Chapter 1 The Parents' Past

Elena's gaze was drawn to Simoun and Cherie, two lovers who were happily talking inside a coffee shop. She wished she could ruin the two's day, but she couldn't think of anything to do so.

Elena is Cherie's best friend, and they both like Simoun, an athlete who is one of the most admired men at their university. Women admire him because he is attractive and intelligent.

Elena and Cherie are completely contradictory. Cherie is wealthy, gorgeous, and smooth-skinned, as well as intelligent and, most importantly, humble. She has a strong female charisma and is quite sociable. Elena is the cafeteria saleswoman's only child. She is not attractive on the outside or inside. Her eyes are blemished and she appears unfriendly. She's strange, and she has a horrible attitude. No one wanted to make friends with her because, according to stories, she lived in a community with a witch race. Since high school, Cherie has been his only friend.

Elena didn't want to go home to them because she didn't want to clean the cafeteria's hundreds of plates and pots. Elena's mother and grandma are with her at the moment. Elena didn't have a father as a child and never searched one out. Her life does not make her happy or satisfied. She aspires to be wealthy, like her friend Cherie, who can purchase anything she desires without looking at the price tag. Because she was penniless, she desired to leave. She also does not want a strict man to control her life, which is why she does not desire a father. She's okay with her mother not scolding her and not looking for her.

She just walked to their campus library and grabbed her black notebook, which she uses as a diary. She jots down everything she's thinking and all she wants. She expressed how he feels right now is in the notebook.

Every time I see Cherie and Simoun together, I become annoyed. Cherie is

stealing everything from me, something I never expected.

Elena's hands are shivering while she writes because of her rage. Students near her could not help but laugh because of the way of her writing. She looked at them sharply and put away her belongings and left the library. He hurriedly walked until he dropped his portable diary. Simoun's pictures spread on the floor so he picked them up immediately. The one who hit him helped him. Elena looked up to the person who asked, "Why do I

have a picture here?". She is correct in her assumption that it is Simoun. Simoun handed the photos over, puzzled as to why his photos were in Elena's.

"Ah, that's Cherie's. She ordered me to print pictures of you." Elena stammered as she smiled. Her smile was ear-splitting on those occasions because she had already talked to the man she first loved. "So you are-"

"Elena. "My name is Elena," she replied, holding out her hand, and Simoun smiled and shook hands with the young lady. "Nice to meet you Elena," he remarked. "By the way," he

added, "I think I should leave."

"It's great to see you again, Elena," Simoun said, smiling. Simoun took Elena's hand in his and moved away hurriedly. Elena shook her head, tucking her diary into her purse. He kept a smile on his face till he came home because he didn't expect to talk to Simoun. She had waited a long time for that opportunity, and it was finally granted. When she saw her mother sweeping over from their small cafeteria, her smile disappeared. When his mother suddenly yelled out to her, she walked straight and ignored her.

"Serve and we will eat."

Simoun and Cherie are on the phone. Simoun is playing Dota on his personal computer while Cherie cleans the room. They were blissfully conversing until Simoun remembered the photos of him he had seen at Elena's.

"Uhm, babe," Simoun said.

"Is it true that you requested that Elena print my photos?" Simoun asked his girlfriend. "Huh?" Cherie said, raising her eyebrows in surprise. Cherie responded, "I didn't say to print images of you because they don't have a printer or money."

Simoun inevitably creep out because of that. "Isn't Elena your friend? Is it true that they have a race of witches? " Simoun asked the girl, so Cherie just laughed because of that. "Who said you that? That's not true. Why do you seem afraid of Elena? "

"I'm not worried; it's just discomforting because almost all of my photos on our school's Facebook page have a printed picture on Elena's," Simoun explained. "Oh, don't worry; I'll tell you tomorrow."

