As a poor family struggling to get through the day, my parents chose to be sailors, a dangerous but quite generous job. Until one day, my life as a child tore down, when they sailed to a point of no return. I still recall all our memories together. Today I am marrying an independent girl who survived her own war, I know they would be proud of me. " minds and souls have to meet before bodies do" That's how I would describe a strong relationship. What is more important than where I am now is how I got here. While you will be reading my story, you will be living my daily struggles and fears.

Against All Odds Chapter 1 Marriage Day

The night had taken over, rain was falling, it was hard to tell if it was from the eyes of the attenders, or the blue cloud-flecked sky. It was even harder to tell whether those were happy or sad ones. A mix, between both i would say. Harmonie stood by the door, ready to get out, with her gorgeous long-delayed, and simple white wedding dress.

She had only one thought in mind; Do not let anyone ruin your happiness tonight, princess! I have been through much, nothing compared to those nights I spent naked under the rain. Yes the rain she said in a soft tone, just inside her head, but those facial expressions of hers showed all.

Her face turned pale, as she recalled for a moment, her covering up with old wet newspaper against the wind, the rain, the darkness of the night, and worst of all the fate that awaits her. "Tomorrow" was a word she feared more than anything and anyone.

In her words; " You never know what tomorrow brings, but from experience it only brought despair, or so I thought, at least. Especially for a lonely girl, surviving was the least to describe it all, it was war. But war with what, I never knew, was it with time, circumstances, luck, people or was it with myself? I really don't know. It just felt at times that death was the only cure to it, but I held on to life with my hands and teeth, I couldn't give up the life they gave me. We may argue it was not the dream life i always wanted but it was still worth fighting for"

Most people get to be loved from a young age, but Harmonie was no normal girl, loving herself and the memories of those she cherished was the only motivation for her to grow and flourish.

She always thought in her mind; " I may not have inherited a house, car or money from my beloved parents. But coming to think about it, they gave me something way more precious. They left me with their wide smile and Strong inherited will."

" Sadly, I did not get to know them very well, it all happened so fast, but I still hold on to those few memories. Sometimes I fear that one day I will wake up and forget their faces and how they used to look at me with their wide blue loving eyes." She wasn't wrong to think that way, since she does not even hold on to one single picture to remind her. In a soft movement she makes sure that a small necklace is around her neck " No I didn't forget about you, you are the only physical memory of them necklace" she replied inside her head.

Before she faints into those black ideas, standing on her right, he quickly grabs her hand, reassuring her, it's her husband-to-be, Blake. In his words she found the peace she was searching for, not just today, but throughout their whole time together. " Honey, We are finally here, God only knows how hard your trip was, and it's not even near ending, it's just the start, our start, so let me see this wide smile of yours ".

She smiles, from deep down her heart, because the feeling she had at that point of time, can never be described in mere human words.

As a Songs lover, She could only recall that one song, it's called "Cover Me In Sunshine". That song she loved and kept listening to morning and night. she always thought it fits the life she was living, the life she struggled to get through. And the verses started playing in her head, she could swear that someone played it in the room, because she could hear them so near. She looks around in a shy head movement, but it was just her mind encouraging her to move forward.

"Cover me in sunshine

Shower me with good times

Tell me that the world's been spinning since the beginning

And everything will be alright".

Those verses meant alot to her, and Blake knew it, he had prepared it, to be played once they entered, but she had no clue yet. There was also a surprise even more satisfying, waiting for her.

- Blake smiles, looks at her and adds: " Girl you look extremely sweet tonight, you are shining like a star sweetheart. By the way I have asked everyone to wear sunglasses, I can not afford people getting blinded by this beauty."

She looks back at him, instantly turns all red with a beautiful girly laugh of hers. Blake knows well how to get her into the mood, and she loves when he cracks those jokes, it breaks the tensions, just like it just broke her dark state of mind.

- She tries to hide the timidness by saying, "I am afraid i would fall with those high heels I am not used to them, you know"

- He quickly responds, " ah, that was my secret plan, u ruined it" and he draws a funny sad face that makes you think he is still in kindergarten.

- " I want to grab you when you fall and hold you between my arms until we get to our seats. You know your tiny beautiful feets of yours, are not supposed to touch the ground. Wish they have invented a safe jetpack to function as wings, but i know how you would respond to that "

They both answered " it wont fit my dress." and they both laughed so hard, they know each other better than anyone, that they think alike now. That's a strong factor she always looked for, when she thought about love, " our minds and souls have to meet before our bodies does ".

It seems like a happy ending, doesn't it? But how did they meet, a billionaire young gentleman and a struggling poor girl. Ah... My bad... poor is not the right word to use though, she was hardly just scraping by. Was it a hit of luck, or a prayer on one of those desperate nights. How did this struggle even begin?

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."
