Beloved Substitute Chapter 1 Being Kissed

The dark night, accompanied by violent storms, made the sky, which was already too mysterious, even more creepy.

In the living room, messy clothes were scattered all over the floor.

A man and a woman huddled together in love, naked. The quiet night was mixed with heavy rain, along with a woman's low cry of ecstasy.

All of a sudden...

"Bang!" The door was pushed open.

Aria Rice, who had just returned from the night shift, looked in disbelief at the man and woman "doing exercises" in front of her, and their entwined bodies, her brain humming.

The movement was interrupted, and the man turned his head unpleasantly. When he saw the girl standing in a daze at the door, his brows frowned and he pushed away the woman in his arms without hesitation.

"Aria?"

"Uh... I'm sorry to bother you..."

Aria looked like a student who had made a mistake. While lowering her head, she turned around quickly and rushed into the torrential rain like a waterfall unhesitatingly.

In the gloomy alley, Aria finally stopped. Looking back, there was nothing behind her, not even a shadow.

Everything was quiet, except for thunder...

And, her accelerating heartbeat.

"There..."

"We can't let that guy go!"

"Move..."

Before Aria got time to exhale, she heard footsteps and the sound of chasing behind her.

Her heart was in her throat immediately.

Damn, didn't she just happen to run into him and another woman doing that kind of thing? Did he have to take so much trouble to send so many people to catch her?

No, she definitely couldn't fall into the bastard's hands, otherwise... she was not finished, but dead!

Thinking of this, Aria rushed to the other end of the alley without hesitation.

Suddenly...

A big hand grabbed her arm, and the huge inertia made Aria fall down to the ground. "Bang!" A layer of water was splashed all over, and then a powerful force followed. Within a blink, she was pressed under a human body.

A dark shadow blocked her view.

Was it a man?

Aria's eyes widened in horror. Just when she was about to open her mouth and yell "Ah" in a reflex, her lips were blocked by a warm object...

"Hmm..."

She was actually kissed?

Damn!

Aria waved her limbs frantically, trying desperately to escape.

"If you dare to make a sound, I will kill you!" A cold, small voice sounded in her ears.

Aria's brain hummed, but before she came back to her senses, her body was turned over. She was now pressing the man instead.

"You!"

"Don't move!" The man roared as he pressed a gun against her abdomen. Her body was pressed down firmly, totally covering the man under her.

Aria's heart stopped beating instantly.

She... was kidnapped?

What should she do?

At this moment, she racked her brains, hoping to get rid of all this as soon as possible.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps behind her approached quickly, accompanied by the messy voice of a group of men.

"Where is he?"

"He's here..."

"Don't let him get away!"

"Boom..."

A gunshot almost frightened Aria half to death.

She obediently lowered her head tightly, her whole body in a stiff state, and even her breathing stopped. She was afraid of being shot, and even more afraid that the man under her would pull the trigger in anger.

She didn't want to die yet...

"Asshole, where is he?"

"He's here just now..."

"Fuck off! Find him immediately, or you don't need to come back to see me!"

"Yes, boss!"

The group of people quickly disappeared, and the noisy night instantly turned silent.

Aria moved her body boldly, fearing that she might irritate the person under her and the gun, but when she just got up, her eyes opened in horror.

"Ah... blood!"

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.
