HIS MISTAKES BEHIND FORGIVENESS Chapter 1 PROLOGUE

A new day, the same boy was there, in front of his little desk, the same but different child among his classmates.

White skin, slightly brown-haired and that pair of beautiful brown eyes is how we can describe him. Meantime, his classmates had skin as white as snow, blond-haired, sometimes curly-haired, other times straight-haired with blue or even green eyes.

The little boy was considered unique in that classroom and not exactly due to his physical, but for speaking two languages at that short age. With his family, he spoke in Spanish and by his surroundings; he made himself understand in English.

Everything in his life seemed to be perfect; his mother loved him, her aunt was willing to give her life for him, his grandmother (who wasn't exactly his grandmother by blood), was the typical grandma who pampered him even when he was wrong; and finally, he had his second aunt (who was not his aunt by blood either) who he played with after school. Whoever who met that beautiful angel would say his life was perfect and of course, he was happy with the life he had. However, there was a little issue he couldn't deal with.

"Joseph!" His teacher called him out at seeing him playing with his classmates, making them get distracted.

"Yes, Ms. Smith?" He responded well-educated. That beautiful pair of brown eyes went wide.

"Did you finish your craft?" The teacher asked while smoothing her voice tone. The least she would've wanted was to scare him.

"Yes, Ms. Smith," affirmed Joseph, politely making his teacher smile. Whoever met Joseph would fall for his cuteness.

"Well done, honey. But remember; not because you have finished the activity your classmates have too."

"I'm sorry, Ms. Smith." He looked down.

"Come here, honey. " She asked, feeling guilty. It was impossible not to feel guilty when he acted like that. Such an angel!

The little boy came to her. His teacher smiled, extending to him a pack of colored sheets. "Choose one, whichever you want."

The boy looked at her and then, he took a blue one. His favorite among all the colors he was seeing. Ms. Smith smiled reaching out a pen which fell on the little boy's hand.

"Go to your desk and write a letter to your father. Go!" She encouraged.

And once again, his little issue was there. Was it so difficult to write a letter to his father? Yes. It was. After all, he didn't have that perfect life that everyone could've imagined he owned.

He walked back to his desk thinking about the task he was asked to do.

He sat down thinking about all he wanted to say. He really wanted to write so much but didn't know how to start.

With a shaky hand, he took the pen over the sheet. Second by second, the pen started slipping on the page, creating words that could come into anyone's heart.

Dad

Hello, dad. How have you been?

I'd like to tell you many things but... I do not know how to start.

You know? I love school; I'm in the first place in my classroom. My mom loves me so much; we have a good life here, in the United States.

I've written to you many letters and every father's day, I go to the nearest mailbox and I send them to you without my mom realizing. I have never understood why you haven't replied to me, maybe it's because I haven't told you how I'm physically.

Daddy, my eyes are brown, my hair is brown too, even though it's not completely straight. My mom says my hair is curly. My nose is pretty and my mouth is small. I like my hands because, with them, I write letters to you. My mom says I have long eyelashes but when I look up, I don't see them.

I'm too tall because I can reach my own bowl and no one has to help me. I like cars, most of my clothes have cars impressed on them. Oh, I also like Batman and Superman. My aunt bought me a hamburger that was wrapped up in a sheet of Batman and Superman. I don't know how to explain that.

I don't know how you are physically, and maybe you haven't replied because I'd never told you how I am.

Now you know, maybe you want to meet me. You'll never get bored with me. I like to talk about all the things that happen to me in my days. My mom says I'm hard to turn off, but what she doesn't know is I talk too much because I've seen her crying alone. I don't want her to be sad. I know when I tell her about my day, she forgets her problems.

My mom is a princess. Maybe you didn't love her before because she had a big belly when I was inside her. Now, she's beautiful, daddy.

Dad, I just want to know something without making you mad at me. Where are you? My mom says you are a prince who has to do many things to keep me happy, but... I can't be happy if I don't know you.

If you are a busy prince, we can go to you. My mom always takes me wherever I want to go.

Remember; I love you even if I don't know you. I'll always be your son and I'll always be here for you. I'll leave my address on the back of the sheet if you want to meet me.

Joseph loves you.

He folded his letter after having written his address behind and sighed. Someday, his father would reply to him... someday. He just had to be a little more patient.

Someday, they will be sitting at the most beautiful park while eating a hamburger.

