Chapter 1 1

The city of Italy was cold in the morning, as the early morning breeze blew the curtain that sent shivers to the sleeping Jane, who wrapped her blanket tightly as if dreaming of something. "So, he was the traitor among us? we should probably find a suitable punishment for him," Said the most ruthless person among them.

With a lot of anger in his eyes, he removed his gun from his pocket and aimed at all the glass cups lined up perfectly well, before shooting at them. "How dare he try to go against our brotherhood? I trusted him so much," he said with so much disgust.

He spat out saliva on the floor, then used the back of his palm to wipe away his mouth before using his leg to cover it up. "What do you suggest is the most suitable punishment?" he asked his fellow gang.

They murmured some words between themselves, finally one of them spoke out. One of the men in the gang who was well-known as SNAKE, Immediately suggested they cut his hands off. Wow, how did I even know his name was the snake? "Sure that a very good idea." The leader of the gang nodded in approval.

He turned to face the guy, who was thrown forcefully on the floor like a beggar. He gave a satisfactory smile that meant he had won. "Call that girl Jane in here," he commanded. "Yes, sir," one of the gang said bending his head before leavening.

Why was My name being called? That was my name. Immediately I came In, I knelt in front of the boy whose head was bent and was waiting for his fate, this isn't real, right? Why did I have to look at him with such pity? "Give her the ax!" The gang leader commanded. "Cut his arm out, or I kill all of you in the camp." He said with finality.

"No, no, I can't do that!" I objected. "You can't?" He asked. "Get me, two kids!" Did he command? or is he trying to trick me into committing this kind of crime. That I might live to regret.

They came in with the kids. "Why are they here? don't touch them!" I said I moved closer to the kids who were pushed in, I held their hands, hiding them at my back. I kept widening my hands to indicate that, he shouldn't hurt them. "Then do what you were asked to do!" I looked at the boy who was thrown on the floor.

He looked up, staring directly at me. Not knowing what to do. I knelt and started crying. "Please don't let me do this!" I pleaded. Maybe something better please," I begged further making him laugh so hard. He felt he was in full control, yes he was really in control, no doubt. "Okay, marry me!"

I woke up immediately from my sleep. I looked around and felt thankful that I wasn't in such a state. "It was a dream, definitely a dream." I muttered to myself. I touched my eyes, they were tears dripping from them. Wow, it felt real. Why was I there? God, please don't make me fall into such people.

I stood up from bed, not in my usual mood of being cheerful. My body felt weak and tired, not like I did any work at home. According to my mum, I was too young. I got to the living room but nobody was there. It was not usual for my home to be so lonely and quiet on a Sunday morning.

I was about to go to check my parent's room. when the parlor door swing opened. My dad walked in. "Good morning, Daddy," I said Running to wrap my hands around his waist. But he acted scary by pushing me away. it was not his normal way, not to return my greeting. He was always cheerful, happy, and ready to play, instead, he shouted at me.

"What are you still doing here? go call your mother for me!" I was so scared, that I ran upstairs as fast as I could. Shouting my mom's name, tears wailed down my eyes. She must be in the toilet, I thought hard. I locked the door of her bedroom only to see her coming out of the kitchen. "Jane, come and help me in the kitchen," My mum said, I nodded and lifted my face.

"have you been crying?" She asked. "No," I replied. "Ummm, mummy." I called. "what is it?" she asked. "Daddy wants to see you in the parlor now!" I could see the panic in her eyes. "Okay?" she said removing the apron and handing it over to me. "Take this, go cut the onions! I will be back in a few minutes." She said before leaving. why was my daddy this way today? I hurriedly cut the onions and went to peep through the staircase. ***************

"Why are you still here? I taught I made it clear, you should pack your things and leave my house!" Daddy said, without looking at mum in the face. "But I am sorry," I heard my mum say from the stairs. "Sorry?" He asked. Through the little hole in the staircase, I could see my mum go on her knees, holding my dad's leg.

He kicked her hands off his trousers, Making her fall heavily. What was happening there? I was just 9, I didn't know what had happened between them and how to separate my parents. My elder sister wasn't at home but school.

I was in grade 6, I wasn't an adult. I had no say in this. I hid at the staircase, crying so hard, why was mum and daddy fighting? then I heard my daddy say, "Who is the father of Jane and Larey?" I could see the confusion on mum's face.

"What do you mean?" I heard mum scream in between tears. "You are the father, who else?" she asked. My dad dropped some documents on the floor close to my mum. "What is this?" She asked. "You could explain opening that." he said raising his gaze from her. Mum unfold the envelope, while dad faced the wall like he was waiting for something.

I was so scared because daddy and mommy were my only friends. I don't want them fighting. It hurt to see them scream at each other. After mum was done going through the envelope. She laid down on the floor crying her eyes out. "This is wrong.

There must be some mixup somewhere." I heard her scream some words (why me GOD). My dad looked at my mum in disgust and said. "woman! I shouldn't come back and meet you here or you won't like the consequences." did he mean what he said? All that I understood was that daddy wasn't my real papa, Tears wailed more. I ran to the parlor and knelt in front of daddy, tears dropping so hard. "FORGIVE US DADDY!" But he surprised me by kicking my hands off and raged away.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.

I spent four hours preparing a five-course meal for our fifth anniversary. When Jackson finally walked into the penthouse an hour late, he didn't even look at the table. He just dropped a thick Manila envelope in front of me and told me he was done. He said his stepsister, Davida, was getting worse and needed "stability." I wasn't his wife; I was a placeholder, a temporary fix he used until the woman he actually loved was ready to take my place. Jackson didn't just want a divorce; he wanted to erase me. He called me a "proprietary asset," claiming that every design I had created to save his empire belonged to him. He froze my bank accounts, cut off my phone, and told me I’d be nothing without his name. Davida even called me from her hospital bed to flaunt the family heirloom ring Jackson claimed was lost, mocking me for being "baggage" that was finally being cleared out. I stood in our empty home, realizing I had spent five years being a martyr for a man who saw me as a transaction. I couldn't understand how he could be so blind to the monster he was protecting, or how he could discard me so coldly after I had given him everything. I grabbed my hidden sketchbook, shredded our wedding portrait, and walked out into the rain. I dialed a number I hadn't touched in years—a dangerous man known as The Surgeon who dealt in debts and shadows. I told him I was ready to pay his price. Jackson and Davida wanted to steal my identity, but I was about to show the world the literal scars they had left behind.
