The most notorious hunters of the night were always thought to be just a myth, but they were real. Rohit is an average university student working his way through school as he holds down two part-time jobs. He doesn't get involved with a lot of things around him unless it's concerning his job, but one fated night changes all that. During his graveyard shift, he encounters a young woman of similar age, and quickly finds out that she's a vampire, and from a noble lineage too. After he directs her pursuers away, Ingrid von Anfang takes an interest in the young man, whom she thinks will help her in her mission. Though borne from the first vampire bloodline, Ingrid was robbed of a normal life from birth, and wants no part in the underworld. Meanwhile, the Vampire Hunters have dispatched an assassin to discard the noble heiress, but her interaction with Rohit may very well help her sway from her purpose, which had been ingrained in her since birth. Rohit's life then becomes all about helping two girls find their purpose in this world, as he too tries to balance his own ambitions. The cycle of the hunter and the hunted converges to a single route all because of one man mediating a millennium of conflict.

Blood Awakening Chapter 1 Torrential Encounter

They were all just myths-fairy tales and horror stories used to scare people into being weary of nighttime. That's all they were, and no one would bother thinking twice about what they could do to avoid it. They just would, and in the comfort of the daylight, they'd be free to carry on their business. A supernatural suspicion to keep people safe, but it was all in their heads.

However, the rumors and suspicions span across all cultures in the world, so it couldn't just be a myth, right? No one likes to admit when they're wrong, and can live in denial for their entire lives ignoring what's been in front of them this whole time.

The myth known as the "vampire" was very much real, but only certain people were allowed to take action to combat these denizens-collectively known as the Vampire Hunters-as they trained for centuries to battle their nighttime foes. They were ordinary people during the day, living their lives, paying the bills, and doing everything normal people would, but at night, they were vicious slayers, hunting their prey in order to keep the rest of the human population safe.

As a result of their longstanding disagreement, the vampires concealed themselves in a realm parallel to the real world, where they could live peacefully, however the looming presence of the Hunters still threatened their existence.

In the late hours of the night shift, the rain was coming down hard. The pitter-patter of each drop sounded like hail falling from the sky. The roads barely had any cars, due to the torrential weather, as streetlights and stoplights barely leaked their light through.

She was running away as fast as her injured body would let her. An agile being was she to be hopping across rooftops, and darting through alleyways with silver bullets embedded within her. To any normal vampire, it would've hindered their movement, but she was no ordinary fiend of the night.

That's why they'd been chasing her for so long, but now that she's wounded, the one-hundred and twenty-sixth Descendant was in serious danger from the Vampire Hunters. For every myth, there's a beginning, as Ingrid von Anfang was a direct descendant of the first vampire to exist, but her lineage on this Earth was dwindling away, just like her kin, as they've been sentenced to continue to hide in the alcoves of the eight continents.

The Hunters made haste against this creature of the night, by pursuing her direct movements, as well as circumventing to corner her. The rain provided a great cover, but it seemed like nothing could escape the Hunters' eagle eyes. Their dark cloaks covered their bodies as they appeared mysterious and menacing.

They brandished chrome finished handguns, as they shot more silver bullets towards the young woman.

When they made contact with Ingrid, who let out an agonizing cry, she fell down off a rooftop onto the slippery asphalt. Her long, blonde hair draping onto the ground, as she limped to stand up before she sustained any more damage. Somehow, she was able to escape her pursuers and collapse by a dumpster in a dimly lit alley.

The gut-wrenching smell of soaked trash made Ingrid twist her nose, but it definitely masked her trail enough. She sat there as the rain poured upon her, and her crimson blood washed away. Any normal vampire would've drowned from the effects of something simple as rainwater, due to its purifying effects on their bodies, but Ingrid was special-hence the reason she'd been pursued. The water drenched her fair skin as she muttered under her breath, "I never asked for this... I just wanted to be normal..."

She slowly blinked a few times, as her vision grew hazy, before she closed her eyes for good. Her body rested against the trash like a doll abandoned by its owner, while her chest heaved slowly.

Not too far away, at a local convenience store, one of the workers, a young man in his early twenties, was toting two bags of trash, before tossing them into the dumpster's opening. He stretched his arms and let out a sigh. "Just two more hours 'til my shift ends," Rohit exhaled in relief. "Just gotta mop and hope that guy doesn't chat my ear off." He shook his head, thinking about his distracting coworker. "I hate talking bad about others," he continued, "but he's a real drag..."

The rain continued to pour down hard, but the young man wasn't in a rush to get back inside, so he admired the surroundings seen through the dropping water, while he wore his raincoat. Rohit closed his eyes, while facing the direction of the main road in front of the store, for a moment, before heading back. He took a deep breath and let his mind be at ease with the sound of rain.

It'd been a long night initially, as customers typically swamped the store on a Friday night, but because of the rain, it hindered most of the traffic. This left the workers in the store to virtually do nothing except clean, but one was quite the chatterbox.

Rohit was too nice to tell him off, so he just retreated to the kitchen where he could do his own thing, and his coworker could pass the time on his phone.

With one final sigh, the young man proceeded to head back inside, until he suddenly heard a low moan coming from the alleyway on the other side of the dumpster. He turned around, startled, as his body flinched from the unnatural sound amidst the pouring rain.

He slowly walked towards it and peeped around the dumpster, where he saw two slender legs donned in black boots and stockings extending forward. He also noticed red liquid trickling through the cracks of the concrete floor towards the center of the alley.

"What the-" he gasped, flinching back, but his curiosity kept pushing his legs to move closer to the figure lit slightly by the alley lamp over the dumpster. He saw a girl, who looked to be his age, slowly breathing, as her eyelids blinked incrementally.

It looked like she was weary and about to pass out, but when she slowly lifted her chin to meet the young man's cinnamon, startled gaze with her crimson eyes, she leapt towards him, pinning him against the ground.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was at my own engagement party at the Sterling estate when the world started tilting. Victoria Sterling, my future mother-in-law, smiled coldly as she watched me struggle with a cup of tea that had been drugged to ruin me. Before I could find my fiancé, Ryan, a waiter dragged me into the forbidden West Wing and locked me in a room with Julian Sterling, the family’s "fallen titan" who had been confined to a wheelchair for years. The door burst open to a frenzy of camera flashes and theatrical screams. Victoria framed me as a seductress caught in the act, and Ryan didn't even try to listen to my pleas, calling me "cheap leftovers" before walking away with his pregnant mistress. When I turned to my own family for help, my father signed a document severing our relationship for a five-million-dollar payout from Julian. They traded me like a commodity without a second thought. I didn't understand why my own parents were so eager to sell me, or how Ryan could look at me with such disgust after promising me forever. I was a sacrifice, a pawn used to protect the family's offshore accounts, and I couldn't fathom how every person I loved had a price tag for my destruction. With nowhere left to go, I married Julian in a bleak ceremony at City Hall. He slid a heavy diamond onto my finger and whispered, "We have a war to start." That night, inside his secret penthouse, I watched the paralyzed man stand up from his wheelchair and activate a screen filled with the Sterling family's darkest secrets. The execution had officially begun.
