Dance with a dead one Chapter 1 the dead one

Jacks point of view: Before 19 years

She was something pure. Somebody who gave me hope. Who gave me purpose. Who remembered me how to love.

I watched her for a long time. How she walked in the park with a baby in her arms. When she got tired she was putting baby in her baby carriage. She smiled at her with her sad eyes but beautiful green eyes. Long lashes without any makeup, She had natural beauty and make-up only would destroy it. Those sad eyes were looking all the time in one spot until she remembered that she isn't alone in the park and then from some trance, she came again to her world, the baby was her world. I wanted to know who made her so sad. Who had hurt her? But I knew that I must leave her, leave the pure beauty because I'm a predator the most disgusting thing in this world and she was an angel. And I won't destroy that.

How could a dead man like me go and look into her eyes? I knew that I'm a monster, some zombie, some evil. Who is cold, pale, and drinks life from others. I knew from the beginning that I didn't deserve her but the feeling to live for once was stronger than facts. I have only existed with the lust of women's bodies and warm blood. But when I was satisfied with all my needings the emptiness filled me with a black hole in my dead heart. And of course the rules. Those who protect me from mistakes, yes the rules, which I made to myself and for others. But those rules I had brake and consequences are hunting me until today.

The first was the most important, never show the human who you are, without hypnosis. This rule protects us the dead ones, from humans whose population is about 98 percent of the world. Second, never put your hands into humans' life. You can't save anybody if his or her destiny is to die. Third, drink from one person as many times as you can,(but to leave the victim alive is very hard, mostly we cant control until the body is warm) keep him as a pet with seduction powers but you must kill him in the end and destroy all evidence of a biting.

The human is only food. Our power. And our enemy. But what power made this human girl be more powerful than me. The power which she had on me confused me and scared me, but I was keeping my rules even if it was hard as hell for me, for now.

Yes, she was beautiful, like a sunflower to my eyes. She had long, blond, wavy hair. Long legs and round breasts which wanted to escape from her yellow little dress with some flowers on it. Her shoulders were naked, short sleeves were dropped from her shoulders. Her neck and breasts were the most fabulous of all women I saw. Quickly I felt poisons from my teeth which were watering my mouth. The smell that wonderful smell of her blood made my body tense and I almost purred like a cat from lust. I had to keep my distance a little bit more there were still many people at the park.

And still, I was glad that today was a sunny day because it would be hard not to hurt her. I dreamed a lot about bitting her neck and what effect to her would make my poisons. How she would moan to me. But I wanted to save this pure beauty from this supernatural drug. My poisons from teeth are having a strong effect like some drugs. Some of our pets are begging to the death until they feel the pleasure of our teeth. We are drugs, we kill slowly and not only take life but also every joy of life. Because there is no stronger drug than our poisons. And people quickly become our slaves until their bodies can't heal anymore and poisons slowly kill them with ecstasy.

I leaned against a tree about twenty meters away from her. The leaves made some shadow on me in one moment I looked at my ring with a red ruby, its a protection from the sun. I was spinning it around my finger and thought: What I am doing here? I should leave her. I shouldn't suffer myself from fantasy which I could never have. If she would know about my life. How I use people how I destroy them. She would be disgust with me. She would afraid of me and she should do that because our kind isn't tempered. Her life would be in danger all the time. One disagreement one annoyance and we kill everybody in our way. We don't think or feel we just kill. Those who are dead, can't feel, they haven't souls. And we can't help ourselves. Some tried. They tried to take back their lost souls. To remember what once they had been. I heard about some dead ones who tried not to drink human blood only animals but at some time they got mad and almost break rules. We had to destroy them as well as save our kind from those who try to survive. To keep a secret isn't easy. Especially now when people are more clever, they called this century a smart century. Phones, cameras, everything made our existence as well weak as ice on spring. And we afraid. We still afraid to die. There isn't enough time for us no matter how funny it sounds. We want to exist no matter what. But we can't grow our population this wouldn't make us stronger as some thought, we slowly would die without food until madness would completely rule our bodies. And we would turn into zombies without humanity's pieces.

She stopped and sat on the bench. She took the baby carriage near her knees and turned her baby face to face. Her hand took the bottle with some juice from a pocket and she gave it to drink to her baby. it was a hot summer's day and the baby drank it quickly. How old baby was? Half-year or maybe a year?

- "There you go, isn't that good Maggy." Lilly smiled at her daughter again with her sad eyes. Her voice sounded so soft like a whisper, a joyful whisper. I was confused about how many emotions this human had. But she never showed to others her sadness all the time only her beautiful smile and good mood but at nights she cried into her pillow all her buried tears.

It was hard for me not to go to her room and just hold her. But I hadn't permission so I couldn't do that anyway. Was she sad because of Maggie's father? Who was that man? Maybe it's good that I don't know who made her sad because he would be lunch for me and I am afraid that it would make her sad even more. And thinking that her heart is taken makes my brains burn with anger and jealousy. And when I'm angry I want to feed and take a woman or two. Does she still love him? For human love is important I don't remember how to love. My fingers turned into fists and slowly nails began to grow. I need to go away from her. Every day and night I say this to myself and still, I'm here watching her. my nails broke my skin and my blood drooped on the ground but quickly it healed. Just the last moment I want to watch how she moves, how she speaks. I watched her for three months and she never went on a date, never went to her parents, she even didn't have any friends. Who was that girl?

The sun has almost set. Soon there will be a danger to be here for her. Los Angeles is a place where vampires feed there more than in other places. And the night, the night keeps us in the shadows especially those ones who haven't good relationships with whiches.

Why doesn't she go home? My eyes landed from sunset to her and my eyes widened she was looking straight at me for the first time. How I missed that fact that she was looking at me and not I to her. Shit, this isn't good. I crossed my hand and took them comfortably on my chest, pretending that she doesn't affect me, I looked at her coldly. Mostly for humans were enough the cold and angry gaze and they avoided us but not her. She was still looking until I couldn't help and raise my eyebrow she just blushed and lowered her gaze. It was interesting her reaction was interesting. I couldn't help and smile. I shouldn't feel in that way I'm the dead one. Why do I feel joy? What she did to me...

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.
