. Cara had just finished her work in the restaurant and was going home. In her hurry to reach the place she had forgotten her sweater at home which was adding suffering to her already worn out self.

It was twelve in the night by the time she stepped out of her work place because her friend Elena was on leave. Cara was tired and exhausted because she had to do both the shifts. Her feet were aching, merely able to accept her command to walk. All she wanted was to reach her home and feel the comfort of her bed.

From a distance she could see four men drunk and having drugs near the alley. It was the road which usually takes her home ten minutes early and is always busy during the day. Cara seldom took night shifts. But tonight she couldn't avoid it because one of her colleagues resigned and the other was on leave.

Cara carefully walked through the adjacent lane trying her best not to invoke the men's attention. She clutched her hand bag to her chest and walked as fast as her legs could carry in her sneakers.

Unfortunately, fate was not on her side. One of the drunk men had already seen her. He wet his lips with a lecher taking a shot from the syringe and signaled his friends to follow him.

The heartbeat of Cara skyrocketed. She increased her pace but the men were faster. They closely followed her.

Cara desperately looked around for help but there was nobody. It seems like destiny had turned down her appeals. The streets were deserted because of excessive rains with not a single human.

Her heart beat began to reach her ears. Tonight she was going to sacrifice her virginity, her only possession that she saved for the man of her dreams, her husband.

When the men were about to reach her, Cara closed her eyes, sent a silent prayer to God and made a loudest squeal she could ever muster in her life. "Is anyone around? Please help." But Alas! Her haplessness was doing a victorious dance before her like the Jephthah. There was nobody who replied to her.

The slayer with rotten teeth stood before her like Satan, eyeing her top to toe. His eyes moved on her fragile body in lasciviousness, stopping on every curve and shape. He had a perilous smile on his brims as he said the incorrigible words, "you see there is no Christ here to come and save you."

He was about to reach her face and smooch her but Cara was on time to tilt her head and avoid his sickening kiss. She was captured between the wall and him with his arms on either side of her head. Cara trembled with inexhaustible detest and unconstrained fear at the same time. A mellowed faint went out of her.

His rough hand reached her plump pink lips and brushed them with the pad of his thumb. "These moist, meaty lips...." He pressed both the corners of her lower brims making them to a ball. "I want to have them right now...explore what is inside....so tremulous and warm..." He took a staggered breath with outpouring lust staring down at them.

The smell of alcohol accompanied with cigarettes was causing a nauseating feeling in her empty stomach. "Please let go." Cara requested him. But the man turned a deaf ear to her pleas and hinted his friends to come forward and have a feast of the young girl.

Cara closed her eyes in terror and with the last ounce of energy left in her, she lifted her knee and kicked the pig in the place the sun doesn't shine. It was her only hope and her legs took over like a rocket expelled into the sky.

But her success triumphed not for long. The man got up from the ground and soon raced behind to reach her. "You little piece of flesh, how dare you counter me?" He once again cornered her at the end of the alley. Cara looked to her left and right helplessly but not a single soul was around to rescue her. "Help!" She screamed with all her energy as her last resort when his hand was about to reach the collar of her shirt.

Seconds passed but the reprobate's hand never reached her. In her fright Cara opened a single eye and was speechless - a strong arm with bulging muscles covered in a coat was stopping the hand of the philanderer from reaching her.

I stood at my mother's open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest's voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone-he brought Charla with him. He claimed she'd had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
