Chapter 1 When The Storm Starts

His lips met hers as they exploring each other's mouth and his hands went inside of her oversized shirt, making her moan a bit, as his exploring her body, and gently guide her head resting the bed, as he hovers on the top of her, she blushed like a teenager when he met his passionate, fiery eyes pierced to his eyes at me, and flashes a smirk on his lips, as he leaned down as his kisses-

"Alisa!" I plugged out my earphone on my ears, somebody throws a pillow at me, and it was Kyla, my roommate, here in my friends' condo, she chuckled, I looked at her, giving her intimidate stare

"Hey! I was calling five times in a row, but you so focus on your book!" Kyla said in defense, she knows when I give that look- I'm irritated. 5 times? I am too busy with my erotica book? Sorry!

"Fine, I'll let that pass one! What is it?" I sighed and asked her

"I am going to the 7/11 downstairs, do you need anything?" She asked. That's it? I want to strangle her! I am on the 'exciting part', I fished out my wallet, and opened it, I bite my lips and hesitate my last money, I gave up, in the end, I handed her my last money.

"A coke, please!" I said, And Coke is your dinner right now, boo! I wanna put something on my brain, a random thought keeps popping randomly.

"Ah. Mismo?" she asked, Miss? Yes, I do... I do miss him.

"What? I heard that! Who's that?" She said, teasing me, I blushed Did she heard me?

I cleared my throat and smiles. "I said what is mismo?" I asked, she is Filipino, working here in America as assistant to some famous local artist here, and I'm learning some Filipino phrases like kamusta and banyo and this girl good at cooking, I commend her to that!

"Oh, sorry!" and gave a small laugh at me "Mismo is like a coke in a bottle, unlike here, in here-in a can." She said, grab her thick jacket, it is December right now, it's cold and freezing outside

"Tell me, if you need anything, okay?" As she rushed out of the door, What I am thinking? Are you dumb, Alisa Grey? You're missing that guy, that stupid guy? Okay, stop thinking about him! Quit it! As I closed my eyes, and I heard the door, shut close. As I can see his face, happy and kind, he held my eyes, and as his eyes change, looking fiesty and angry.

"Leave the outta here!" His voice rumbles, echoing on his house. I opened my eyes, I just shut my eyes, and he was my dream, I grabbed my towel and decided to finish my body, feeling so fresh, but, keeps thinking about my dream earlier.

It was 5 years ago. Time passes, our lives changed, for me - drastically, I went to my closet, cheap-looking, it has boring colors, that suit for old people, that's what the cheapest in the store, that's why I brought it, I scanned my clothes, looking so identical but the difference is the color, my life flopped hard.

I grabbed the mint green and caught my oversized to pair it, it is December right now, so I have to double or triple my jackets or turn on the heater. I went to my bed, put my phone aside, looking at the ceiling, I startled a bit when my phone starts to beep. I smiled when I see the name.

"Hey," I answered his call. "How are you?" I heard him chuckle.

"I am fine, I'm freezing right here in Sentosa!" He said in his British accent. God! I miss his voice! I wish go back here in the States, I really miss his guidance!

"You're Singapore?" I asked, surprisingly, put him on speaker, and starting to change my clothes. I put it on the speaker phone while I am changing.

"Yes, you want to visit in Denver!" he asked, "I can drop by," he added.

"Sure, I'll be waiting," I said, smiling.

"How are you?" He asked, "I can sense you in misery again, what's the problem?"

"Nothing! I should be sleeping right now! I have a job interview tomorrow!" I said, he sighed in relief

"Should I give some mo-" I cut him right off

"No! You don't need to, you know, I have to do this! Okay? Don't worry about me! Okay?" I reassured him

"Okay, if you say so, but if something happens! Call me! I'm one call away!" he said, making me secure.

Thank you isn't enough for him, he's been helping me all these years, my life been a wreck in five years, I forgot to introduce him, he is Harvey Samuel, he owns this condo, he's working as a model and currently based on Singapore.

"Oh-! Shit! Gotta go!" he curses, and immediately hangs up the phone, I checked my phone clock, it been ten minutes, I lay on my bed, staring at my ceiling, my tummy is growled. I am hungry. Where is she why she took to buy some foods for us? I went out of the room, I smelled unfamiliar smell, it was the combination of soy sauce and vinegar, I followed the scent and I saw Kyla in the kitchen, cooking something, as I noticed cute pink ribbon, too, as I watched her to cook.

"What is that?" The smell is kinda good, this is the first I've to smell this food! It has chicken and its color brown, too!

"Hey! That chicken is kinda cooked right now," I said, she shook her head

"Not yet," and pour some water and the soy sauce became the main soup

"What is it called?" I asked, I was always amazed by Kyla's cooking skill, she's gonna be a good wife to his future husband and kids.

"It's called adobo," she said and while stirring it the ingredients inside the pot, smelling so delicious! I am excited to taste it. I'm not a stranger to Filipino cuisine, Kyla is ALWAYS craving Filipino food, weekly she's cooking Filipino food here and I'm not complaining, it is really good! My favorite is: turon and ube halaya

She waits that to simmer and smiled at me

"Hungry?" Kyla asked

"Uhm, I thought you were gonna go the 7/11?" I asked, she hizzed at me and rolled her eyes went I mentioned 7-11

"That's fake 7-11, I am an Asian! I know the real one! For real! Don't come out to me!" She said, and I laughed, which is true, when I am watching Korean mukbanger and I saw their stores, it was good and inviting and convenient, and we got here, it's flopped.

