Chapter 1 Liliana Intro

Liliana Pov:

Every day is a blessing from god. We should cherish it. I love my life. I live my life to the fullest. I love to sleep a long time but unfortunately, I am not lucky in that. The alarm sound breaks my wonderful dream. I know it's time to move my ass from my bed. I took shower and get ready for my office.

I am working in my dream company. I just can't still believe now that I am working in "E.A Industries" one of the best top companies here. As usual, on the way, I took my takeout from my regular shop "Caffey café" before I go to my work. Uncle Simon is a kind and cheerful person he owns Caffey café. Here you will get the best coffee and choco donut. It's just yummy.

I reached my office and greeted receptionist Lara with Good Morning. She replied with a smile. I reach my cabin which is on the 31st floor opposite my boss office. My boss "Edward Atticus" a Greek god such a handsome person I have ever seen.

Everyone fears him including me. I am working for 3years now as his secretary. He is a man of perfection. Everything he does with perfection no one can pinpoint any mistake in his work. That is why he is in 1st place.

I prepare his usual black tea and went to his office. I knock on the door waiting for this permission to get in. I heard a strong voice as "come in". I place his Black tea on the desk with a smile on my face. He is busy checking the file. I started to report his schedule for the day.

"Miss. Berk cancels today's meeting after lunch. You can leave after lunch since there won't be any work for you."

My mind started to plan how to spend the remaining day. After confirming with Mr. Atticus about the meetings I went to my cabin.

I emerged in my work that I didn't even notice Mr. Atticus standing near my cabin door.

"Yes Mr. Atticus, How may I help you?" I asked him.

"Miss. Berk hope you complete your work. I am leaving for lunch. I will drop you on my way" he said

I immediately wrap my things and left for the day. On our way back we went to an expensive hotel for lunch. I hate this kind of place. Rich people I thought.

I was looking at the menu and the price. God why it's this costly? My mind is calculating with my monthly budget. Poor me! Mr. Atticus is looking at me like he understands my struggle with the order.

He said "Miss. Berk you don't need to burn the menu with your eyes. I brought you here I will pay so let's order. I am hungry"

After lunch, Mr. Atticus drops me at home. I took a hot shower and cook my favorite Pasta. Spending my remaining time, watching my favorite Korean dramas on Netflix.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancĂ©, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."
