Nathan's dream was just to be a singer, like his idol Maria Claire, but he didn't expect his idol to be his friend, and even more, his girlfriend! He feels like he's on the top of the world now as he gains fame, but soon the events start to turn as the media keeps on watching them. Would this be the end of them both?

Chapter 1 one

A lot of aspiring singers have pursued their passion in singing in the grandiose city of Seoul, Korea. They all strive to become the best and out of all the people in their league. A lot of them have fallen out of the constant competition yet a lot of them still has that burning fire that rages deep inside each of their hearts.

Each of them train as hard as they can and are willing to sacrifice anything in exchange for the wanted fame. They go through rigorous training, so it's not new news that they are suffering physically and mentally. Despite the pain and the stress, they still pursue. Toxic, yes it is, yet none of them want to let go of the rope.

The rope that makes their hands bleed, but they don't want to end up in the deep pit of failure.

They sacrifice hours, days, months and even years just to improve in their field. Of course, there are some who just choose to end it all, because of the peer pressure burdening their already heavy shoulders. Tragic isn't it?

All these singers have different motives and backgrounds, but they all all have one goal: to be at the top. Hard it may seem, these singers give it their all, not minding the effects of their actions, or how much they'd suffer afterwards.

They all believe that they have the gift of singing, that they only need to increase their skill and mastery, but through the eyes of the stern judges who always search for perfection, there's always something lacking in each one.

"Skill doesn't come with talent." they say as they close the curtains on those who couldn't pass.

The harsh standards of voice quality from the judges also crush other singers' dreams, not to mention the hate from the other competitors and bashers.

One striving soul though, has reached the top, through perseverance.

Some say it's pure luck, but she slams the truth in their faces.

Maria Claire is a young lady blessed with an angelic voice. She owns the title of "The Best above all" because she, from a young age, went through the same training, and even did it harder, just to prove she was the best.

In the end her efforts paid off as she gained the fame and the title, but who knows who'll be her next rival? Even though she had competitors, she had always claimed the win against them. Because of this, a lot of people were envious of her singing gift and vowed to reach her level.

Every year, she trains to the best she can just to maximize her voice's potential.

Maria Claire has a wide vocal range, and her voice could surely move you to tears. It was loud, yet sweet to the ears. It was a perfect music for the weary soul, some say.

She was favored in the judges' sight not only because of her talent, but also because of her family's wealth. She was marked by her good looks which mostly lead to other people envying her.

She had an ocean of fans all around the world, but the hate was also astounding. Still, she tried to maintain a smile and shut off the haters.

Yes, a lot of people tried to claim the title from her, but she stood strong on her ground and stayed on top.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
