Chapter 1 The Beginning

ELIZABETH:.

" Dena run!" I yelled as I and my best friend Radena ran for our lives, I looked back to see Dena slowing down and that was when I saw him, he was holding a gun and his eyes were dark, he looked ready to kill and he was getting closer.

"Lizzie run, at least one of us can make it out alive" she yelled and smiled at me.

" no no no" I yelled. I know what that smile means so I run back not minding the fact that he was close and he was holding a gun. I had to get to Dena fast. We both have to get out of this place alive. Together.

" just hold on Dena I'm coming!" I yelled at her but she just stood there not moving an inch from the spot and still smiling at me. I could already feel her presence sleeping away from me. I just had to run faster than I am doing now I can reach her.. I can reach her.

" Elizabeth just leave!!. Please leave!. I will try to stall him while you get out of here" she yelled aloud

" No! I'm not leaving you here. I will always be there for you. I promise nothing will happen to you. I'm coming" I yelled back and then I saw a spark of belief in her eyes . she started running forward too and I didn't want to wait long so I also ran forward again. As we both reached out to each other.... GUNSHOTS!!

" No!!" I yelled as I switched on the bed lamp, yet another nightmare. Mum said its going to leave me one day. I could feel my heart pounding against my chest as my eyes filled with tears.

"Honey!" My door bursts open to reveal my mum still in her night gown. She had the terrifying look she has every night after I wake up from one of my nightmares. She didn't wait before crawling into my bed, hugging me so close to her.

" mum, I killed her.. I killed her" I whispered as spilled from my eyes. I was shaking all over as mum still held me tight.

" no you didn't.. You didn't kill anyone Elizabeth. You didn't do anything" she said, her voice close to breaking down.

" No, I'm sure I killed her, mum I killed her" I yelled, screaming loudly now, I'm sure our neighbors could hear us. She patted the back of my head gently.

" no sweety its just a dream, just another bad dream. You didn't kill anyone, you didn't. Its just a dream, its not true, its alright" she said trying hard not to break down.

" mum don't let him take me, he is coming for me" I cried as I finally threw my arms around mum as I sobbed profusely. Her hands enclosed around me, tighter than before.

" no honey, you are safe. No one us coming for you" she said as she rocked me like a baby. I was shaking all over. I really wanted to believe her.

" no one would hurt you. I promise you" she said . I didn't reply her. I just held unto her cloth and cried but one thing was sure, I just couldn't believe her.

ADAM:

" sweety you seriously have to hurry up or you will be late for school" I could hear mum yell from the living room. I wiggled out of bed and tiptoed slowly into the bathroom. Damn I hate school!. I put my tooth brush in my mouth as I brushed all the morning breath away. Don't want to real of whatever we had last night.

" Adam!" Now mum's voice was close, very close. It was like she was right in the room with me. I thought.

" I'm in the room with you now hurry up and take your bath. Cheryl is waiting downstairs" mum said. Then i frowned.

" mum I told you not to enter my room anyhow or anytime you feel like. What if I was naked?" I asked frowning at her.

" its not like its something I haven't seen . now hurry up and come out so you won't the bus to school" she said before leaving.

" Aargh!. I'm fucking eighteen. Respect my privacy" I yelled as I entered the bathtub.

🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

I removed my headphone from my ear as Cheryl and I entered the bus. You must be wondering who Cheryl is . well she is my younger sister, seventeen years old and yes we go to the same school. I waved at my friends as I spot them.. Then I walked to the back and sat with them.

We all have cars.. Its just hot girls take the bus plus my car was seized by my mum cause of something. And also I take the bus of a girl... She is my mystery girl.

"Hey Adam" Shawn my best friend as we gave each other a fist bump and then I sat down between he and Cole. Cole was one of our buddies. We are just five in our group; Cole, Curt, Shawn, Kelvin and me. We have been best buddies since preschool. Don't wanna go into details anyways.

" so how was the party Friday night?" Curt asked us because he didn't come as he had to go for a family dinner, so boring right?

Spending your entire weekend with bunch of weirdos you don't even know you are related to . I mean its super boring, I don't wanna face that.

" seriously Curt you missed a lot. Plus Harleen was there" Cole said. Harleen was the second hottest chick at our school and she was also a cheerleader and her parents were also rich. Cole has had a huge crush on her since 7th grade . end of story, that's Cole's life.

" it was very nice and as Cole was saying, Harleen was skinny dipping" kelvin cut through Cole's words and smirked. Kelvin was the bad ass player.

" Shawn?" Curt asked then Shawn shrugged. As usual I always had to drag Shawn to these crazy parties every Friday night. I mean which guy prefers staying at home on Friday night just to watch Netflix . girls do it and I still think its stupid but why would my best buddy want to behave like a sissy.. Its uncool.

" whatever Shawn you are so boring" Cole said hitting Shawn's shoulder. Then Shawn just smiled at him.

" I guess you guys are waiting for what I thought about the party?" I asked and they all nodded.

" well to me, it was epic but as usual. I only have two words for it" I said smirking.

" hot sex" the four of them said as they each rolled their eyes. I chuckled

" yeah hot sex" I said admitting to what they said. I mean why would you go to a party if it wasn't to get laid. Well I know you can dance, ride, get high, get drunk, make out with anyone and also have a quickie in the bathroom but the most important thing is getting laid.

" a party is never a party until you get laid" I said and apparently the four of them said it together same time as me.

" would you guys please let me say my lines ?" I asked as we burst out laughing. I was laughing so hard I could feel the tears in my eyes. That was when the bus stopped.

And she entered.....

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.