"And I noticed you ordered coke again. You're broke again!" she laughed, and she back to her cooking and I sat at the dining table and waiting for the table in the table.

"Thank you, Kyla! You own me one again!" I said and looked at her, and give a thumbs up, to cheer me up.

"Dinner is ready!" she announced, she turned off the stove and get some gloves and get the pan in the dining and serve our adobo for tonight, I helped her by getting plates and spoon and fork, and give it to Kyla, and put a handful of rice in my plate

"Thanks!" I said, and dip on the soup of adobo in my spoon, It was good, a bit oily, but the combination of sweet and sour complement each other!

Kyla smiled at me. "Eat, there's plenty of adobos there," and I started to eat it and eventually we eat together that night.

The next day, 3 p.m

I opened the condo door, and lazily walked inside, and sat on the couch, and I'm still unemploy! I sighed in confusion, my head hurts because of the sun heat I encountered. I closed my eyes for a minute

"Hey!" I heard Kyla's soft voice and opened my eyes again

"Hey..." I greeted, with a weak smile.

"You look pale, are you okay?" Kyla worriedly asked

"I'm still fine," I wish okay! I lied and stared at me

"Do you want water?" I nodded, I feel so thirsty, I need to calm down! She gave a me glass of water, I mouthed thank you, she gave a nod in return.

"By the way? How's your applying? Did you get a job?" she said. "Do you me to refer to my-"

"Kyla, it's okay! Well, still unemployed! They always say we are gonna call you bullshit and stuff." I said in my tired tone

"That's adulting, my pal. Been there, done that!" she patted my head, I smiled

"I know! It's hard!" I whined, pouting, I grabbed my bag "I'll just go to my room, all right?" and walked to my room again, opened the door, I drop my bag on my desk, and flop to my bed.

In 23 years of existence in the world, when I stepped out in the "real world" I know job hunting will be the hardest, but I don't overthink that because I went to a very private school from kindergarten to college, my qualifications are over the top - or I thought so, I am relaxed when the first step out, but, here I am, broke but, still beautiful and that's important, kidding! Of course! You need money, and yes, money can buy happiness! Who says that money can't buy happiness, I will smack his/her face! My monologue about MY real-life experience is cut off with this call. I sighed and answers it.

"Hello?" I answered the call

"Hello, may I speak to Miss Alisa Grey? This is Tara, the Human Resources from TH Company!" she said, I quickly stand up, my hands are shaking again.

"Yes! Speaking!" I said

"Report tomorrow on the company, you're hired!" She said on the other line

"Really? This is not a prank call, right?" I re-assured

She laughed. "No! It's not, please wear something casual, okay? See you tomorrow!" she said, then she hanged up, and I smiled widely and ran outside and tell Kyla what happened

"Bitch! That's a call for a celebration! Let's go to the bar!" Kyla said, pursuing me

"But-" I am gonna say I am no money...yet!

"It's my treat! So, are you up tonight?" she said, I nodded.

"Let's rock that bar down!" I smiled.

Bye young and broke, Alisa Grey,

By 10 p.m that night, we put on our best dresses, Kyla wearing a black tight tube dress that exposed his legs and d pair of blue high heels and she ironed her hair, and I wear my outdated Gucci dress and pair with a Dior bag, and suede boots. Kyla goes first in the club, looking for a seat, my phone is vibrating, somebody is calling, I wished it is Harvey, I have good news to tell him. I checked it was an unknown number. Another company? Omg!

"Hello?" I said, aloud because the music inside is booming.

"Miss me?"

Shivers ran to my spine, familiar fear I thought I forgot is haunting me again, it was his voice, nothing else.

"Fuck you! Go to hell, jerk!" I hang up and I can feel my heart beating so loudly.

No... After all these years of suffering. No more please, I had enough...

My phone beeped again. I drop my jaw at his message.

I'm back.

Who is he?

He's the guy, who broke me, five years ago.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

Nicole had entered marriage with Walter, a man who never returned her feelings, bound to him through an arrangement made by their families rather than by choice. Even so, she had held onto the quiet belief that time might soften his heart and that one day he would learn to love her. However, that day never came. Instead, he treated her with constant contempt, tearing her down with cruel words and dismissing her as fat and manipulative whenever it suited him. After two years of a cold and distant marriage, Walter demanded a divorce, delivering his decision in the most degrading manner he could manage. Stripped of her dignity and exhausted by the humiliation, Nicole agreed to her friend Brenda's plan to make him see what he had lost. The idea was simple but daring. She would use another man to prove that the woman Walter had mocked and insulted could still be desired by someone else. All they had to do was hire a gigolo. Patrick had endured one romantic disappointment after another. Every woman he had been involved with had been drawn not to him, but to his wealth. As one of the heirs to a powerful and influential family, he had long accepted that this pattern was almost unavoidable. What Patrick wanted was far more difficult to find. He longed to fall in love with a woman who cared for him as a person, not for the name he carried or the fortune attached to it. One night, while he was at a bar, an attractive stranger approached him. Because of his appearance and composed demeanor, she mistook him for a gigolo. She made an unconventional proposal, one that immediately caught his interest and proved impossible for him to refuse.