Someday, he would take his father to the activities that every father's day are prepared at his school to share with their sons and their daughters.

Someday, his mother and his father will be together. Even though, he didn't know when.

I arrived at my uncle’s mansion looking like human trash, clutching a one-way bus ticket and a duffel bag stuffed with old newspaper. My aunt looked at me with pure disgust, as if she could smell the poverty on my skin, but they needed me for one thing: to be a sacrificial lamb. They told me I was getting married to Julian Sterling, a man the elite circles called a violent monster locked in a cage. My uncle forced me to sign away my soul to save their failing fortune, while my cousin Kayla laughed and threw a torn dress at my feet, calling me a "rat from the Rust Belt." At the Sterling estate, the nightmare only deepened. Julian’s stepmother treated me like a horse she was forced to buy, ordering the staff to "burn off" my hair before locking me in the West Wing. I was thrown into a padded cell with a man who lunged at me, his heavy chains rattling against the floor as he roared with an animalistic rage that had already killed two nurses. They thought I was a pathetic, uneducated girl who "didn't read so good." They didn't know I had extorted two million dollars from my uncle before walking out the door, or that I was secretly recording every slap and insult they threw at me for future leverage. I huddled in the corner of that dark cell, letting them watch me tremble on the security feeds. I let Julian’s sister strike me with a riding crop and splash water in my face, playing the role of the clumsy, sobbing idiot to perfection. But the moment the cameras looped, the scared girl vanished. I pinned the "monster" to the floor, cut the neural tracking chip out of his neck with a hidden scalpel, and whispered into his ear as his blue eyes finally cleared. They thought they were sending a lamb to the slaughter. They had no idea they were sending a wolf to hunt a beast.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

I lived as the "scarred ghost" of the Stephens penthouse, a wife kept in the shadows because my facial burns offended my billionaire husband’s aesthetic. For years, I endured Kason’s coldness and my family's abuse, a submissive puppet who believed she had nowhere else to go. The end came with a blue folder tossed onto my silk sheets. Kason’s mistress was back, and he wanted me out by sunset, offering a five-million-dollar "silence fee" to go hide my face in the countryside. The betrayal cut deep when I discovered my father had already traded my divorce for a corporate bailout. My step-sister mocked my "trashy" appearance at a high-end boutique, while the sales staff treated me like a common thief. At home, my father threatened to cut off my mother's life-saving medicine unless I crawled back to Kason to beg for a better deal. I was the girl who took the blame for a fire she didn't start, the wife who worshipped a man who never looked her in the eye, and the daughter used as a human bargaining chip. I was supposed to be broken, penniless, and desperate. But the woman who stood up wasn't the weak Elease Finch anymore; she was Phoenix, a tactical predator with a $500 million secret. I signed the divorce papers without a single tear, walked past my stunned husband, and wiped the Finch family's bank accounts clean with a few taps on my phone. "Your money is dirty," I told Kason with a cold smile. "I prefer clean hands." The cage is open, the hunt has begun, and I’m starting with the people who thought a scar made me weak.

For seven years, I drank the bitter tonic my fiancé, Alpha Adrian, gave me, believing it would cure my "wolfless" defect. I was wrong. It was poison. He wasn't trying to heal me; he was keeping me weak so he could replace me with my foster sister, Ariel. When the fire consumed the Alpha's Wing, I was trapped under a burning beam, my legs crushed. Adrian kicked down the door. I reached out to him, screaming for help. But he didn't look at me. He looked at Ariel, who was lying on the floor in a silk nightgown. He scooped her up, cradling her like she was the only thing that mattered. I begged him not to leave me. Instead of helping, he used his Alpha Command on me, his voice booming with supernatural weight. "Stay put! I'll be back for you!" It was a lie. He used his power to freeze me in the inferno and left me to burn alive. I survived, only to watch him publicly reject me for her the next day, with my own father's blessing. They called me a "genetic dead end." They thought I would crawl away and die in shame. I didn't. I limped up the mountain to the Neutral Lands to find the one man everyone fears-the exiled Alpha, Garth Morgan. "I have the Gamma Bloodline Scroll," I told the massive figure emerging from the shadows. "I don't want your gratitude," Garth growled, his eyes like storm clouds. "I'm not here for gratitude," I replied, staring him down. "I'm here to make a deal with the devil."
