Chapter 1 . Nightmares

A dark room, Dan can barely see anything. He tries to move and realizes being bound to a chair and gagged. He struggles to free himself to the point where the metal wires are cutting into the flesh. Dan looks around. He is bound to metal chair, this looks like an unused room, cobwebs everywhere. The windows are shaded, broken furniture scattered. The floor is dirty, and rug has more holes than you can count. There is an overhead bulb, but not bright enough for him to clearly make out things.

He seems to be at one end of the a very large room since he could not see much beyond and there was no sign of a door. As he struggles to move, he hears a metal door opening and footsteps approaching. Suddenly the lights go out and in the darkness he realizes a dark figure is walking up to him. It stops in front of him, and he sees a large bloodied hand extending towards him.

Dan suddenly tries to grab something in the air, as he woken up from his dream, sweating profusely. He is sitting on his bed and his breathing is rushed, took him couple of minutes to calm down. A girl was sleeping soundly next to him, with her back exposed. He could see the hickeys he left on her, proof of the wild night. He gets down from the bed, wears his boxers and walks to kitchen to get a glass of water. He grabs a bottle from the fridge and sits down on the sofa. The same nightmare again. It's been a while since it last happened. Why now?

Dan checks the time, its 5am. He couldn't believe that he had slept for just a couple of hours. The nightmare seemed to last an eternity. Last night was crazy, it was his friend's bachelor party. He reached home just after midnight, early by his standards, but what followed kept him awake till early hours. Doesn't matter. He would not be able to sleep anymore. He goes to his gym in the basement to start with his morning routine. After an hour, he comes up to the guestroom to find the girl still sleeping. He doesn't bother waking her up and goes to his bedroom, washes up and leaves for office. His maid should be in soon, and knows how to do with his one night stands.

It doesn't take him long to reach office, since it is still early. There are very few people in the office.

"Good morning, Mr. Anderson" he is greeted by his chief of security, Eric Summers as he enters into the building.

"Good morning, Eric. Everything good? How is Irene?" Dan nodes at him.

"Yes, Mr. Anderson. Irene started college last week. She is enjoying it." Eric softens up at the mention of his daughter.

"Good, take care" Dan says before entering into the elevator.

Eric and Ryan, Dan's secretary, are probably the only people to whom Dan would talk informally. To others, he is the arrogant, cold and ruthless CEO, Daniel Anderson. Eric has known Dan since he was boy. Dan used to play in Eric's cabin sometimes, when he visited his father. Not to mention, he is one of the youngest recipients for the Businessman of the year award at 26, and the most richest in the country.

At 6'3, his handsome chiseled face exudes a devilish charm.

Daniel Anderson is the young CEO for the Andersons and Sons Ltd. The youngest and only son, he took over the business from his father at 22, when it one of the top five companies in the country. Within four years, he has made Andersons is number one company, with branches all over the world.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