Elena's mother commented as they ate dinner, "You need to quit studying." Today, their family's meal is leftover food from the cafeteria. Elena put down her fork and fixed her gaze on her mother. "What? No! "

"It's just a year old Elena," her mother replied, blowing air. "We simply need to save for your grandmother's procedure," her mother added as Elena rose up and placed her

palm on the table.

"Why don't you save your own money ?!"

Elena shouted at her mother so the two stopped eating. "Why are we so poor?! I hate this life!" Elena added while bursting into tears. Elena's mother stood up and slapped her daughter. "Don't complain because I don't want you to live! I try to work hard every day just to get you into the university you want!" her mother cried unable to hold back her tears.

"And I'm still indebted to that?! You are worthless! You're worthless mother!" Elena

shouted so she was slapped again. Angrier and stronger. Elena grabbed her cheek

and never finished her meal. He immediately went to his little room and there

poured out his anger.

The next day, Elena came in with her eyes wide open. She had no sleep and she cried incessantly. She didn't want to stop studying. When she stops, there is a good chance that she will never see Simoun again. She doesn't care if her grades are low, all she wants is to always see Simoun.

Elena cast a brief glance at Cherie and said, "Uhm, Elena, can you stop printing Simoun's pictures?" "You don't seem to mind what I do, Cherie!" And please don't interfere with my plans! " Elena yelled, attempting to draw the interest of their classmates.

"The only thing I want you to know is that you are scaring Simoun. Stop lurking; Simoun and I are together. Put an end to that fantasy! " Cherie snarled at Elena. The angry Elena pulled Cherie's hair because of frustration .

Elena yelled, "You stole everything, Cherie!" and then let go. He managed to snag a few strands of Cherie's hair. Elena took a quick look around before leaving with a strand of Cherie's hair in her hand.

Elena arrived home crying, which her grandmother, Alejandra, noticed right away. Despite the fact that the old lady was dying ill, she followed Elena to her room. "Elena..." Elena suddenly turned around to see her grandmother approaching her. She wiped her tears away and asked as to why she was calling her. "I'm going to leave something to you Elena, my body can't handle it any longer..." the elderly woman whispered softly, surprising her.

Elena asked of the old lady, "What will you inherit from me?" Her grandmother sat on the hallow blocks chair, her hand extended.

"I shall pass on my witchcraft powers to you..."

"Let's get married," Mia declares, her voice trembling despite her defiant gaze into Stefan's guarded brown eyes. She needs this, even if he seems untouchable. Stefan raises a skeptical brow. "And why would I do that?" His voice was low, like a warning, and it made her shiver even though she tried not to show it. "We both have one thing in common," Mia continues, her gaze unwavering. "Shitty fathers. They want to take what's ours and give it to who they think deserves it." A pointed pause hangs in the air. "The only difference between us is that you're an illegitimate child, and I'm not." Stefan studies her, the heiress in her designer armor, the fire in her eyes that matches the burn of his own rage. "That's your solution? A wedding band as a weapon?" He said ignoring the part where she just referred to him as an illegitimate child. "The only weapon they won't see coming." She steps closer, close enough for him to catch the scent of her perfume, gunpowder and jasmine. "Our fathers stole our birthrights. The sole reason they betrayed us. We join forces, create our own empire that'll bring down theirs." A beat of silence. Then, Stefan's mouth curves into something sharp. "One condition," he murmurs, closing the distance. "No divorces. No surrenders. If we're doing this, it's for life" "Deal" Mia said without missing a beat. Her father wants to destroy her life. She wouldn't give him the pleasure, she would destroy her life as she seems fit. ................ Two shattered heirs. One deadly vow. A marriage built on revenge. Mia Meyers was born to rule her father's empire (so she thought), until he named his bastard son heir instead. Stefan Sterling knows the sting of betrayal too. His father discarded him like trash. Now the rivals' disgraced children have a poisonous proposal: Marry for vengeance. Crush their fathers' legacies. Never speak of divorce. Whoever cracks first loses everything.
