Treacherous game Chapter 1 Persuasion

The young man was tall,board_shouldered and dark complexion.he wore a sleeveless black jacket over am immaculately white tee_shirt and sat patiently, rather poised,on the low wall outside one of the classrooms on the ground floor of the university library complex .some student, mostly female in the adjacent classroom engaged in a lecture, stealthily glanced admiringly at him. They thought that he had a nice face,a handsome boy with large innocent eyes, thick black hair and an appealing physique.

Billy who was part of this lecture signalled to the other boys outside. He was certainly that Stanley was perched there ,awaiting him. He was there in time because the lecturer was almost rounding off the legal method lectures for the week.

*As I earlier intimated you, ours is the most dignifying organization you could ever join in this university or anywhere else*Stanley whispered in all seriousness. He was sharing the same desk with billy in a now completely empty classroom.

*Why not give me some time to arrange myself Stanley......when I've decided ,I promise I'll let you know* billy muttered hesitantly.

*Billy you don't have all the the in the world .Two booklet have already been filled up and the third is going to be the last* Stanley moaned.

*I've got to think* billy blurted.

*think over what ? how long do I have to continue with my persuasion? have I not told you that I'll link you up with the influential members of the organization who will help you sail through the interview? we were the beat pals at HOWAD and I wouldn't rope you I to something that is going to be detrimental to your success in this Institution* Stanley coaxed

*I know but.....*

*but what?* Stanley retorted sharply.

*of my own free will I'll join you guys but you can't force me into any kind of commitment when I'm not ready*

*the interview is coming up in about a month time I just wish that you'll be there to witness the caliber of people who want to be jackals. why not tell me that you are not interested in my invitation and I'll never bother you again.*

*it's okay Stanley, but give me twenty_four hours to make up mind .could you come to the maisonette by this time tomorrow?*

*Very well but don't be silly billy* Stanley warned scrutinizing the other boy's face in a potently dangerous countenance, quite alien to Stanley character.

*I don't understand you Stanley !*billy laughed as he rose from the desk, yawning and stretching out his arms.

*I heard that you are romancing the Redbeard* Stanley growled as he looked pointedly at billy.

*Redbeard?*

*damn you why are you pretending that you have never heard of Redbeard?*

*I have but ain't got nothing to do with them* billy said under his breath.

*can you swear that no guy from the Redbeard has approached you to join them?* Stanley probed .

*All I know is that I have not join any group as at now* billy replied emphatically.

*but you intend to join them sooner or later?*

*I.i.iii*

*I what billy?*

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.
