On A Dismayed Night Chapter 1 001.

Somewhere in the city of Lagos, a pretty young nurse just closed from work and was driving to her boyfriend's house.

Earlier that week, Jane and her boyfriend had an heated argument that almost led to the end of their relationship but she made sure she did everything possible to make things work out right again.

Mayo had insisted on having sex with her, but she wasn't sure if she was ready for it yet. She had begged him to wait till she was ready and he agreed until the last few months when he began to pester her so much.

What's so special about having sex? They've made out several times.

She decided to visit Mayo after work on Friday evening, he hadn't been picking her calls since they made up. She wondered what was wrong again.

On her way to the apartment she rented for Mayo, she halted at a supermarket and bought his favorite perfume, she paid the cashier and trotted back to where she parked her car.

She got inside the car and smiled at herself.

"I hope he likes it." She muttered, she started the car and zoomed off.

She got to Mayo's apartment and hesitated for a while before getting out of the car, she grabbed the box of perfume and gently walked into the house, she pressed the doorbell but no one answered after two more attempts she knocked at the door when he didn't answer her still, she tried the lock. Fortunately, the door was unlocked, she entered into the house and found no one.

"Babe." She called out, but no reply came.

'Is he still angry?' She thought.

She walked further and climbed the stairs with the little strength left in her, she got to the bedroom and opened the door without knocking.

Why would she knock? she was in her boyfriend's house.

She cleaned her face to be sure of what she was seeing, Mayo was on top of some girl NAKED!

he was riding her, they were literally having sex, their naked bodies were colliding and he was groaning pleasurably aas he increased his thrusting inside of her.

"Mayo!" She held unto the door for support, was she daydreaming?

"No, this can't be." She was befuddled.

"What do you want here?" Mayo asked rolling his eyes at her, just interrupted the fun he was having.

"Bastard!" She moved closer to the bedside, and yanked the blanket away from the two naked bodies. "How dare you?" She spat angrily at him.

He couldn't look her in the eyes.

"Bastard!" How could he cheat on her after everything she did for him? Just how?

Tears streamed down her face, men are unpredictable! Yes, she knew that. She shouldn't have trusted him.

All she Wanted to do right there was to grab a knife and cut his dangling dick off but she controlled herself and flounced out of the room.

She couldn't hold back the tears that fell as she descended the stairs -she knew at that moment that they were done, she was done with him.

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband's Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn't find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn't even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father's legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn's party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara's health and managing every detail of Caden's empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I'd drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause-if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I'd forgotten.

My five-year-old daughter was dying in the ICU, her heartbeat replaced by the continuous, electronic scream of a flatline. I gripped her cold hand, my throat sealed shut by a terror so absolute I couldn't even cry out. I dialed my husband Grayson's private number, the one reserved only for me and his assistants. He declined the call instantly. A second later, a text buzzed against my palm: "In a meeting. Do not disturb. Stop calling." Five miles away, Grayson was at a luxury gala, adjusting his silk tie and laughing with Belle Escobar. He told her I was just being "dramatic" and using our daughter's "fever" as an excuse to avoid the event. He had no idea Effie's heart had already stopped. When I finally reached our penthouse, soaked from the rain and carrying Effie's small socks in a plastic bag, Grayson didn't even look at me. He snapped at me for ruining the hardwood floors and asked if I'd left Effie with the nanny just to "feel sorry for myself." Three days later, while I buried our daughter in a small, lonely ceremony, Grayson was at the Hamptons. Belle posted a photo of him golfing with the caption: "A mental health day with the boys." He didn't even attend the funeral, but he returned home demanding I clear out Effie's room to make a study for Belle's son. The injustice burned through me until there was nothing left. I swallowed a handful of sleeping pills, desperate to join my daughter. But instead of the darkness, I woke up to blinding lights and the scent of Grayson's expensive cologne. I was standing in a ballroom, wearing a blue silk dress I had already burned. Above me, a banner read: "Happy 5th Birthday Kaiden & Effie." I was back, exactly one year before the tragedy. This time, I wasn't going to be the grieving wife. I was going to be their worst nightmare.
